My guess would be that the sale came from notifications, because people who have favorited your shop get notified if you have new listings. So that’s another browse feature on Etsy :)

Hi Kara, an Etsy expert told me that my SEO needed to be improved. This expert gets a subscription fee from many people every month for their advice. Original title: Clove Scented Solid Perfume - Cologne Current title: Solid Perfume, Solid Cologne, Clove, 16th Birthday Gift, Girlfriend Gift According to them, the current title is better than the original in terms of Etsy SEO and the reason the listing is not doing well is because Clove is a "Fall" scent. Their formula for the title was, Product + Occasion + Who is it for. I am so confused!

That's crap, I'm laughing really hard right now, except that this person is probably taking money for doing nothing. You don't need a formula for a title, just write what it is. The gift stuff can be put in title or tags, you don't need a formula for that. That new title is a string of keywords and is how Etsy titles were written 10 years ago. Search engines are smarter than that now. The listing might not be doing well for any number of reasons, one of which being that people can't smell things that are sold online, and fragrance is really personal. If you like the scent of cloves you don't care what time of year it is. Titles tell the search engine what something is, they don't guarantee sales.

Always great info, thank you! Concerning the Privacy on Etsy, because the info... "Etsy keeps your payment information secure. Etsy shops never receive your credit card information." ...is already written, do we really need the Private info written by us? Thaks again~

You don't have to, but it doesn't hurt to have it in more than one place. People don't read everything, so it would be fine to put it in your policies.

Thank you for another great video! I'm seeing a lot of short 3-word titles showing up on the first page of Etsy search result. Are Etsy search engines "favoring" the short titles now?

They're testing something where they stop showing the title after the first punctuation mark. So if you have a comma in the title it will cut it off after that. I went in and took out a bunch of commas from my titles because a lot of my listings said "ships fast" and nothing else under the photos!

I never search for my own listings. That whole "on the first page" doesn't make sense. Most of my traffic come from other places than search. When I'm struggling to find keywords I think about how few that searches and move to the next listing. Selling vintage with 600 listings. I finally sell consistently and is still growing my sales. I'm focusing on optimizing and using the my time efficiently. I have many repeat buyers.... would it be a good thing to provide a coupon for them? Do you use them?

I do coupons for email list signups, but I let them use the discount code forever, so it's like a coupon for returning customers.

Until seeing one of your videos recently I was under the impression that keywords/phrases/long-tail keywords used in titles should be repeated where possible in the tags. To learn this is no longer the case was a bit of a punch in the gut as I'd just done some work in my shop and made sure all listings were in good shape. Can you clarify - or direct me where to learn about this - what should tags be used for if it's not to reinforce the keywords used in the title? You've probably gone through this many times for your followers but I need to understand it. Thanks!

Etsy doesn't REQUIRE that you repeat anything. But to be on the safe side, I say to repeat your "best" keyword, whatever you define that as, in the tags. After that, you can just fill the tags in with other relevant terms, whether they make sense on a single tag or not. Etsy sees all the words regardless of whether they make sense. So for example, if I have a tag that says "mother daughter sister" and on another tag it says "birthday gift special," Etsy will find that listing if someone searches for "special birthday gift for mother."

How do you get a vintage listing pushed to the top when it is one of a kind? Do they look at your store overall and say they are selling items let’s push them to the top?

There is no permanent “top” because everyone sees different things. You could be at the top of search for certain phrases but not others, too. Just be as accurate as possible because Etsy is going to do what it’s going to do with placement and all we can control is the keywords.

Hi Kara, I see you’re not accepting POD shop owners. I have one, But I have a question about titles and keywords. I’m being told to use long tail keywords but then also being told to use specific 2-3 words that describe the product because long tail keywords are too generic. Do you have an example of what really works that I could use in my title and tag creating? This SEO stuff is driving me mad! It’s like coding. 😖

If you mean in my Facebook group you can send me a message on Facebook so i can check your shop out if you have a POD shop. Long tail keywords contain short tail keywords, they’re not mutually exclusive. I’d recommend watching my SEO videos, i haven’t changed the way i do it for years because i don’t rely on tricks and formulas.

I have my own domain name which leads to Etsy. I use it on business cards and Instagram. Is that fine or would it be better if people clicked on my Etsy shop address instead of my domain?

It's fine, and if you get a website you can redirect it to the website without having to re-do a lot of links everywhere.

Question please, what do you do when a listening is deactivated by Etsy due to a customer’s review? The customer used a medical term in their review describing how the product had helped. But Etsy deactivated the listing.

Contact Etsy directly and ask them to look at it, but if the listing is being used for a medical purpose in general you might run into it again.

How important is adding things to the ‘materials’ section when you have already covered them in the description ?

Materials isn't used for SEO or the keywords, it's there for customer information. It does show in the listing, though, so it's a good place to put things that the customer would need to know about the listing as far as allergens, metals, etc.

I don’t remember it either, but it’s definitely something they need to have. I am getting so sick of seeing the SAME listings whenever I do a search (for analysis purposes) in a browser window where I’m not logged in. It really is no wonder that the top of the top are the ones that make the money on Etsy.

I started on Etsy in 2008 so it was probably around that time but it was great, literally showing new listings as they appeared in real time, slowly scrolling across the home page It was effective too as I bought things that caught my fancy in a ‘I didn’t know I needed that but I like it so I’ll buy it’ mood and wouldn’t have searched for

@@maheshbalan1590 Well, most of the people in my program are doing "this crap" full time on Etsy and online, but Etsy is only one selling venue. My guess is that you're a dropshipper who shouldn't be selling on Etsy anyway, so there's that, too. Etsy isn't a get-rich-quick scheme.

Some punctuation and proper sentence is your friend. (regardless if it's your 1st language or not). it's just as easy to be profitable on etsy vs amazon FBA (and just as easy to fail and lose money). Amazon audiobook and its digital division is new, I don't know the data for those. But different business tactics are required for the platforms. There are pro and con to each, and they cater to different mindset customers. ETSY has more room to grow. If you using amazon strategy on Etsy of course u gonna fail. Compare ETSY to amazon-handmade is more appropriate.
