Hey Nick, exercise physiology PhD student here. You mentioned that you always fuel before training and never train fasted anymore (which has its benefits, for sure), but training fasted helps to improve your bodies ability to utilize fats for fuel rather than carbs, meaning that you maintain your glycogen stores for use longer into your long runs. So i would say that you should definitely not write off training fasted. Using the words ‘always’ and ‘never’ when refering to training is risky as every method has its place. So my advice would be to play around with both methods rather than just sticking to 1 method

Nick I would like to see you talk about fueling vs being fasted for loss weight. I like doing my training on an empty stomach and eat my first meal in the afternoon.

I am curious on this as well. How do we determine how much fuel we need is what I’m most curious about. I would imagine someone doing an easy 2-3 mile run probably doesn’t need anymore than a scoop of G1M

@@Lukeleonard10 I agree. But how do you figure out where you deficit is the days you run? My watch says I burn 500 cals on a 45 min run so I need to add an additional 500 cals in carbs the days I run?

I agree it’s all about calories in/calories out. For me being fasted til mid afternoon helps me eat less for the rest of the day.

Great information Nick! Could you please go over how much fuel is needed for the amount of training an individual is doing? I’m running 2-4 miles at a time (30-45min) and I assume I don’t need 2 scoops of G1M for that (maybe just 1 scoop or not even any?)? Especially trying to do a body recomp while hybrid.

Obviously not Nick but I run 3-5 miles most days and 6-10 on Saturday and Saturdays are the only day I’ve felt I need and additional nutrition during running and also when I do races ranging from 13-20ish mile trail races.

@@playswithfire84 maybe I’m over thinking the fueling for the mileage I’m running at 20 miles a week

@@MrJohnno89at this point im a lean 195lbs and I run 10-12mi regularly. Good muscular build & athlete. I am worried about weight gain (in-turn slowing my runs down) and the potential dehydration aspect (and the stemming problems from that) of creatine. I'm wondering what other hybrid athletes are doing here. Any insight?

Yeah that would be an interesting topic. Creatine is mainly used as a short-term fuel source, but I wonder how it is used in endurance activities. You should be taking it anyways but still wonder
