If portrait editing is something you do regularly you might want to check out Skylum's newly announced portrait editing software. It's aimed at professionals though so it's not going to be right for everyone. You can find out more here: bit.ly/ApertyPortrait Please note they've only got a limited number of pre-release licences available. I also did a video about it here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ncuEbJqGnMCppIk.html

Tony, this was a very useful tutorial for me. I'm most comfortable in bnw, but a lot of times I feel my pics are just a mix of different levels of grays. I like how your technique produces true blacks and true whites in a quick and easy way. Thank you also for the guidance on sticking with one technique in my portfolio. That is really going to bring AA professional look to my portfolio.

On a slightly different subject , Luminar neo automatically colour grades my raw drone footage even though it notices its a DJI drone and the camera settings I used. I also have the Adobe converter installed as mentioned in one of your previous videos. Keep up the good work I've learnt a lot from your vids.

Lol, that is one heckuva way to skin a cat. Brilliant and such an easy process, Anthony! Without needing to mess with masks or anything. But now you got me thinking about the consistent look thing--I hope my varied styles in my Instagram feed don't make me look amateurish!

Hi Carl, pop your insta details in here and I'll add you and go take a look :) I'm @anthony_turnham_photography Regardless of my "advice" of consistency with a look, I think it's more important to first explore different styles to help find your creative voice and the look that resonates with your work.

Interesting idea to introduce a little bit of color into a B&W. I've been using the camera preset for black and white and tweaking it with the curves adjustment, etc. This was very helpful so thanks as always!

Thank you Anthony, an interesting approach, I will give it a try. I usually played around with the saturation sliders of the B&W tool after the color grading with a LUT. Gave me more control over individual color saturation and letting me take out certain colours completely while retaining others. I can also recommend the High Key tool after the B&W conversion, nice effects there. Great video!

Hi Anthony. Nice to see Lando again. 😻 It looks like he has returned home again, I missed him. 😿 When did he return? 😺On to your video, it's a great idea to tone your B&W pictures with LUT tones! 😺 You know after having Luminar NEO for years, it never occurred to me to use LUTs when converting colour images to monochrome - thank for the tip Anthony. 😺 Regards from, Felix the Cat. 😺

Hiya. Oh, I'd love to say that Lando had returned but unfortunately, he met his demise at the hands of a cruel and evil man who trapped and killed him. The smart wee dude in this video is Dobby (not named by me 😆). He's one of two rescue cats we adopted.

I haven't been using Neo for B&W as I thought it only had a few presets. This really opens up the door for me. Do you have a link for another video that shows how to use a local color mask? (Example leave color as is , but just change a car's color?) Thanks, Anthony.

There's no 'virtual copy' option, but the easiest way is to choose show photo in Explorer and then copy paste the photo. Neo will refresh automatically with the new unedited photo added.

Anthony As ever interesting but don't you get the same effect by using the Black and White tool and varying the luminosity and saturation? Are there any pros and cons to either route. Hugh
@AnthonyTurnham
@AnthonyTurnham Ай бұрын
No infact it's quite different. The B&W tool will help you get a better conversion than just desaturating but you'll still have a lot of work to make your B&W sing. This'll give you a better result much quicker. (But don't discard the other B&W tools as they still have a valuable place in a more refined b&w workflow)

Hey anthony, really enjoy all of the valuable info you provide when it comes to editing. I recently jumped from LR to Luminar and im in love with how simple i can get some great results. Although there seems to be something that luminar is lacking that to me is essential from LR, I cant seem to be able to edit with a reference photo like in LR. Am i not looking for the setting in the right place? Know if editing with a reference photo available in Luminar? Thankyou in advance
@AnthonyTurnham
@AnthonyTurnham 7 күн бұрын
Yeah, it's a lot more fun and intuitive to use eh. In terms of a reference photo, there's no feature as such. I'd just load it as a top layer and show or hide it as necessary. Or scale it down as a thumbnail in the corner as reference. Not ideal, but it'd work.

Hi Anthony. Love the concept. made the preset but when I go to catalogue and right click the photo I wanted to end the group of photos which highlighted 6 photos i wanted use the effect on , but when I right clicked on adjustments it wouldn't open the sync adjustments tab as its greyed out. any suggestions?
@AnthonyTurnham
@AnthonyTurnham 27 күн бұрын
You need to apply the preset to at least one image as the first step. Then once that photo has the process applied you should then be able to sync that effect across any other photos.

How is a LUT different to a Preset in this instance?
@AnthonyTurnham
@AnthonyTurnham Ай бұрын
Look Up Tables perform a remapping of colour and tonal information in the underlying photo. A preset can include any number of tools that manipulate the photo in a variety of ways. A preset can contain a LUT within it along with other tools. A LUT is great fro colour grading but lets say you wanted to add a soft glow, then it can't do that. That's where a preset that contains the glow tool, for example, would step in.
