Thanks for this video. I had a P0420 and a P0457 codes going off on my 2003 Subaru Legacy Outback, as well as an evap monitor taking years to ready. Decided to take a look at my vent valve and found it to be completely rusted over. Replaced it with a new one off Amazon and haven't had a code since; Evap monitor also became ready in a 30 min drive. Passed inspections and Saved $$$! Glad I didn't have to replace the filler neck (knock on wood).

Thanks so much for this video! I recently replaced the valve on my 2003 Subaru Legacy. VERY helpful seeing the exact part and how simple it was to replace. "Simple" is a little misleading as all of the bolts were so rusted, I broke one and had to cut another off. But $10 at a hardware shop fixed that problem. Anyway, The Check Engine Light is gone and the stalling problem after fueling is fixed. Thanks again!

I've a 2001 Subaru Forester L with an error code P1443, so when I found your video I actually saw the part to know that I'll be ordering the correct one. Thanks for your posting: I enjoyed your clear and honest explanations and reasons for taking action. Keep up the good work.

P1443 is for the purge valve which is on the intake manifold in the engine bay. This video shows you the vent valve and isn't the correct valve for P1443. The EVAP system has two solenoids, the purge (engine bay) and the vent (near the charcoal canister, vents to atmosphere). The vent valve is the cause of the P0449 code. The purge valve is the cause of the P1443 code. Valves can also be the cause of small and large leak codes such as P0457, which means that the ECU is reading correct resistance to the solenoids (not throwing the 0449 or 1443 codes), but one of the valves/solenoids is mechanically stuck. You could also have cracked/unhooked vacuum lines, cracked charcoal canister/fuel tank tube.

Robert, sometimes, the diaphragm - which is made of a silicone rubber compound - tends to crack up and form some lines though which the vacuum might be lost. That could have been the real problem. In any regard, I appreciate your video and it is very informative. Thanks.

great video very informative. I am currently dealing with the exact same code (p1443) on a 1997 ford thunderbird 4.6l v8. so far I have replaced every single vacuum line in the engine bay now i am going one by one testing the evap solenoids and valves both volt and vac replacing any i find out of oem spec and reinstalling with dielectric grease and a wipe down with silicone lube/protectorate soaked rag. I am at the last point of failure b4 leaving the engine bay the charcoal canister plan on pulling it and testing it later today to see if it is dead I'm luck it's a ford so most of the evap system is shared by a mustang/cougar/taurus/f150 etc... the parts are cheap as long as they are in stock. Anyway i am still throwing the code even though i replaced most of the evap system if the charcoal canister checks out and it is still throwing the code i am not sure where to go next i was thinking maybe a sensor or the ecu but i duno any ideas would be welcomed. btw other than the check engine light/code there are no symptoms. This code has made me grow to hate the evap system i am so frustrated i feel like punching a hippy/environmentalist for putting me through this hell infact screw earth if the charcoal canister doesnt rid me of p1443 im going to cut down 1 full grown tree for each dollar i spent and burn 1 old tire for each day i wasted tracing the problem if thats not enough i will invest in a oil/coal company and spray atleast one case of old school hairspray loaded with cfcs then i will flip earth off good and proper for good measure.

Hello, sir quick question I asked you about the evap system like last week for my xj8 would not take gas at the pump but everything else would be fine I tuck you advice from the video and made the conclusion that my issue was the purge valve or the canister (THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ASNERING MY QUESTIONS) I CHANGE THE PURGE VALVE AND THE CAR STARTED OFF LIKE IT DID NOT WANT TO TAKE THE GAS I LET IT RUN AT THE PUMP AFTER A FEW MINTUES IT STARRTED TO TAKE GAS AS NORMAL. my question is this normal or is this something that has just happen do to the fact that I removed the part and pressure was released. please and thank you for all of your help.

So you did replace the valve even though you tested the old one and it seemed to work fine? Because I have same problem and my valve also tested fine? It's is the only part I haven't replaced also.

Just curious as to how to tested the valve while it was plugged in? Did you simply open and close the fuel valve?

One piece of advice, if you will.....focus the camera. Also I wish you would show some of the process steps and not jump around. Other than that I appreciate your video and experience.

I'm pretty lost as to what was going on. Camera focus would probably help. Does anyone know if P1443 can be responsible for poor mileage? I'm only getting 300-400km/tank since my code appeared. I used to get 500-600.
