Euro NCAP performs a series of crash and safety tests on car models:
- a frontal impact test, 50% of the width of the car is striking an oncoming deformable barrier, also travelling at 50 km/h
- a frontal impact test, the car impacts a rigid full width barrier
- a side impact test, a mobile deformable barrier impacts the driver's door
- a pole test, the tested car is propelled sideways into a rigid pole and the robustness of the centre airbag is evaluated.
A series of pedestrian tests are conducted with different impactors, adult and child head form, lower and upper leg form and whiplash tests are performed on a sled as well as AEB pedestrian and cyclist tests.
Active safety is tested based on the car’s equipment: autonomous emergency braking car-to-car scenarios, occupant status monitoring (including seatbelt reminders), lane support and speed assistance technologies.

You should change the crash tests, these days people are driving SUV's more often. The Alluminium deformable barier should represent a SUV.

I mean, to be fair, this is Europe. Their SUVs aren't that much larger than sedans.

1400kg is the deformable barrier. That represents quite well what European drive. Lots of people drive small SUV’s and they weigh somewhere between 1300kg-1500kg

@@cityplanner3063 I guess the could maybe make it 1750kg because a VW Tiguan or Hyundai Tucson as popular European SUVs weight about 1600kg but then there are maybe 2-4 passengers inside and the weight get’s higher and also don’t forget about heavy BEVs and PHEVs

the real danger is in side crashes, as you sit much lower in a sedan and the only thing between you and the suv hood is the air curtain

Let alone the personal protection from accidents, it is a great car to protect you from lawsuits that can result from pedestrian crashes.

I wonder why they keep doing 50 and 64km/h crashes when most front accidents happen in 90km/h speed.

My guess would be that given its relatively low sales numbers along with a high price point, crash testing the S Class might not be sensible (same with most of the other high end vehicles). Of course, the manufacturer crash tests the model, nevertheless. Would be cool to see a Euroncap crash test of an S Class though :)

junk 80% for pedestrian protection but that car crashed into the dummy 2 times very bad the score have to be 60%.

Airbags for the rear passengers, mounted in the front seats, should be introduced ASAP. too much dummy movement..

@@christopherredhead4182 Rear airbags could really help at high speed head on crashes(near 60km/h and more) since at those speeds the injury measures for the head become ridiculously high but there probably won't be much visible difference for the cars tested by EuroNCAP.

They have been introduced on higher spec models. But in lower speed crashes they aren't going to make a high difference. And as someone else mentioned, euro ncap won't see a difference really either at the speeds they crash test at.

Why do the airbags dont go on if the driver isnt wearing the seat belt? My dad died in a Mercedes last week and they didnt go out, why if this car is so expensive, it doesnt do it automátic.

It all depends on the crash really. If you’re unbelted, there’s a good chance that the airbag could: 1. Do nothing effective 2. Do a little to help 3. Hurt the driver Safety belts are by far the most important SRS device in a car, and if it’s avoided, I’m not quite sure what else can be done.

Fails at least two pedestrian Aeb scenarios by hitting them and still gets a five star rating. Nope. I’ll buy a Haval, they are more advanced and safer. Chinese cars are the best now.
