I might be reading too much into this but did anyone else notice the three people in the "love triangle" are called Peter ,Paul,and Mary like the folk group?and by having Mary jane with another the writers have basically "robbed Peter to pay Paul?"like I said I might be reading too much into it but that's what I observed.I think the worst thing that they might actually do is have Peter get injured and Paul take over as spider man

This series achieved a rare thing where it got worse with nearly every issue that passed..I actually look forward to each issue just to be surprised that it can in fact get worse than it was the issue before.

There have been worse stories, but this has easily been the worst entire run. "Broad strokes" makes me laugh because it is correct. There is nothing tight or truly cohesive, no true character exploration. It's just ideas being tossed out like water balloons hitting a wall. Its all cynical as well. Until Wells, writers had the task of coming to this series, trying to right the wrongs that proliferated since 'One More Day,' perhaps navigate the piss-poor editor as well. Now they get all that and they have to fix Wells garbage too. Good luck.

All you have to do is tell me that Zeb Wells will be gone and I'll be happy! If you tell me he got hired by Dynamite or someone else who I don't care about, I'll be even happier. He can go ahead and ruin Vampirella. Nobody gets that for the story anyway. And I have no problem with John Romita Jr. His art is solid! At least Spidey will look good in his final defilement by Wells. Spidey was hurt less when Kindred was killing him page after page at the end of that last run.

Call me crazy, but I would like to see David Michelinie or JM DeMatteis back on Spider-Man. Michelinie's throwback Venom miniseries have been amazing fun and the two JMD Ben Reilly and Peter Parker miniseries last year were phenomenal. I don't understand why they won't put them on ongoing titles.

Nothing wil really change on ASM as long as Nick Lowe remains in charge. He should also leave the book.

IMO, ASM has been a needlessly convoluted title ever since the BRAND NEW DAY era, and it has steadily been going downhill. It became particularly chaotic and ridiculous during the runs of Nick Spencer and Zeb Wells. It boggles my brain how such a straightforward and simple character like Spider-Man can become almost incomprehensible. It's also crazy that despite how bizarre Spider-man's world has become, parts of it are still derivative and repetitive such as the constant gang wars, Goblin variants, clone wars, spider-verse antics, Green Goblin mood swings, etc. I am happy to see Zeb Wells' run end, but I'm not confident for who may pick up the baton next, if the past 10+ years are any indication.

Spencer was right about the orange clown and he also wrote a better Spider-Man run that Wells.

I have liked Josh Williamson's Energon Universe stuff. He knows GI Joe pretty well.

I don't think it's hyperbole to say that this is the worst ever run of ASM. Honestly, which run is worse? Wells' run is worse than Mackie, Byrne, Slott, O'Neil. It's worse than the Clone Saga. I honestly can't think of a time when Amazing Spider-Man has been this bad.

This run needs a hard retcon tbh. Honestly, if they somehow just manage to make the Spider-Girl comics canon to the main series, that would probably be their best possible outcome. Imagine the awkwardness of a 40yr old Pete walking in on Mayday kissing Miles and it would actually feel natural. If you want to fuck with Peter emotionally, that's how you do it. We like Miles as a younger Spidey being mentored, but good lord put some heat into it! There's gotta be some conflict and room for GROWTH 😭🙏

It's absolutely the worst run ever. The damage done to MJ alone would qualify it for that but the rest of the book is also terrible. Peter's stammering like a dweeb asking out Black Cat in between getting beaten to death by every villain he encounters. Flash treats Peter like they're in High School again instead of his character for the last fifty years, everything takes too long, plotlines are dropped, plotholes are never filled (how did Paul not know the kids were fake?), and contrivances are plenty (the Sins can magically take control of people now even though they could never do that before). But the worst of it is that he completely ruined MJ, taking away both her loyalty and any love she had for Peter Parker. Ultimately Dead Language is just "MJ falls in love with someone else and leaves Peter". All the BS with alternate dimensions and crap are just window dressing, that's the story. And that's not a story they should ever tell, cause it betrays the character and means Spidey is forever screwed, because he's in love with a woman that doesn't love him back. The entire franchise is way worse off for this run, and the entire thing should be erased.

I’m half expecting them to keep Paul around. I mean, it seems like that whole stunt was just a status quo change masquerading as a story and the idea was to give MJ her little corner over there with her new powers, boyfriend and all to separate her further from Peter.

For as much as Marvel seems to do things specifically to spite fans I fully expect this run to end with Peter becoming Green Goblin "permanently", Paul somehow gaining spider powers but deciding not to use them, Paul and Mary Jane getting married and the reboot is titled The Amazing Jackpot written by Vita Ayala.

I think Amazing Spider-Man needs a long break they to fix everything with the editors the characters.

Only one run comes close to the depths of this run: Denny O’neill’s run in the early 80s. O’neill apparently didn’t even want the book and the result was a mess that gave us just 1 thing: Peter’s worst love interest Debra Whitman. But Wells run will be hard to just wish away. The wreckage will take awhile to clean up. At least, the 80s had Roger Stern to clean up O’neill’s mess.

I'd love to see JrJr return to Daredevil, doing limited series or OGNs where get can just shine and be at his best. If Garth Ennis has any more Punisher in him, I think it's a missed opportunity to not pair him with Romita.

In a terrible shoehorn death of a Marvel character that nobody give a damn about just to try to make it seem like oh yeah Peter really cared about this character No he really didn't. The new #1 should have the classic corner logo, the webs in the title, and a return to Spider-Man as we know and love him. Just forget any other crap before and work off the canon of the book and character.

I started collecting this run about issue 13 and read through the dark web stuff and while not enjoying it I kept finding the back issues cheap so kept buying it up until that $10 issue #31 and I said nope no more. But then I kept finding issues for cheap and now I will wait and see. If they start at a new #1 I might just be done with comics again. It does feel like an abusive relationship

If nothing else Romita's art is solid. Love John Romita Jr's work, if he's illustrating a book of spider-man defecation jokes I'll still be able to appreciate his art atleast.

Here’s hoping the next writer puts some things back together, doesn’t destroy anything else, and actually listens to the real Spider-fans who have been waiting much too long.

Person who actually likes the zeb wells run here, the run does feel very meddled with for the sake of recreating the paul shock, like take peter's goblin stuff not actually being a result of the sins That shit was teased since issue #2 and a running idea throughout the run was that peter was in the verge of a psychotic break, but somewhere down the pipeline someone in editorial went "wait no this would totally damage peoples perception of peter, lets add a stupid hobgoblin retcon in to rake in the madvertisement and keep peter in his state of perpetual victimhood" rather than peter falling into tombstones ideology for the last two or three arcs before it either gets reset or carries to the next run Also jrjr needed a different colourist desperately, menyz's colouring does not suit a more exaggerated artist like him

I've not read every Spider-Man comic, but I've read a lot and this is most definitely the most forgettable run. A lot of mystical stuff that don't belong in a Spidey comic and the rest just mediocre at best, filler issue quality material. Lots of crossover tie ins as well which I sure as hell never followed, making for a lot of issues that dropped you in the middle of a different storyline and never get resolved inside the book. Just terrible.

Marvel is in such a sad state it’s hard to even care this is coming to an end. I mean, the next thing could likely be just as stupid... or worse. Sure it could be better, but does anyone think the next thing will be good?

What Spiderman fans don’t expect or don’t want? I’ve given up on Spiderman after OMD. I checked in on Slott’s run to see if there’s any change but it was actually worse. I had hope with Spenser but in the end the ball was dropped. Well’s run might not have been the worse but it just doubled down on keeping Peter and MJ apart. So I have NO hope of Spiderman getting any better. Not unless there’s an editorial change at Marvel and you get an actual good writer to fix this. (And they probably can’t fix it because they’ve smashed everything into itty bitty pieces!)

I gave up on Spidey when Marvel insisted on putting Mary Jane on every third cover and making her such an important character. She ruined the book thirty years ago. The reset was supposed to get rid of her, but they insisted on bringing her back. And while l have always appreciated JR jr 's work, he has done little more than hack work for the past decade. No energy or vitality to his work. Just get it done. It makes me feel bad to see it.

John Romita Jr. is a horrible artist for Spider-Man; his art is too "blocky" and doesn't convey the sleekness and agility of Spider-Man.
