They should of named it Annoying Green Horse Habits, not all horses that do these are young ;) How about an episode on Annoying Young Rider Habits and coaching them to not do it?

I've had a seven year old mare for a week now, and the previous owners of her said she was bad at standing still. I have used every opportunity to get her to stop and stand still until she is told to move. And in just one week she has gotten extremely much better. When she moves, I say "no" and move her back. Also, she must stand longer if she moves. When she's good, I say "good girl" and scratch her under the forelock. She went from spinning around in the stables when I brushed her, and now I can braid the whole mane without her moving a muscle. Everything from positive experiences for her. She is also obsessed with looking at things. She doesn't react in any other way than just looking, and she is allowed to see. If she is skeptical of anything I take into the stable, or anything outside, I let her look and/or smell it, and then she just don't care anymore.

How have I never seen this channel before? This was actually a way better vid than I expected - very helpful! A friend has a hard to bridle greeny right now, and my horse is a pain to mount because he always swings his ass out if you go about it too quickly. I'm going now to check out the other videos, thanks for making this one!

my 10 yr old QH never learned to stand at the mounting block or while mounting from the ground. he's terrible but we work on it all the time and he's getting better! thanks for the tips!

When I go to get on a green horse that is moving, I hold my foot in the stirrup, but I have their head bent around to the side so all the further they can go is in a circle. Once they stop, I take my foot out of the stirrup and try again. I do this until the horse is standing. Not only that, but I always tell them "Whoa". That's the word EVERY horse should know, and it should mean plant all four feet. It's a livesaver, trust me. And of course, when the horse is standing still, I get on, but after I get my other foot in the other stirrup, I immediately start bending their head from left to right. This teaches them that even though I get on, it doesn't mean they go right away. Eventually they will just stand wherever I put them, whether it be a mounting block, a ditch, or flat ground. If you have a horse that likes to take off when they get turned loose in the pasture, there is a much more effective way to teach them not to run off. First, you bend the horse's head towards you. You can take the halter off the nose, but keep it around the neck and keep the head tilted towards you. Then, when YOU are ready to turn the horse loose, take the halter completely off and YOU walk away from the horse. The horse will then learn that it doesn't have to run off. If you let the horse walk away from you, this will also pose a problem later on for catching the horse. When you walk away from the horse first, you are taking the pressure off the horse first instead of the horse taking pressure off itself and running off.

I love the first 2 horse colors so much oml. The second tip helps a lot! The horse I ride isn't that young anymore (19) but keeps doing this. x)

could u do a vid on how to steer in canter when I go up to my Thursday lesson we would regularly canter but my horses always do half the arena and an you the horses have dead mouthes where I am and it's so hard to steer!

Teaching a horse to stand still or to be bridled or anything really....using positive reinforcement is a great way to go. Using clicker training in combination with very gentle natural horsemanship always works and horses just love it. I train horses for years this way and never had a horse fail.

My horse becoms a bit agressive when mounting or being taller then him. He walks off and turns his head to my hand like if he was going to bite me. This only happens when i try to keep him still or when i just go on, he takes a few steps but doesnt have that tiny agression. I know the " abression" isnt that much but ya, have any tips? (He's an ex-race horse so i think he had been broke only for the track money which they didnt take enough time to train him)

My gelding starts to move off before I get on and refuses to stand in front of the mounting block on occasion. I can't get on from the ground sometimes because he starts moving off. He's been kind of spoiled by his last owner, so we're working on it. He's a good boy though, with a very level head.

have you any advice that will help me to get my young horse going forward in the school he is fine riding out but naughty bucking/rearing when asked to go forward even in walk in the school I have tried back to basics and spent weeks lunging with side reigns long reigning ect and the moment I sat on his back we hit the same problem. I cant see he has any back issues as surely he would protest when being ridden out and he seems happy to do this. very disheartened please can you help.

When I got my mare she had issues with when I let her out she would immediately turn and go so I taught her to stand until I said "go on" by telling her stand when I unclipped the lead rope and if she went to move I grabbed her and said "stand" until she stayed still for a bit then I let her go. Now she waits until I say go on and even sometimes after I say go on she'll even hesitate to go to make sure she really is allowed to go. I really like these tips ill definitely try the mounting one because she's done that before too :)

Hi Evention Tv could you plz do a video on how to stop your horse running away from you in the stable when you are trying to tack them up. My 12 year old mare has a big problem with this the only way I am able to get the bridle on her is by using a treat. PLEASE HELP...!!!

My horse does that thing where he moves after i get on him, but when i first got him he use to just take off because he hated to stand still. He still walks off after i get on him, but he doesn't take off at a quick pace like he does. Although i am going to have to fix it because i can never get my feet in the stirrups quick enough. I know this is old but I have a yearling that has a field mate that he’s best friends with (who is also about a year old) and whenever I try to take my colt’s halter off, he stretches his head up as high as possible and backs up so I can’t take his halter off. Help?

my OTTB mare, who I've only ridden about 15-20 times has the opposite bit problem! She practically launches for the bridle!! Oh, the magic of a copper bit! She LOVES the bit! Its just a simple big Dee ring, with nice thick bars, double jointed with a copper lozenge. all I do to bridle her is drop the halter around her neck (USPC member!!), put the reins over her head, and hold the top of the crown piece, she grabs the bit, and all I have to do is adjust the straps and fasten them! Love her!

I need help with my young green broke mare. She is a very naughty little thing, and when I go to take off the clips on the wash rack and put on her bridle, she will either back way up until she is off the wash rack or she will immediately move away from me and begin to graze, and pays no mind when I try to pull her head up. She is extremely impatient and rather rude, and I have gotten onto her about a lot of things so far, but this in particular is becoming a real challenge for us. It's really dangerous, too! I ride a horse that likes to run out on jumps, its annoying sure but is there any training tip you guys could give me?

Great tips! A bit of a further an long thing, but my young horse is learning to work in an outline and he favorite thing to do is put all of her weight in my hands and try to get me to carry the weight of her head around. If I try and push her forwards properly into my hands, she just moves faster -- it has made her become very rein dependent and is giving me blisters! I've had people tell me to "drop her on her head" and do LOTS of transitions -- and I've tried both but neither is helping :S

I can totally relate to putting the bridle on, i ride an 18hh clydesdale/thoroughbred and when i try to put his bridle on he tosses his head in the air. but he is not young he is 19

My horse when im taking off the bridle he will not let go of the bit and he will rear up and take off with the bit in his mouth and the whole thing dragging on the ground and he will step on the reins which im afraid he will catch it on something, put his leg though it, or he will ruin the bridle, hes 15 but acts 1 got any advice?
