Hi Great! Very well explained. The Super 2 is an automatic version of the Spiromatic Classic. With this method they cut the length of the hairspring after it is mount on any balance wheel. The process is faster, but does not respect the caspari effect. (complete number of windings). With the Class-O-Matic-method (formerly known as Omegametric), all hairsprings are cut inside and outisde exactly at the same position. Afterwards they are classified and matched with the corresponding balance wheel. This method takes more time, but will give good results in all 5 positions (Top and COSC-Quality).

What an excellent couple of videos. I find this information and detail fascinating. I have got into automatic watches more over the past few years and learning more about them all the time. I bought a Hamilton just before Christmas, and I understand their H-40 movement is based on the ETA 2824. But my goodness, the watch is super accurate. I check it against UTC frequently and have found it to be less than +1 second a day during the week when I wear it. Thank you for these videos and I’ll be checking out your other posted videos.

Absolutely brilliant. I've been curious what the difference between grades actually means in practice. I found your explanations, observations and knowledge both informative and entertaining. And I'm already feeling increased pride in my "lowly" Sellita SW200-1. Many thanks!

These 2 videos were fantastic! The kind of information I was looking for. Question 🙋🏼‍♂️: Is it possible to source the necessary parts to change a standard movement into a Top movement?

In your video you state the the specifications for these movements are available to the public. Where exactly is that? I went to the ETA website and I can't seem to find a reference link.

Great stuff !!! Learning so much. I’m fairly new to watches and understanding the movements. On a very casual level, I am one of those that assumed eta and sellita were cheap garbage but after watching your videos I’m learning it’s not the situation. I canceled an order for a Steinhart Ocean One because on the spec sheet they say the watch comes with the eta2824 or a sw200. I don’t appreciate the unknown. I wish they can say specifically which movement it’ll be. I emailed them directly and they said there’s no way on knowing unless you open it or as you mentioned in this video, only the COSC have serial numbers. So I canceled but I may re-order after learning what you’ve taught. Thanks

Thank you for these awesome informative videos. But is this true of sellita as well? Does it use anachron hairspring and a different main spring and glucydur balance spring in the top grade? I cannot find any information on this in their spec sheet.

Thank you so much for making these very informative videos. I really appreciate it. I have a Sinn 556I that has a Sellita SW200-1. The way I understand it is Sinn uses the chronometer grade Sellita SW200-1 but they're not certified. Sinn used the top grade ETA 2824-2 prior in the 556 but no longer. I was told the Sellita SW200-1 chronometer grade is an upgrade over the ETA 2824-2 top grade. My 556 is running at an amazing +1-2 seconds a day but I can't help but wish the movement was the ETA. Do you consider the chronometer grade SW200-1 an upgrade over the top grade ETA 2824-2?

Hi! I Thank you, and thanks for your question! Actually, a Top and a Chronometer are exactly the same movements, the difference is only that they come from the factory (be it ETA or Sellita) with different adjustments (which will be most likelly regulated again by the brand that receives it), and the Chronometer must have a serial number engraved. Given that, both are capable of the same performance an I'm pretty sure Sinn makes a great job on regulating their movements, much more than the average of the industry. So even if they don't actually send the movement to be certificated by COSC, if it's a Top or a Chronometer, ETA or Sellita, it will reach you with the same standards of accuracy. Also, because of that, I don't think in this case the Chronometer would be an upgrade in terms of accuracy. It will only means that your movement have a serial number compared to a Top. The performance will certainlly be the same.

@@CHRONOTALK Thank you so much for the reply. I have been really happy with the Sellita in my 556I. It's still running at an amazing +1-2 seconds a day. Hopefully it keeps running like this. This is the first Swiss movement I've ever had and I'm really impressed. In learning about ETA and Sellita I found that some people prefer ETA, some prefer Sellita but most have no preference. I have to say at this point I have no preference.

@@sleepinglysithia It's a wonderfull watch, I'm a Sinn fan. And you can rest your mind about having an ETA or Sellita inside. I've been working with both movements for more than a decade now and there is really no tangible difference for the user, specially on the superior levels of grades.

Wow this is literally the answer I was looking for since I am currently undecided between 2 watches (it will be my first real watch and probably the only one for some time) which are Sinn 566i (same as yours) and Formex Essence 39 white dial. Of course they are different but they still share some similarities for example in price, case size, brushed steel perfect for everyday use, water resistant, same movement (Sellita SW200), etc. In my heart I really like more the Sinn watch but the only thing holding me back is that Formex's movement is COSC while Sinn is not. I was so confused on whether I should go for the Formex watch just for being COSC but thanks to the answer by CHRONO TALK I now understand that its basically the same thing. Did you buy your Sinn watch directly from the brand or via an authorized dealer?

I think the main 2 issues are always accuracy and anti-magnetism as they cause the problems the most.

I have a question for you sir, I have a choice between an Elaborate ETA 2836-2 or Top Sellita SW220-1 for the same price. The Sellita seems like the obvious choice but the shorter power reserve and the issue with the ratchet wheel in the SW200 series is making me very hesitant. I'd love your opinion on the matter 🤔
@CHRONOTALK
@CHRONOTALK 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Well, I usually advocate in favour that you choose the watch you like the most, no matter what caliber. But those problems of the SW200 were solved quite a few years ago, so if you are talking about a brand new watch, you shouldn't worry about the Sellita. But still, also keep in mind that in practice, the difference in performance between Elaboré and Top levels is pretty negligible, so also don't need to be "picky" about this matter.
