I wish people would stop commenting on the "outrageous price" in every new RV video I watch. Yes, new RVs are expensive, especially in that they are generally a low volume product. Add together hundreds of man hours of labour (for a small trailer like this), thousands of $ in materials, factory overhead (a building, utilities, property tax, business tax, etc), staff, benefits, warranty, shipping, manufacturer profit, dealer profit, etc. If you think you can make one just as nice for less, then spend dozens to hundreds of hours sourcing plans & materials, thousands of $ for materials, then hundreds of hours more to put it all together. You're going to need welding skills, carpentry skills, electrical skills, plumbing skills, upholstery skills, mechanical skills, assembly skills, a large garage to build it in and lots of patience and time. Nice new things in life don't come cheap, especially when they're made in America with expensive union labour.

No kidding. People seem to think you should be able to buy something like this for a few grand - not realizing a good bike costs a few grand. Oh, I should now apologize to those who have never seen anything other than a Walmart bike.

I'm building my own "off road" teardrop. I'm nearly finished and will have spent at least $6,000 when I'm done. I will have about 300 hours of labor into it. If I could sell it for $15,000 I'd only be making about $30 per hour. Yeah, people just don't have a clue what it cost to build something like this.

Most teardrops of this size and capability are $25-30k. This is a real bang for the buck. Those who think one can get something like this for $12k are stuck in 1996. Yes, you can some full trailers for this price but I dislike the designs of most and build quality by comparison is crap compared to this. Good job, Escapod!

I am hoping for more of a heavy duty gas shock...maybe from fox? Also...things that stick out of the side tend to get ripped off when out on the trails...do you think you could make the shower box not stick out so much? I'm really close to putting my order in... Starting to look at teardrop campers and this seems like a camper that I would consider when the time is right to buy! I'd like to see more on interior storage... As something to consider, is there a way to have the bed fold to a couch? Any way to incorporate bigger windows? Will certainly keep you in mind!
@EscapodTrailers
@EscapodTrailers 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Marc! We appreciate your feedback. Every detail of our cabin design has been highly considered. While there are other companies that offer a convertible bed, we opted for a higher-quality seamless mattress to optimize comfort while sleeping. As for bigger windows... if there were bigger windows you run the risk of sacrificing some structural integrity and lose some insulation. We believe we found the sweet spot, but understand that not everyone would agree! Good luck in your teardrop search and please let us know if there are any other questions we can answer!

I love this camper and hope to be able to get it very soon. I have 2 questions: 1) what is the best (most stable) option to carry 2 mountain bikes? Will they fit on the front platform? 2) How much clearance is under the kitchen cover top when it is raised up? Me and my husband are tall. Thank you!
@EscapodTrailers
@EscapodTrailers 3 жыл бұрын
So glad you love it - we do, too! You can always put a hitch extender on the back and connect a bike rack, which will protect your bikes and the pod. When the kitchen hatch is open, it's about 6"6 at the lowest point, give or take depending on your suspension options. If you get the upgraded suspension in the lifted position, you'll gain about another 4 inches. Hope this helps!

BMW, Porsche, Mercedes. Well built & designed = expensive. These guys are not getting rich and prolly not even taking a paycheck. I doubt they make 50/year of these. Figure a 100% markup, which is normal, and they are working harder than all of us, taking more risk than any of us, and making less than most of us. All to be proud of creating something from scratch. That being said, I'm a Baby Boomer and not afraid to sleep on the ground in a tent. But there is always one day a season, I wake up flooded or with a broken tent pole. We call that a story to tell. To each their own right? Good luck with your business, I drive by your shop frequently and never see anyone there.

marinebeam: store.marinebeam.com/ is a good source of LED lights that can be used in a teardrop trailer. Many of their lights can illuminate in two (or more) colors. Like white or red. Or white, blue, green and red. I bought two 3 W LED Bulkhead Reading Light(s) with Touch Dimming: store.marinebeam.com/3w-led-bulkhead-reading-light-with-touch-dimming/ for my teardrop. I also bought several lights that can be switched from white to red light: store.marinebeam.com/5-5-red-white-switchable-led-cabin-dome-light/ . Check out their selection and you may find several LED lights that fit you wants and needs.

My teardrop is black rhino coat. It really doesn't add a lot any heat. Whenever possible I park in the shade (which is why my solar is on a 20' cable). @@jaycevessier7554 It is the whole point. People that buy these or similar off road trailers have a specific need. Your priorities concerning comfort are not those of over landers. To them the priorities are agility and strength. A 7000 teardrop will rattle apart, a 30' RV will not make far beyond the paved road. My teardrop costs 16K and it doesn't even have the rear galley. Because my priorities are small size (agility) and cargo space. Without the galley I can store an extra 3 weeks of food and water. If I need a toilet I break out my shovel and dig a hole. Yet I am sleeping on a comfortable mattress away from the rattlers, scorpions, tarantulas, mountain lions and coyotes. Snug as a bug in a pup tent on wheels.

No worries, Christopher. We realize we're offering a model that isn't a good fit for certain priorities. We're building a trailer that's meant to handle really technical terrain and difficult to reach areas without being any worse for wear (and still offer plenty of comforts above and beyond tent camping) - this comes with a lot of upgraded materials and attention to details that aren't present in larger RV models. Lucky for you, if standing and pooping inside are priority #1 for you there are lots on the market that are servicing that need ;)

What y'all done realize is 20,000 smackers is pretty damn affordable for something that literly includes EVERYTHING shown. I mean the tent on the top that folds out sleeps 3 bloody people. So by far when you compare it to other teardrop trailers of the same style it is a bargain. Grown up going camping across the USA most of my life and by far this is way more convenient than hauling around a 30 foot travel trailer. I'm only 26btw. Damn! $20k!? Our complete bumper-pull WITH A TOILET was just under that! Who buys these!?
@EscapodTrailers
@EscapodTrailers 5 жыл бұрын
Not many people if you're looking at the entire market, but we are a niche product.Yes, your bumper-pull is towed and you sleep and cook in it, but that is where the similarities start to fade. Comparing a 'conventional' RV with what we're building can start by looking only at the product, but is much more about the question of what you can do with it. You can buy a cheap bike and enjoy riding to the grocery store, but to ride up and down mountains you need a mountain bike with full suspension - a product that is built for a purpose. Your RV is built for one purpose, and ours for a different one - comparing the product without the intended use is only half the equation. We've prioritized a purpose with our trailers that is, in our opinion, much more fun than just being able to poop inside ;)
@Joe_Brown99
@Joe_Brown99 5 жыл бұрын
I wish I could post pictures of where we’ve taken our bumper pull. You’d be surprised. And so far of the pictures posted of people pulling these ‘off-road trailers’, they haven’t done anything I can’t/haven’t done with our bumper pull 😉 1; if I’m pulling a trailer 2; if it’s ‘that pricey’ ... you better believe it’ll be ‘comfortable’. The only thing I haven’t done is pulled in snow, but that’s primarily because of the climate we live in. And I know many like me. We started out in a tent. When your price tag is competing with conventional r/v’s you absolutely will be compared to them. Just a fact of life. Americans are getting out of touch with reality

AC is an optional add-on - really depends on the climate. We don't get much interest in that option in Utah...for most local climates two windows and a powerful fan are all you need to keep cool at night.
@somemedic

@@EscapodTrailers I dig it. I really do. I dont mind a lil roughing it but momma gets a tad grumpy if she cant get cool at night after her shower. And that mattress ain't really gonna get tested either when shes grumpy.... you get the picture Another thing that the RV manufacturers have completely failed to grasp is to just place a sealable hole for a typical AC window unit in their products. The roof top units aren't something that can be easily installed by the end user. You have to go back to the damn dealer and wait 2 months to have a unit installed and more times than not the cost is prohibitive. My son is out of school in the summer. That's when I can camp. Typically it's hot then. These teardrops dont require a 13.5 max air XV to cool them.... just about a 5000btu unit that can be had at the local box store for $125. More often than not I think the buying public would enjoy their camping more if they could relax knowing that if portions of their kit, whether it's their outdoor shower of AC untit fails on a trip they can stop in at a Wallyworld and grab another if need be. It extends their season also. And I see with some units it's possible to do on a solar system or will become more feasible in the next 5yrs

I just have to say a lot of people comment on 20k for this is to much. I don't think they understand the hard work and craftsmanship involved in making this teardrop. It's well thought out design and use of top quality accessories that make it well worth the money. Do a little research into teardrops and you will see they start at around $6,500 and go to $50,000 and your getting what you pay for in this model. it all comes down to what you want bare bones or some comfort or at the best ultimate comfort you get what you pay for. This is just my observation of this do the research before you make a snap judgement about it.

Thanks for the support, Roger - As Ogre Dad mentioned, agility is definitely top of the list as far as why we're building these - what they achieve above and beyond a traditional RV, and why the construction specs and details of these are much more considered. When it comes to exploring varied terrain with confidence we think agility/capability/quality are good things to put atop our list of priorities :)

Depreciation is not at all certain. For example Camp-Inn teardrop trailers (a high quality builder/manufacturer), among others, hold their value well. They are all built-to-order and customized with the options a buyer chooses. Their prices are similar. It's not unusual for a used one to sell for the original purchase price, or sometimes more.

You're pretty close to our material costs, yes...we also have overhead/employees/benefits/marketing/R&D/accountants and legal fees, etc to pay for. We're a business - our cost is based on more than just the cost of goods. If you believe your current setup is comparable, or (like many other comments) you believe you can make this yourself, you absolutely should. You will save money doing so.
@utahwanderlust700
@utahwanderlust700 5 жыл бұрын
Escapod Maybe you should look into shrinking your overhead and thinning your workforce if you can't make a small pod trailer for less than what a real house trailer costs. What I've got now, I can cook in even if the weather is bad, and I can stand up in to put my pants on, and I can park in places near Moab that require toilets. I can also bring my atv and bike with me, and have room for supplies to last a month if needed. All that for WAY less than your pod trailer. I wish you luck, and it's great to see a Utah company making a go, but you're way out of line on prices. I don't see you being around long if things don't change. Just take a look at the comments on this video......90% of them are just like mine.

From Yeti: A few weeks ago, YETI® notified the NRA Foundation, as well as a number of other organizations, that we were eliminating a group of outdated discounting programs. When we notified the NRA Foundation and the other organizations of this change, YETI explained that we were offering them an alternative customization program broadly available to consumers and organizations, including the NRA Foundation. These facts directly contradict the inaccurate statement the NRA-ILA distributed on April 20. Further, the NRA-ILA stated in that same public communication that “[YETI has] declined to continue helping America’s young people enjoy outdoor recreational activities.” Nothing is further from the truth. YETI was founded more than 10 years ago with a passion for the outdoors, and over the course of our history we have actively and enthusiastically supported hunters, anglers and the broader outdoor community. We have been devoted to and will continue to directly support causes tied to our passion for the outdoors, including by working with many organizations that promote conservation and management of wildlife resources and habitat restoration. From our website to our film footage and from our social media posts to our ambassadors, YETI has always prominently featured hunters pursuing their passions. Moreover, YETI is unwavering in our belief in and commitment to the Constitution of the United States and its Second Amendment.

@@Glasscity84 a Little Guy and an Escapod are two very different trailers, build quality, and materials are the biggest difference. They are mass-produced in a large factory as we produce everything with 3 employees, care is given at every step. As for pricing, like most companies, we price off of material cost, labor and fixed costs. Our shop is extremely modest as are our personal saleries. If you take a look at the hand crafted trailer market, we are priced at the mid range. We build because we love the lifestyle and sharing our work with others, not because we are trying to get rich.
