We had planned to do a data deep dive on the recent PSL, but instead we have to content with all the elite level clownery going on at the PCB.
Turns out, the board changed captains and released a #wholesome press release which had never been shared with the players instead.
So now, we've got one recently sacked captain back, one highly fucked over player sacked without being told why, two of the most recent successful PSL captains not even considered, and two known haters of the current captain back in the team.
Of course, the big question is, which of these can run 2 kilometres with faujis?
00:00 Discussion on the latest farce
04:11 Lack of communication and mismanagement in the PCB
08:04 Mohsin Naqvi's role as chairman
12:16 Treatment of players in Pakistan cricket
25:30 The captaincy debate and overlooked captains in the PSL
30:40 The legacy of Sheharyar Khan
47:21 Same old genuine concern for the future of Pakistani cricket

the photocopier analogy hits me at such a primal level, its the type of thing that just makes you want to check out as a fan, it sort of parallel's the coverage of the training camp on pcb's youtube channel where the players are pissing themselves during their training and the reporter goes up to them and ask's them if they are being treated well and he goes up to rauf and asks about his experience and he replies as if he was living under mao's china and was asked a trick question design to detect whether he was comrade or not

I didn't think it was possible but I've slowly been falling out of love with Pak cricket for a while now. The era of the four clowns (Ramiz, Zaka, Sethi and now Naqvi) is helping speed up my complete apathy. I really don't know how you two have the patience to follow/cover this sh*tshow. Resonates with most of us 90s kids especially. We've seen horrible times in our cricket but it seems to be on a slippery slope with no hopes of recovery. What's most depressing is, as much as I absolutely abhor what's happening, I'll still tune in to watch these nincompoops get their backsides handed to them. Fazool ka nasha hai, fazool ka.

On Ramiz Raja, I don't know what's the beef b/w him and Ahmer but apart from pitch fiasco (I agree with neutralizing opposition pace attack as we had ours injured, though it was badly executed) , there's not a whole lot he did wrong. We might have our women's league by now courtesy RR but good things aren't supposed to happen for us. I guess, that's why Osman cut him some slack because he was not as good as Mani/Wasim combo but also not bad as the ones that came after him. He got the reparation from the boards that abandoned us. His tenure didn't affect the team. PCB medical panel has notoriously been infamous for botching up players rehabilitation so that's not new.

ruining a whole home test season, upending rather than editing an entire domestic structure to go back to a broken model, launching a financially disastrous new league while picking a fight with the existing lucrative league, claiming an untold financial incentive for a win over India which was never offered... baqi sab choro, completely nuking the domestic system and launching an ill-thought, terribly structured league when the main cash cow was having internal disputes is top-tier stupidity. for all of Zaka's brain farts, he also wasn't creating structural changes that threatened the stability of the board.

@@BattaFast how did he ruin home test season (you want PCT to compete with top tier test nations with depleted resources, be my guest)? what broken are we talking about (24 teams domestic structure is dilutes the quality and nobody cheers for Ghani Glass, or PTV)? launching a new league isn't disastrous in the long run (you can have multiple leagues in the country, nothing new), safeguarding PCB's interests isn't picking a fight, that's literally the job, untold financial incentive was stupid, I will give you that. how did he nuke domestic system(can't wrap my head around this one)? there are always disputes in leagues as everybody wants their piece of the pie to be bigger(this is why negotiations happen). Employing families and friends is the worst one can do for a corporate which brings about structural changes that creates instability in the board, which is what we are seeing right now.
@BattaFast
@BattaFast 3 ай бұрын
He had all pitches changed despite opposition from players. Pak cricket had a great record at home so that was definitely not needed. You want to fight bog three then at least listen to your players. Secondly how do you do competing leagues in the same sport by the same board? If the PJL was to work it could be as teams of existing franchises. Trying and failing to make new ones was a disaster. And the PSL is the main revenue earner for the board, so pissing off all the franchises paying you is far from safeguarding the boards interests. Just because the board has had terrible chairmen since doesn’t magically make Rambo better or free of sin.
@SMA265
@SMA265 3 ай бұрын
@@BattaFast "Listen to your players," you say. By all means, let's have Babar Azam and company draft memos in between perfecting cover drives and toe-crushing yorkers. Next, we'll have the groundsmen advising on foreign policy and the tea lady on sports science. No, my friend, fighting the Big Three isn't the job of the players, who are busy ensuring the cricket ball is the only thing getting smashed around the park. Oh, diving into the cricket economy, are we? Let’s spin this like a Yasir Shah leg-break on a fifth-day pitch. Competing leagues in the same sport? Why, it’s like having biryani and pulao on the same menu - variety is the spice of life, my friend! The notion that the one can’t have two leagues is like saying Shahid Afridi can't decide between batting and bowling - preposterous! And as for the PJL, calling its inception a disaster is like dismissing a rookie player for getting out on a duck in his debut match. Every great innings starts with a single run, and innovation isn’t without its trial and error. Remember, even the greats like Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis had to start somewhere, and not every ball they bowled was a yorker. The PSL franchises aren't so much handing over their lunch money to the PCB; they're investing in a lottery ticket where the jackpot is cricketing fervor and brand visibility. The PCB, like a master chef in a bustling kitchen, is simply providing the ingredients, the recipe, and even the stove. The franchises? They're cooking up the feast, but let's not forget who owns the restaurant. Lastly, about our beloved 'Rambo' - critiquing chairmen is a national sport in itself, isn’t it? So, here’s to the PCB, managing more leagues than a single WhatsApp group chat where Osman is the only adult, and doing so with the grace of a reverse sweep under pressure.
@BattaFast
@BattaFast 3 ай бұрын
man I appreciate your condescension, but please stick to things you know about. Calling the PJL a rookie is ignoring the fact that it would cannibalise PSL revenues, and that it never found franchise owners. Afridi batting or bowling is a function of the sport, as is Wasim and Waqar bowling together. Having two cricket leagues with different owners and broadcast deals and sponsors is splitting the pie, its a zero sum game. Describing them as two dishes on the same menu is a clear misunderstanding of what the economics of the leagues are. secondly, players play on pitches and are consulted on how they want them to play. pata nahi kahan se apni Dr Nauman English laa rahay hain yeh dikhanay ke liye ke aap ko baraa pata hai, but this is standard p[ractice in the sport. Home captains have great say in types of pitches, as do coaches. Chairmen aren't supposed to weigh in on this, this is basic shit. i guess rambo aap ke rishtaydaar hain yaa aap ke paas bahut time. hai ke bina kisi samjh ke aglo ke saath muu maari ker rahay hain.

Usman khans situation is the same as a player having to choose between playing football for france or his origin country. On one hand is the allure of playing the WC for france and even winning it but the competition is high and theres a risk he might never get to play for france. And on the other hand is the possibility of playing, even becoming a captain or a legend for lets say ghana and maybe playing a couple WCs but surely never winning it. The common thing in both these choices is that the same player will go on to have a full league career regardless. Same goes for Usman khan. The only thing he is definitely going to miss out on is the ipl but again theres no guarantee he'll ever get selected in the first place. He can still play all the leagues in the world, make a ton of money and also play international cricket including the main events and who knows maybe even win one.
@BattaFast
@BattaFast 3 ай бұрын
i love the analogy, but it isn't quite the same at all. league careers in football and cricket are vastly different, with cricket leagues offering much shorter duration and thus money. secondly, footballers have a WC every four years to think of, but its more of an either/or situation in cricket with international vs league play. leagues in this sense offer more security to fringe players who won't be likely to win central contracts or have one for too long. thirdly, as shown in multiple standoffs with the board in recent years, the PCB is happy to be completely adhoc and petty in giving out NOCs, trying to make players look bad for choosing even leagues they have NOCs for. literally no pakistani player is free to be available for the national side AND play lots of leagues, because central contracts limit that.

1) making players join a camp at the end of 9 months of absolutely gruelling travel, domestic and international schedules, in the middle of Ramzan, is the joke. have enough access to data from teams/analysts to confirm that most of these players can easily do such runs, but probably were wary of it during rozas and wanted to avoid injuries, which happen from over-exertion. 2) maybe the problem is that cricketers don't *need* to be athletes as you define them. azam khan is a guy who can smash most international attacks for six, which is what franchises in multiple leagues pay him to do. what exactly does running 2km add to this repertoire? if you start grading sharks for their ability to fly, then you will conclude that they aren't very impressive also.
