In this video I will show how I replace the thermostat in a 2008 Chevy Equinox

My daughter's 2007 Pontiac Torrent (same vehicle) threw a P0128 DTC code for engine below temperature, and the gauge was all the way down to the lowest reading. Simultaneously, the message display said "ENGINE HOT A/C OFF" while she was driving, and both electric radiator fans were running on high. I checked the coolant level (it was fine) and the upper hose was warm while the lower hose was cool. I used this video for reference to replace the 195°F thermostat and also the coolant temperature sensor. I cleared the DTC and then test drove the car for 5-7 miles. No recurring codes, the temperature gauge reads normally and the heater inside the car is significantly hotter than it has been previously this winter.

Sounds like she is ready to go. Thanks for watching.

That's a temperature sensor
@funbro1 Жыл бұрын
A thermostat is defined as a device that automatically regulates temperature, or that activates a device when the temperature reaches a certain point. That is what was replaced in the video.

@@funbro1 I know. What is described here in the comment is needing a temperature sensor replaced.

It could be a temperature sensor that Mean Max Is talking about.

I’m hoping this helps me for my 2017 Chevy Equinox. Ty for keeping the video direct and to the point and instructional vs all the fluff a nutter of presenting. Saves time! Ty!

Thank you so much for this video, I have a 2014 Chevy captiva I know it’s not the same vehicle but after reading the comments I have the same problem “engine hit a/c off” also went to auto zone and they gave me the code to replace thermostat. Just wish I could find someone that won’t empty my pockets to replace it 🤣. 💚

Thanks for this! After replacing my coolant sensor and checking my coolant level is full, I still get the "engine hot a/c off". So I am hoping it's the thermostat that I will be changing next. Thanks again.

Hopefully it is something that simple. Thanks for watching.

Pretty simple job it looks like, aside from needing to drain all the coolant.

@funbro1 How come you didn’t use a Gasket and sealant before putting it back together?
@funbro14 ай бұрын
No gasket is needed. So far, to this date, now leaks or problems. Thanks for the question.

Not needed, just a little gasket sealant is all that is required. Thanks for watching.

Same for a 2009 EQUINOX ?? My engine went straight to HOT and the "ENGINE HOT A/C OFF" message appeared, fans run OK ... coolant level ok but last time i saw it drip from somewhere.

I’m sure it will be very similar if not exactly the same. Thanks for watching.

My engine overheated on Monday and I quickly took it into the mechanic shop to avoid further damage. It's now Thursday and they haven't done sh*t waiting for my damn warranty company to approve since my thermostat is bad along with a radiator fan that's not working and another that is cracked. Just going to do this myself, thank you.
