I've been using my early 2019 Ioniq EV for 16 months as an Uber car. Recently rotated the tyres. Performance has been amazing. The 38kWh version has been a great improvement but my 28kWh regularly gives me 200km plus. I regularly do airport trips and the boot easily fits luggage. My only common fault was the rattle in the rear seat from the seat catch. A piece of material on the latch fixed it. I will probably keep it forever.

What is the lowest percentage you drain the battery & do you get 200 km while the AC is on? I do Uber too, do you think the 38kwh will work for Uber?
@RobertArrowsmith
@RobertArrowsmith 5 ай бұрын
@@ET3453 the 38 Ioniq makes a great Uber vehicle but the slow charge time needs to coincide with meal times. When you get down below 20% start looking for charging places. You would have about 60km left in the battery. If you get one with the heat pump it has less battery drain when aircon is on.
@ET3453

@@RobertArrowsmith So how long supercharging take from 20% to 80 and how is the back seat headroom?
@RobertArrowsmith
@RobertArrowsmith 5 ай бұрын
@@ET3453 the 28kWh Ioniq takes around 30 minutes to charge from a 50kw station but 'I have heard' the 38kWh Ioniq can take up to 50 minutes. That extra battery size adds time and it's a slower rate. Back seat has plenty of room for most people.

I am a long time tesla owner and fan. I am buying my wife an electric vehicle but she doesn't want to pay high price for another Tesla. We came across this ionic electric couple weeks ago and test drove. I was blown away by the efficiency , low price (rebate eligible in Ontario), and comfort and tech interior. She loved it too. I have a deal all negotiated and ready to buy next week. Just waiting to see if battery day will disrupt anything in the EV market first on Tuesday. If not we are getting a grey one

Hi RR, thanks for watching and also thanks for joining the "Revolution" with your current Tesla. Yes the Ioniq is a great BEV and very efficient. You won't be disappointed and makes a great second BEV or a primary one for those that can use it within its daily range and charging capabilities. I certainly enjoyed my time with it!

Nice show! Even with improved range in dead cold winter in the middle of North America continent outside big cities using this vehicle can get scarry before it gets to next charging station. I mostly mean from northern Minnesota and southern Manitoba toward west well into Washington state and British Columbia this car is mostly a city summer car. Also by increasing the battery capacity Hyundai never bothered to update the charging software thus eventually this new Ioniq EV is much slower in charging speed than classical one. This is a nice superefficient car which could have much better range and charging speed. It looks like Hyundai consider it the best oversized city car ever fitting ALL city dweller needs in North America and also allowing longer trips in summer as well. Stay safe everybody.
@EVRevolution
@EVRevolution 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, again more choice the better. This may not work for really cold regions where more winter range is required. Not every BEV fits that mold. Even the Model 3 SR+ can loose up to 50% range at -25C+ temps.

Thanks for highlighting this vehicle Ken, it is often overlooked, but the efficiency is remarkable, especially for a platform shared with gas versions. The slow charging is a concern, and I believe Bjorn found the previous version charged at a higher rate, but the vehicle is still sufficient for many users, especially as a commuter and for 2 car families. I agree that Hyundai and Kia are brands to consider, and i believe Kia is working on some ground up EVs that may be even more capable, perhaps Hyundai is working on some also.

I've got the 2019 28kWh Australian version, lower spec which is Elite here where the higher spec is Premium. I get much more than 199km EPA rating in perfect conditions I can get 220-230km range. I typically plug in once a week, a full charge easily does my commute perfectly. The other thing that I prefer with the 28kWh model is the faster charging as I get 68kW peak and reach 80% in about 15-20min and 94% in about 27min. I love my Ioniq though it suits me for I would say close to all my driving needs though in winter I wouldn't mind a bigger battery to keep me warm but still get the range and of course Hyundai Australia decided not to put in the heatpump unsure but assume the Canadian model has the heatpump. Nice review.

Another solid review, the pedestrian warning sign seriously reminds me of booting up an old Playstation videogame console. regarding the charging speed, I was worried because Tom Moloughney of InsideEVs had a terrible experience when testing the car, he only reached 22kW speed at 3 different Electrify America chargers. @EVRevolution
@EVRevolution 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Victor! Thanks for watching! Both are great choices so really depends on your needs for a vehicle (size, space, carrying capacity, etc.). For range, the Kona is king of those two for range but it is not very big (at least in the back seat area). Both have great efficiencies and have pros and cons for each comfort-wise. Go with what you have the budget for and will work for your daily use case, plus some longer road trips. I would recommend the Kona but the choice is up to you. Best of luck and let me know via email EVRevolutionShow@gmail.com on what you end up doing!

Good episode Ken. Thanks. It’s EVs like this that give EVs a bad name. The range and charging sucks. Also it’s too small to be a direct replacement for a family car. It’s the questions that everyone asks me about my Model 3. When I tell them about the Supercharging speed and the 500 range, most people are impressed. Then they say “I thought that they only have a 300 km range and take a long time to charge.”
@EVRevolution
@EVRevolution 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Danny for watching and for sharing your experience. However, I disagree. This is a great BEV for a vast majority of use cases that don't need 500km range or 140kW charging speeds. At about $45k Canadian All-In (including Govt. Incentive) on the road for the top of the line Ultimate, that's $15K less than the Model 3SR+ and a whole lot less than the Model 3 LR. Plus, they are not comparable vehicles. Would you compare a Honda Civic to a BMW 3 Series? Nope.
@db3837
@db3837 4 жыл бұрын
@@EVRevolution I agree with you to a point. However, slow charging speeds simply clog up public chargers. So this means this type of vehicle would make for a good two person commuting vehicle but that's it. It's not a good family vehicle because the back seat is too small and the trunk is useless. For our family a vehicle like this would actually cost us more. Let me explain. We are a one car family (4 persons). A vehicle like this is too small and has too little range to be of any use to our family. Plus, a small battery will lead to much faster degradation. As you know, all batteries only have so many charge cycles before they lose too much capacity to be remain viable for EV use. Having a battery that is half the size means the battery will die twice as fast. So for me, this vehicle is a big fail and will never sell in any significant volume to make a real difference. Cheers. Keep up the good work.
