On this episode of Gritty Bowmen I sit down with Bill Vanderheyden of Iron Will Outfitters. Bill is a mechanical engineer by trade. When he finally got the opportunity to shoot a nice bull the broadhead he was using failed him. It just didn’t penetrate but a few inches. He resolved to make a better broadhead.

The thing I like most about these are the 100g option. I shoot Maasai 200's right now and for my compound I wish I had a 100g option. I will be ordering some to give it a try. Price difference between these and the ones I am shooting is minimal. Good broadheads are costly. If the work as advertised it will be worth the cost

G’day Brian I love the show even though I get it hours later here in Australia! Mate Iv been a bow hunting for more than 40 years and the change in technology in broad heads has only been the types of steel! In the 90s a company here in Australia called outback broad heads had a 125g broad heads identical to the one you just had on your show ! I used it exclusively on deer huge hogs and buffalo in north Australia! And yes what what was said about them having to be sharp dead right! The ways we use to find out how sharp we had our cutting-edge was to stretch several elastic bands over a piece of pipe and if the edge cut through without much forcing well they were able to cut tissue! I’m a blacksmith by trade ! And I’ll agree with what was said about hardness and edge retention is critical , I use to temper all new broad heads to around 59/60 rc for best results for edge sharpness ! Mate I still use the heads I bought 10 years ago like they say if it’s not broken don’t fix it ! Mate I never miss a show keep up the great work kind regards ! Mick

I can't comment on how they perform on game. I agree that the vented arrow is louder than I would like. I've shot the solid and vented 100gr back to back at 50 + yards about 10 times. I had to refletch 4 arrows last night because the second arrow cut my first arrow's fletch. I had never shot past 50 yards until about 3 months ago. With an N value that low it may be just luck but these things group really well.

Wow, this was a very good interview. I'm really interested in the Iron Will 125 broadheads now after hearing the design process and rationale. I am trying to decide whether the solid version is as good if not better than the vented version. Kudos again for a very informative and entertaining video!!!

Does the 280 fps still apply for this head. I'm at 464 g with a 125 four blade. I believe I'll wait on the comparison test between the two heads. Please post the results of the test. Ive made a call to the organ donor hospital for prices on body parts to buy heads. I'll post prices 🤪🤪

Shot to 100 yards with both the solid and vented and both shots back to back were in the kill zone of my delta whitetail target. I also get both into 16x16 rhinoblock. That’s about as good as I can shoot at this point

After viewing many videos of broadhead tests and having poor results with mechanical broadheads, I settled on Iron Will broadheads. I wanted to buy some before bow season but on their website it keeps indicating they are sold out. Where can I get some?

They are not to expensive. Your trying to take an animals life. You owe it to the animal to shoot the best quality broadheads. Especially if your buying some of these $1200+ bare bows. I'll be buying Ironwill heads as soon as I finish tuning my high FOC arrows and figure out what weight head flies best.

What did you pay for your bow set up? They replace the blades no question asked and you can typically shoot multiple animals without damage. I for one will gladly spend the money to get better penetration and better quality but that's just me.

I used to say the same thing but basically viewed broadheads as disposable. Ive never had a slick trick not get a tip bent after pass through. These aren't disposable so if you kill 3 animals per head they exceed the same value...except they are guaranteed so.if you dont lose them they should exceed. Plus they really are better when you need the hardness (humerous bone or scapula).

You have to figure in edge retention. Gotta practice with a sharp broadhead if you want to really practice since a dull broadhead will fly different because of resistance and balance. I use G5 montecs. $35 for 3. I have to buy at least 2 boradheads per arrow to account for practice and hunting. If these arrows can last all practice season, then touch up the blade (if needed) and use it for hunting, then you aren't spending too much more for them. Also have to think about the hunt. My dad drew a prime Nevada elk tag and shot a big bull on day 5 but hit the shoulder blade. Didn't get enough penetration because of the mechanical broadhead. The bull ended up getting killed by a rifle hunter a month later. Scored around 375". $75 more dollars seems like a small price if it meant he would have killed that bull.

39:00 "A deer moves at 1300 feet per second." That's like 800 miles an hour. I'm sorry which part of the deer is this? .. and you're talking to an engineer. He was very gracious bringing it back to gravity.

$100 dollars for 3 broadheads? Then you sell main replacement blades separately from the smaller blades, $45 for main blades, $25 for the smaller blades. That's $70 just to replace blades for 3 broadheads... What a scam.
