It was like you were chasing wildfires as each system went down - your grit and determination were very impressive and I am sure the tough times make the good times even sweeter. If it makes you feel any better I know people that have spent that much on an RV motor home and still spent tons of money on maintenance and upgrades. Wonderfully articulate and honest talk, of which i would think could be very helpful to anyone with a similar notion, and of a somewhat green level of the boat and 'marina experience'. To expedite, you have to hire so much out, of which, time is money, and at an off shore manana, which reminded me of the Keys 40 years ago, and similarities to any Fl marina even today. I once had a much briefer, and less costly marina experience, but the similarities seem so universal, don't feel so alone in that experience...lol. But you persevered, are getting it right, and still maintain a great attitude, enough to share your experiences, the good and not so good...keeping it real. Very great testing grounds, where you spent your first year, sounded like you had such a good time, the adventures you were looking for, so fair winds, and best wishes on your incredible journey.

I found you two because I have been looking at this same boat for sale and did a search and found your account. This is all great information to see what this boat and the year it is might have to offer and what I could be in for as far as upgrades and repairs and maintenance. I will definitely be following you both as you are on your journey. The boat looks amazing.

I can say, for sure, that your adventures have been awesome and that your families have had epic vacations and your best friend, she had a vacation for the books! As a boat owner of many boats I can say that ownership is a bad investment, and I’m laughing as I say this because I have seen things, done things, worked my butt off, injured myself but I always say “I work because I really like boating!” It’s a lifestyle that I’m glad you’ve got to experience. It’s really too bad that there are so many nefarious trades people, and as soon as the word “marine” is printed or said the price doubles! You were novices at the time and we’ve all been there, your channel is different, it’s raw, funny, entertaining and full of twists and turns and then there’s the the adorable dogs! Congratulations though, you’ve really come a long way you two!

Watching all the issues you had, it was a nightmare and clearly a few to go. You made me laugh a lot and cry once or twice. You have entertained me and many others as well, what value do you place on that? Blue Pearl is beautiful and you have video proof of all that you have done. If you sell you will easily get your money back and then some. The layout of the Blue Pearl is well above average. I am not a boat person I just like watching them and in all my watching I have not seen another like yours. I see it as a perfect investment. The experiences you have had are priceless, compared to the cost to date, you are well ahead by my measure. Whatever that is worth? Yes the previous owner was what he is and that is his to bear. You also saved a beautiful boat from death, that is worth something as well. I watch only a couple others. I have tried watching many others but few appeal to me. You have something I think few have, so I keep watching. What is that thing you have that others do not? I can not say for certain, I just know you have it. It has something to do with not being fake, no pretense. I hope you are here for years to come, cheers!

The boat looks nice. That was a crazy amount of growth you picked up in a few months. I can keep my boat in the water for a season and not even come close. In colder water I've had a boat in the water for 2 years with very little growth. I've always been told to keep the tanks full or risk condensation. The old joke of sailing = working on your boat in exotic locations is largely true. Constant vigilance will let you catch many things before they get out of hand and become expensive. I'm totally jealous of the dive compressor.

Hi guys just a word of unsolicited advice. If you're going to store her up in Penasco take every measure to protect her from the intense summer sun. My boat is in a marina in La Paz and I tend to her virtually every day. Without sun protection things degrade fast down here. Many boats in the marina will require a small fortune to bring them back to an acceptable level. Fair winds

Enjoyed this video, I watched one of your earlier episodes but just now got back to check out your costs. I’m in a similar situation with the same boat as yours. Bought in 18 after Irma spent a couple years fixing in the winters. Covid left me unable to continue until last November. Spent 7 months with help from friends and made it from bvi to st kitts where it is now on the hard. Plan to return after new years to sail to Cartagena where labor is cheap.

Been here since right after Splashing, so glad you guys made it to 1 yr. Keep going so much out there to see!!!!

I'm proud of you guys that you stuck it out when a lot of other folks would have called it quits. You will end up with a nice boat and it will end up being less of an investment than a similar sized newer boat.

Love the golf Analogy. Yes, a good day or an exciting moment makes the lows melt away. 12 knots of wind on a beam reach with a calm Sea state makes the world a beautiful place. Throw in a pod of Dolphins swimming and playing on the bow now makes it magical. Anchoring and watching the Sun set you soon realize how blessed you are to be in that place at that moment. I would recommend to all that follow your beautiful videos to get the best marine surveyor they can find before purchasing any boat. They are expensive and they still miss a few things but in totality they can give you an honest value of the boat and help estimate what it might cost to bring her back to an acceptable level that you can feel comfortable and safe with. My first boat I bought without a survey and I learned a lot about this subject. If your going to insure your boat or put her in a slip, your going to need a survey anyway at some point. My second boat, I did get and extensive survey and we found a few things I would have never thought to look for and we still missed a few things that just pop up and need normal maintenance or replacement. All of that aside “Once the Ocean touches your soul, life on land is never the same” Fair winds and thank you for your inspirational videos that allow us too laugh and cry along with you. Agree with most of the posters. Don't give up now! You've been through the worst and learned the most lessons, from a financial standpoint at least.. You aren't the first couple (and surely won't be the last) to completely underestimate how much money and/or sweat equity it takes to own/maintain a boat. But the good days do far outnumber the bad on balance. While the joke about B.O.A.T. standing for "break out another thousand" is most certainly true, I don't believe in the other common adage of "Two best days in a boatowners life". We are on embarking on ownership of our 3rd boat, and each time I sold the previous ones, it was tough but I always looked forward to owning another one. The other piece of advice I would give to prospective inexperienced boatowners now that there are vlogs galore is to make the boat or ownership thereof fit your lifestyle, don't force your lifestyle to fit the ownership of the boat. I think you will be much happier in the end. And yes, I've never had a survey that didn't pay for itself.

Oh yeah, I forgot to say South Dakota? I don’t think I’ve ever seen a boat on the ocean from South Dakota, a rarity for sure!

I really hope that you keep her and go and see other places. You had to deal with some (mostly)average trades people, which I know is incredibly frustrating, but the bulk of the work is done now. The mistake that you made was not getting a professional survey. That would have shown up a lot of the costly repairs and replacements needed and you could have used that to justify a $50,000 drop in your eventual sale price. That Irwin was never a $200,000 boat in that condition, with that sheer amount of delayed/ignored maintenance.

How many knots of wind it take to archive say 5 - 10 knots? Do you have any reservations about picking a 56 footer? We are looking doing the same if we can find one worth it. 😊

The first half of the video I truly believe it was a comedy or a joke. But no, it was normal sailing, LOL. I have owned an Irwin 54 for 32 years and O am going to La Paz to have work done. I know it sounds like you spent too much but in Florida, you would have paid $300k. Send those guys in La Paz a Christmas card and a bag of toys.

$75,000 for a 65 ft sailboat with all the bells and whistles it has! granted its 39 yrs old but a comparable new 65 ft monohull sailboat with the options you have is well over one million, Right now a 64 ft Jeanneau 2018 monohull at Marina Del Rey, CA with everything working and would pass a survey is $1.6 million and it's 5 yr. old with no dive compressor. All boats need work and if you don't do the work yourselves it's expensive but you have the cheapest deal I've heard of to date for what you have. Just think of the boat she could be if you put another $75,000 into her, Lol🤣

To remain totally debt free. It was such a large sailing Vessel, you must have a lot of skills to do everything yourself. Or otherwise you will have to hire people and they do just like lawyers and car mechanics. Take you to the cleaners okay
