Жыл бұрын

We're back again with a breaking review on an optic that is just hitting the market this week! Hans and Jason have been field testing the all new AGM Adder thermal rifle scopes for several weeks and on this week's show they review both the Adder TS35-384 3x $2,495 and the TS50-384 4x $2,995. The Adder model is the first thermal scope from AGM in the 30mm tube style design and they offer not only a great value, they bring the longest internal battery life we've seen so far in this style of scope with well over 15+ hours of run time and the highest base magnifications of any scopes in this price category. Pull up a chair and watch as Hans and Jason give their full take on this exciting new scope line.

*** Why Hunt Hogs? ***
Our journey into wild/feral hog hunting started like many others living in rural communities. We didn't start hog hunting for fun or sport... we did it because we had to. You see, hogs cause millions of dollars of damage and destruction each year in rural communities and our situation was no different. Hogs were destroying our land and that our of friends and family. The vast majority of hunting stories that you hear about on this channel are hogs, boars and sows, taken from family land... this problem is personal for us...
__________________________________________________
*** Why Hunt Coyotes and Predators? ***
Coyotes and Predators, similar to hogs, cause financial stress for many families in rural communities. Coyotes kill livestock, plain and simple. Ranchers have battled coyotes killing cattle since the early days of ranching and it costs them dearly. Cattle ranching is a business, the cows aren't pets, every time they lose a calf to a coyote those families lose a paycheck. Cattle ranchers hate coyotes just as much as Farmers hate hogs! We hunt coyotes to protect the livelihood of our friends and neighbors that depend on their cattle business to feed their family...

After using my scope when it was dry out I could not believe how much crisper the image is. Absolutely unbelievable how much moisture effects these things. It was like suddenly somebody took my scope off and slapped a new $10k Adder on. I do recall Jason and Hans did mention this but its not just an insignificant difference. I could not believe what I was seeing. And this is because the field i put my bait pile in is more often than not generally wet unless its super cold out (here in N.E. Ohio) and everything is frozen. But on nice dry days I can not believe the difference. This was a huge eye opener for me. Then it hit me that you guys are from Texas which is obviously where your videos are from and why I wasn't seeing quite the clarity and definition you guys are showing. So if I wasn't quite so happy with my Adder before I absolutely am now. You still have the non self centering of the reticle on base mag but I hope AGM fixes that part with a firmware update in the near future. I can honestly now say I would probably buy this TS50-384 again.

Thanks for the review Frank. That’s a great write up. The only place where there might be some confusion is the fact we are in Deep East Texas….think Louisiana and the rest of the of the South. We have crazy high humidity all the time. This morning was a nice cool spring morning, low in the 50’s and it was 90% humidity. We keep 70-99% humidity year round. Water drips off our gutters at night all summer..lol When we get humidify below 60-70% we throw a party and eat supper outside.haha! Now if you go out to North, West, deep Central or parts of South Texas you’ll get dryer air but all of East Texas is super humid and wet, from the Gulf all the way up to Arkansas. We also get about 50+ inches of rain a year which is why it’s like living in a rain forest.😂😂 But seriously, great write up and we agree, when you hit that dry air it’s amazing the difference in the in the image quality. Nothing better than a cold dry night for thermal hunting!

Man I see the industry going to this type of scope more and more ….. I guess it’s great for most but definitely going to leave us left handed folks fumbling around in the dark. The best part about most thermals are the manufacturers put all the controls on top. Hope the traditional housings are still around in the next 5-10 year’s
@TheLateNightVisionShow
@TheLateNightVisionShow Жыл бұрын
No question that some scopes are better for lefties than others. Some tube based optics like the iRay Bolt have the controls on top so they work fine for left handed shooters. I don’t think we’ll ever see a day that all traditional “block” style thermals will go away. AGM offers 4 of those style units with top controls from $1,995 to $3,995.

Jason you were 100% right about the sensitivity of that control knob. That center touch pad should never be out flush with the outer edge. This cost me a 2nd dog last night because when it came in i missed 3 times on it before i realized i touched it and it changed reticles on me therefore was still on x=0 y=0. Thats a bad design. That center pad should be recessed enough to have some clearance. Very disapointed so far with this. And on high humidity nights its fuzzy as heck. I didnt expect that one either.
@TheLateNightVisionShow
@TheLateNightVisionShow Жыл бұрын
Frank, the fix for this is to change the x and y coordinates on each reticle to the exact same. This is just in case you accidentally change the reticle.
@frankschneider5566

Yep. But the real issue is that knob and i will fix it without any damage to it. Should not be able to change that setting so easy without consciously doing it. But i will still set the x y's. Got my first dog with it. Shoulda been a 2 dog night but we'll get there.

I think if put by side by side, the Adder TS50 would have a better image quality than the PTS 536. The fact that the 536 hit the market over 4 years ago and was only a 320x240 sensor, just puts it behind the current thermal technology. It was a great scope at the time but I believe the Adder TS50 will be an upgrade in more ways than one. Thanks for watching

When the built-in battery goes bad what does it cost to have them replaced is the question after the warranties run out
@TheLateNightVisionShow
@TheLateNightVisionShow Жыл бұрын
There is no know battery life for how long they will last but this style of scope has been around for 4 years now we’ve seen no more than a handful of units with a bad battery and none of them were from over use, just the battery being defective early on and it was replaced by the manufacturer under warranty. AGM (along with the other manufacturers if this style of optic) all say they will offer a battery replacement service at a reasonable cost for scopes out of warranty. AGM will be better able to answer any direct questions of cost etc but we don’t expect it to be expensive. If this type of battery is too much of a concern AGM has both the Rattler and the Varmint scopes with fully removable batteries.

What’s the difference between this and a more traditional unit like the rattler?
@TheLateNightVisionShow
@TheLateNightVisionShow Жыл бұрын
The Adder has a little better image quality being a 12 micron sensor vs the 17 micron in the Rattler, the Adder has a VERY long internal battery life, it performs much better on a bolt action rifle and it has a much higher base magnification. There are other differences but that’s the basics. The Rattlers are still the right choice for many people but the Adders bring a lot of improvements for people needing a higher base magnification for their hunting style.
@kyledickerson80
@kyledickerson80 Жыл бұрын
@@TheLateNightVisionShow It has a smaller sensor with a higher pixel density. This doesn’t necessarily mean better image quality. It only means higher magnification if the objectives remain the same. In fact, the lower density one will have greater sensitivity as it can capture more photons and the higher density one will have greater noise because it has to amplify the signal due to it capturing less photons.

Put side by side in the field, the Adder TS35-384 and TS50-384 have a noticeably better image quality, crisper and clearer and a further ID range than the Rattler TS25-384 and TS35-384.

Well Jason called me back which is amazing due to his shot show schedule. I appreciate him & his Team a great deal. They are there for their customers. Jason says these thermals do not center the reticle up on the screen so it looks like i need to modify a low picatinny riser to adjust his scope over to get a more reasonable X number. Under 75 would be acceptable and not show off center so much. No biggie.
