I have all his records and listen to everything he says, trying to understand it and adapt it to my own life. l swear every time I feel like I’m making progress he says stuff like the Age of Eventuality thing and I realise I’m hopelessly outmatched. There's a point where Henry says the average person doesn't have the time/energy to read, especially if they're working multiple jobs. I agree, but plenty of us working class and poor folks are listening to podcasts, which have replaced radio talk shows. Plenty of us are listening to this video while working/commuting. Henry recently talked about how he carries a hard drive of pirated music with him all over the world. Now that's a fine first step, but why not take the next step and start passing around audiobooks of revolutionary political literature? I've already started doing it. There's plenty of channels on youtube doing it. We need to adapt and keep fighting.

Henry never comes out and says it here, but he points to it: War benefits the wealthy, it's not to protect anyone. War needs to come to an end, there are other ways to accomplish these ends, but there's so much money in the sale of arms, that it won't end until we the people demand it. He has said as much in other interviews and talks. I sincerely hope the message catches on with younger generations. No one needs to die for geopolitical causes ever again, here or elsewhere. We have the technology and intelligence to find other ways to deal with what the powers that be currently are using war to accomplish.

I can imagine the younger Henry Rollins being bothered by the constant praise the interviewer is pouring on him. In one of his spoken word pieces he's said "Praise is dangerous. It can go from a little to too much in a few words". He's changed a lot as he's gotten older though so maybe he's over that. But jeeeez was this guy incessant with the acknowledgements, as though he had Henry under a microscope and was lauding every cell in sight. That's not a dig on the guy btw. I don't blame him. Henry is seriously a rare one and every word the guy said rang true. I'm just pointing out how it would've been received by Henry in the past.

Rollins is a greatly introspective guy and does better than most as far as being balanced and seeing things from both sides. My only criticism would be the same as with all of us we need to avoid identity and the idea that theres a good and bad side politically or socially because theyre both just the expression of the shortcomings of the opposite side. Take no sides and never identify. This is freedom and true openmindedness.

Henry is a good story teller... he's a pro, but damn well been telling the same stories for 20-30 years now. What it was like at naval academy high school. My teacher who told me to lift weights. I ran a pet store (I was trusted with the keys for the story you know). I used to serve ice cream at Hagen Daaz. My mom was a hippy, dad was a racist/homophobe with a PhD (I have unresolved daddy issues and I hate him, but let's not go there). My record collection (I like James Brown). How I joined the band (Black Flag). Ian Mackay is my friend. I am straight edge but I don't say straight edge (that would be poser). Gay rights. My friend got shot. I hate cops (well, not all cops anymore, just the bad ones). My USO tour. I oppose the war not the troops (there is a difference don't you know). Visiting Walter Reed. Did I mention I went to Iraq? ...man it was intense (but I'm not hard). Now seguay to the Iran stories (mention the people there are nice and make sure I sound edgy but not cocky when I talk about it, chances are you haven't been so I must be less ignorant than you). I like going on holidays in weird countries. I'm here to meet you (oh ho ho). I work hard because I come from the minimum wage world (I only have a high school education did you know)... but I don't work as hard as Greg Ginn and Chuck Dukowski, gee those guys work hard. I hate Republican presidents and I am angry at them. Always on tour (mention how many hundred shows I do a year). I'm not a tough guy and I'm not a smart guy (immodesty is a buzz kill), I am lonely and a nerd with no friends (phone doesn't ring on the weekend), don't have a relationship (too weird for that, plus I am a workaholic did you know, do you want to be like me?), that time when I worked with Al Pacino (insert impression here), by the way did I mention that I say yes to every opportunity that comes my way (films, books, tv shows documentaries), because I come from the minimum wage world, and on, and on. FFS bro, seriously get out of the house more and get some new material, we'll be hearing the same stories when he is 90 like some old demented grandpa... roll out Henry on stage and tell the kiddies all about black flag in the 80s!

Henry has a great work ethic, but he's a bit over-the-top about some subjects he knows little about. I disagree with some of the things he believes in, but so what, he can defend his positions, even if they are misinformed. This makes you not think about the issues. youre going to face being wrong, then face that being wrong comes more than once but its more ok than you anticipated, where you are anticipating it now. then regret will be understood to happen but you wont feel regret as natural until way after as a natural cause. and the life youre leading under strain will end up making more sense than you think and youl realize that under strain youre still not that bad. this comes after getting around the block.
