WELCOME to my 35th flight in 2018! On 27th December, I flew Etihad EY13 service from Abu Dhabi to London Heathrow, the aircraft was operated by a B787-9. I was assigned to an emergency exit seat, which Etihad advertises it as ‘Economy Space’.

Triple 7 have the best buzzing sound to me,also the Triple 7 have the best "flaps extending sound to me" The view is so dreamy ! It didn't look real at all

@@JaydenWong I absolutely love the 777 too (the best aircraft ever), and I love every single thing: those loud GE90-115b engines, those large wings (that extend up to infinity), the crude design of the wings (have you noticed how curved the trailing edge of a dreamliner wing is.. as seen from a passenger window: i do not like this perfect curve on dreamliner so much, 777 is the best!!)

Nice trip report. When QR used to service DOH/RUH/DOH flights the B787 Dreamliner was also used and 3-3-3 configuration. I like the B787 Dreamliner because the window is push button and no more shades. But would rather have the 2-4-2 configuration instead.

Hey OneWorld flyer!Nice report on the Etihad 787-9,the interior is quite nice especially the lab.I kinda agree with you regarding the 3-3-3 configuration of 787 however 3-3-3 is the standard configuration for the 787s only ANA and JL has got them in 2-4-2 configuration, Boeing should make 2-4-2 as the standard configuration for 787 as the 787s intend to make the journey comfortable.Looking forward to the next one 🙂🙂

Hey Jayden, I have taken MEL - DPS route on Jetstar's Dreamliner before, they also use 3-3-3 configuration. Despite, my friends and I had a pretty bad experience on the flight, I found that the 3-3-3 configuration for a LCC's 787 is pretty good actually. The footrest is quite decent (for a LCC), plus, the aircraft is sooo advanced. I'd be happy if I can take 787 with 3-3-3 configuration again, not to mention, most of the Dreamliners are in that configuration haha. I reckon when the airlines want to balance between maximizing their profit and satisfying their customers, maybe 3-3-3 config is the best they can choose, so maybe we can only compromise with their choice :) Btw, I really really like your flight reviews ;) ;) you're the best

If Boeing can manage to make the side walls of 787 thinner (like 777x) and have the same config but wider seats, that'd be ideal :D i do not personally like LCC and it's ironically 'difficult' for me to book one due to very restricted baggage allowance (i have heaps to carry with me haha), but if I can book one, i really do want to try of Jetstar 787!

Hi Ching. I used to fly etihad/emirate for HKG-LON flight. But their price now is not as competitive as before. Now I fly with Cathy Pacific or SAS. SAS round-trip costs around hkd4500 now(via Copenhagen) !

Thank-you Jayden for a most wonderful 4K viewing of your flight report. I am so sorry that your flight on Etihad was less than favorable. However, from what I have read, Etihad has been forced to make cutbacks and do some restructuring since it fell into financial problems. Nevertheless, a friendly and efficient flight crew makes a huge difference to me when it comes to selecting a carrier for my travels. I too agree that the 2-4-2 configuration is preferable to the 3-3-3. However, I can only contribute things such as seating configuration, a bad seat headrest, a rather awkward monitor placing, lavatory niceties, and other things to make a flight more inviting to an airline’s decision and not to the aircraft manufacturer. I am up in the air (pun intended) regarding interior aircraft noise and sound proofing. Unfortunately in a quiet aircraft, conversations among passengers, babies crying, etc. seem to negate the comfort afforded by quiet aircraft. At least on noisier aircraft, those items I mentioned are drowned out by the engine hum. I have found that by wearing noise cancelling headsets, the interior noises still are dominated by the engine hum, but the hum is significantly more comfortable. Again, thank-you for taking the time to do your usual excellent job of not only videoing your report, but also the time you invested to edit your post.

Thank you so much for watching (as always)! Yes, if it weren’t the crew, Etihad would’ve left me a poor memory. I do agree that baby’s crying sounds louder and brighter on newer planes haha. Thank god I do have my own noise cancelling headphone and I also enjoy hearing engine hum :)

IMO 787's configuration should be arranged like A330: 2-4-2 in the economy class. You will have approx. 1 inch slight comfort in terms of seat width. Nice video!

9-abreast is actually not too bad in my opinion. 3-4-3 on all other aircraft is much worse. You have to keep in mind that emergency exit seats are even narrower than the normal ones due to the tray table which is located in the armrest. The normal seats feel quite similar to the A350

Good review. 👏 I think most Dreamliners have a 3-3-3 economy configuration. I’ve flown Qatar and Qantas in their 787s and both were fine (though A350 is definitely better). I’d definitely choose the 787 3-3-3 configuration over the 777 3-4-3 any day. That’s way too narrow!

I will be honest and I like the 3-3-3 Konfiguration. The thing I hate is when an airline have a 3-4-3 Konfiguration for example on the 777-300ER...hate that!

Great review! Love the GENX buzz. For economy class, I think 787 with 3-3-3 configuration is better than 777 with 3-4-3 configuration.

Skystream Flights / no difference between a 3-4-3 777 and 3-3-3 787 both economy class seat width are 17” wide, that’s slightly narrower than average, but as a passenger, I’d say 3-4-3 B777 was more comfortable for me at least it is a bigger aircraft, you have more space to walk around ;) My experience was with Qatar Airways, a wonderful Airline, despite they have a 3-4-3 configuration in a B777, the 33inch generous legroom make up for it :)

Emirates Airlines fares better than Etihad Airways in terms of inflight meal, seat and service from cabin crews. Took Etihad Airways from Athens to Abu Dhabi 4-5 years ago. Service was fine despite we flew in small aircraft (A320), but cabin crews were unfriendly and a bit disinterested in serving both business and economy passengers...🤨 In short, whenever we go to Europe on one-stop destination, we always pick Emirates over Etihad Airways 👍🏻

I’ve flown the Qantas 787 in economy multiple times and I find nothing wrong with the 3-3-3 layout and there’s only 2 inches more legroom than the 747 economy which I’ve been on too and there wasn’t that much difference

I flew a lot of times in the notorious 3-4-3 configuration on the 777 and eventough i was lucky to have on one flight a (zürich-bangkok) a free middle Seat, it was always tight. One nightflight with a regular male passanger next to me was awackward. As soon as he fell to sleep and lost bidy tension his shoulders were touching mine. Inhad to put a pillow between us. Never again on a 3-4-3 777. The Dreamliner looks almost as bad. I will avoid the 777 and the 787 as well. For some reason qatar and lufthansa uses on the a350 seats which seems just a bid widter whereas the aisle seems gigantic. The seats on the a330 are much wider.

7 hrs? I took the same a330 from hkg...to visit my landlord and surprised her a mth after I moved back to sgp in April 2016...the day was spent in hkg which was great coming in from sgp on SQ a380...then 2 hrs layover in Abu Dhabi's airport and on to their 787-9 to Zurich...I am not too impressed with Etihad but overall was ok when the roundtrip ticket was just about 800 ago dollars...

I try to avoid the B787 anyways. I don’t get how people can compare it with A350! I flown both planes on the same day with Qatar Airways, the moment I stepped on the A350 coming from the B787, it felt like heaven, A350 is much more comfortable, more space, higher ceilings, bigger toilets, wider and overall better seats. Overall an amazing experience Onboard the Qatar Airways A350, highly recommend flying the A350 specially on long flights & Qatar Airways

Thank-you for the great comment Aviation Trips. Especially for long haul travel, I would much rather pay the extra money to fly comfortably than miserly take the least expensive flight for a variety of reasons. Although I have never flown on a 787 or 350, I understand why airlines might be motivated to purchase the 787 over the 350. Their objective is to pack as many people as possible into an aircraft and fly them the least expensively as possible. Despite its smaller size, configurations, etc., it is much less expensive to purchase and less expensive to operate when compared to the 350. The 787 is designed to fly further on the same amount of fuel than the 350. However, the 350 is capable of landing at destinations with smaller runways than the 787, making it a more flexible aircraft in my opinion. Again, thank-you for your thoughts and evaluation.

Great video, Jayden! A problem with these emergency seats is storage. I would definitely sacrifice legroom for storage! Did you manage to try the normal legroom? Wonder how it is. The first meal looked good, but I am surprised they only gave out a bit snack for the second meal. Maybe they only had headrest to your right, hence your sore neck!! I survived the QF 3-3-3 economy on their inaugural PER - LHR flight last year. Yes, the seat was narrow. You get very cosy with your neighbour! But, somehow, the same layout on Royal Brunei 787 felt not quite so narrow.....maybe I was slimmer then? 😉😉😂😂

Thanks for watching! I would also sacrifice the legroom for storage! Anytime! I asked for a back row seat and they ‘upgraded me’... Wouldn’t let me to downgrade while many were asking for an upgrade 😂 Now, to be honest, it’d be a huge dare for me to fly Qantas 787 Perth to London. Maybe you felt like a royalty on Royal Brunei so you didn’t feel narrow 😂

I always here this a bit high pitched noise when a 787 is taking off or landing. What is that sound? It’s like idk how to describe it. It sounds like an ongoing beeping.

Neither do I! I sat near the wing on my recent 787 flight with Qantas! My seat was buzzing throughout the whole flight lol. But it was not very noticeable. Thanks for watching!

It’s always nice to have extra legroom. The 3-3-3 configuration is awful and I imagine sitting at the window seat and you have to cross out to use the bathroom. 😩 #PainInTheAss

Hahaha I'm in the Land Down Under now. I flew QF30 with a 787 in the special Yam Dreaming livery (VH-ZND). It was extremely uncomfortable and narrow, wouldn't survive 17 hours. After watching your "Good food on QF" video, I thought whether or not there will be good food on the flights to Land Down Under. It seems brekkie is still fruit platter + banana muffin. Also, there was no welcome drink

depends on the route and aircraft. If from the UAE to London, I think I'll pick Emirates A380 for economy and first class. I'll consider all options for business. For lounge, definitely Emirates.

Why do airlines have a seat configuration of 3-3-3, most people I know will go either either as a pair or with another couple so, in my opinion 2-4-2 is far more practical as one of your party doesn't have to sit on their own

The seat configuration depends on the aircraft types. 3-3-3 has one more seat than 2-4-2 and most airlines choose to have the narrower 3-3-3 on the 787 as it's more economical, only Japan Airlines have 2-4-2. I too prefer 2-4-2, if you're sitting by the window you only need to climb over one person to reach the aisle :D Thanks a lot for watching Brett!

Absolutely not Adam, I will avoid those seats in the future. The seat configuration was already narrow, exit seats are narrower as tray tables take up some of the space. Thanks for watching!

The A350 is more comfortable than the 787, although both are in 3-3-3 configuration due to the wide seats, higher ceilings and roomier cabins in the A350

Although 787 is one feet wider than A330, I'm still wasn't convinced for airlines to introduce 9 row abreast configuration. I had my excruciating flight onboard ANA 787 and I swear to avoid flying on same model aside JAL's economy class. Other than narrow seats, the buzzing sound haunted me until now because it has conditioned me to afraid 787. Boeing shouldn't call it Dreamliner but Night-mare liner. I'm sad to see the fall from grace from such prestigious aircraft manufacturer that was once created ultimate 747 and 777 that comes with great innovation, safety and comfort is now an another example of McDonnell Douglas greed, corporatism culture.

I recently flew Singapore Airlines older 777 and it was such a comfy ride, I really didn't enjoy many of my 787 flights with 9-abreast, except for one time I got 3 seats for myself lol. Thanks for watching Chris :D

i cant say i have ever flown in a 3-3-3 economy. i would have thought it would have given you extra bit of room, but must be a narrower plane then, if it didnt? the food looked nice. I pity you with that crying toddler. hope it wasnt for the "whole flight" to UK

Yep it is narrower than A350 and 777. Japan Airlines is the only 787 operator that has 2-4-2 layout in economy and it’s so much nicer! The toddler sat just behind me haha. I overheard their conversation with the crew, they’re travelling all the way from Sydney to London, probably too much for the baby haha

Make sure you have a roaming plan for international use, if not then turn off WiFi assist as that can use data even if your cellular data is off because that can use data when your on a poor WiFi connection even if your cellular data is off and put your phone into airplane mode. Emergency number calls are free tho in most countries.
