I could never hold off the independent side of science but even my high schooler does our family science!!! My older daughter just does extra science and I just tell her that she needs to do certain stuff in science if she’s wants the career she wants as I need her to be prepared!!! I’ve got time to prepare her!!! Nothing wrong with taking so long on a spelling curriculum!!! We love using apps for world languages!!! We love using gentle and classical morning virtues!!!

Oh that’s cool that you do both…family and independent science! I’ve heard quite a bit about Gentle and Classical, but have never tried them.

GATB creative writing is pretty good. Every page isn’t necessarily writing stories or even paragraphs. A lot of it focuses on mechanics, brainstorming, and improving vocabulary and sentence structure. We have it but haven’t started yet, but it seems like it would not be overwhelming to a child at all. In fact, my daughter wanted to start it as soon as she saw it. We have been working through Writing and Rhetoric for more structure in the typical “school” forms of writing(narratives, essays, etc.) My kids like it better than anything else we’ve done. You can very easily work at your own pace in whatever size chunk you select. (Side note: We are starting Spelling Wisdom with Using Language Well this next school year. My daughter is a context and sight/memory speller, so I’m hoping that will help.)

I’d forgotten all about TGTB creative writing! I checked it out after seeing your comment and even though I’ve got a resource already it does look like it could be a good option for him, definitely not too overwhelming! Spelling Wisdom is the only spelling program we’ve ever used so I can’t say for sure whether or not my son is naturally this way or it’s from doing the exercises, but if he sees a word once or twice in context, he can pretty much remember how to spell it from then on. I liked that it wasn’t just a list of words to memorize!

Hey, I discovered u by looking up brave writer… can u tell me how that went? I have a very imaginative little boy who expresses himself very well but hates writing 😕 & am trying to find something that’ll help! Ty 💕

I was glad to have used Brave Writer as it gave me ideas for how to use the things we come across in the books we read together as a way to sort of get our feet wet with verbalizing ideas and thoughts but I didn’t stick with it as I think we need a little more structure. What I’m doing for my son is using Writing With Ease to help build his confidence with getting his thoughts on paper and then using Usborne Creative and Story writing books to keep the fun in his writing. He’s very imaginative as well so my thought process is that Writing with Ease will provide the structure and Usborne will provide the freedom to be imaginative in his writing.
