Today we are going through the functions and capabilities of the new Everlast Lightning MTS 275 Multiprocess welder. Our objective was to test the low lab amp capabilities of the machine and go through the different pulse options and AC frequency capabilities. Prior to the video, we went through the different processes the machine is capable of running and and got familiar with the settings.
We started off doing some razor blades to test out the low amp arc initiation, we got dialed in at 40 amps and welded a set together just to see how well it would perform. Overall, it welded great with the lower amps, We then set up some 16ga. stainless steel and checked out the pulse functions.
For our initial test, we ran 1 pulse per second on an outside corner joint, the machine performed well, but due to the low pulse setting I had to run a bit slower than I would have liked to. The slower travel speed caused a higher heat input which caused some sugaring on the back of the weld joint. This is no fault of the machine, I just think 1 pulse per second would be better suited for thicker material. We then jumped up to 75 pulses per second and I was really impressed with the way that it functioned. I was able to run faster where I normally would on stainless and there was no sugaring on the backside like we had on the 1 pulse per second. The weld turned out very well and we decided to go ahead and max out the pulse settings and see what 150 pulses per second would do for us. The User Interface of the Lightning MTS is pretty intuitive, your major settings are all listed on one screen so you don't have to go around looking for sub menus to make adjustments. There are a couple sub menus in the system but they are easy to access and are items you really don't have to adjust frequently like whether you intend to use lift arc, High Frequency etc. We went back into the menu and ran the pulse to maximum (150Hz.) Once again, the arc initiation was very stable and the machined performed well yet again.
With the low amp stainless out of the way, we set up an outside corner joint with some 16ga. aluminum to test the frequency capabilities of the Lightning. I decided that 60Hz. would be a good place to start because most rectifiers run on 60Hz. At 60Hz the weld turned out okay for the most part but the bead was a little too wide for the joint we were running. Once we stepped up to 120Hz. the bead profile narrowed out and produced a very appealing bead. The max 200Hz. yielded a slightly narrower bead then the 120Hz. If I had to use it daily for this type of joint on 16ga. I would say anywhere between 120Hz. and 200Hz. would be a good setting for this type of work. I also noticed that I could travel much faster with the increase in frequency.
Overall the Lightning performed very well on AC and DC. We will be covering the other modes, features and functions in some upcoming episodes so make sure to subscribe to the channel and click the notification bell so you never miss an episode. I bought a 200 amp welder directly from China its the best welder ever in the amp range , I only welder I've seen or known off that does 500 ppm on AC and 500 ppm on DC current, I have the everlast 255 ext welder for slightly heavier aluminium, but my go to welder is the Chinese welder, it cost me about $570 Australian dollars freighted to my business and have used it for the last 5 years not one issue, my everlast cost $3150 The Chinese are ahead in the market place in technology and engineering we don't always get the models released R and D , my welder was hand built and assembled for me directly from the company and that is standard for new customers , some of the features on my welder are slowly being released on the market now, 5 years latter 👍😀

Excellent sir, I bought the MTS 235 several years ago and have yet to use it. I'm a renter, and my landlord wont allow me to install 230v into the garage. I didnt think of that when I purchased the welder and the plasma cutter. Dohhh! Now with the electrocution I'm not sure if I will be able to go back to welding, I'm pretty torn up...
@bwjbrown
@bwjbrown 4 жыл бұрын
Do you have a dryer receptacle close to your garage? You can get a receptacle converter and extension cord that will give you nearly your machine's full capability without changing the wiring. The dryer circuit (and breaker) are likely at 220v 30amp - unless you're trying to weld a Navy ship or bulldozer (which you could do on stick anyway), you're not going to pull more than 30 amps anyway.

The Multimatic 255 is not a "couple hundred extra", it's at least a grand extra. And even though it can do push/pull aluminum, it CANNOT AC TIG aluminum. Not really a comparable machine.

Advanced square is all around best, controlled arc n good heat input. Soft square and triangle wave are better for thinner alum because EN and EP are are switching faster so less heat input, sine wave is just like the old transformers (syncrowave, precision tig) which is sort of like soft square. I mainly use advanced square on +1/8" and triangle on 1/16" or less

I know they're one of your sponsors but I do have a question that I would like your honest answer on. Is this machine too much for a beginner? I'm not talking about the price I actually think the price is pretty damn good for everything that comes with it. I just don't know if this machine has too many settings for someone starting out. Most of the time I plan on using this to repair body panels on car bikes trucks hell even an airplane if you can get it in my yard lol. It's very close friend of mine owns a large welding company across the whole state that I'm in. There is time that he gets things that is too complicated of a weld for his guys. All they do is stick weld. And they're not getting judged on how well the weld looks. He has a lot of different things that people contact him for and it's mostly stainless steel and then aluminum. I do know how to stick weld when you have a close friend that owns a large welding company sooner or later they will ask you to go with them a give them a hand. Matter of fact all they use is gas powered machines. Most of the time when they break he does not have time to fix them and most of them come to my house so I can work on getting them back up and running. With doing so I have learned stick welding. I don't do a lot of MIG welding right now. He gave me a brand new Miller 140 a few years back for getting three of his machines up and running in one day. The only thing is that it's set up for flux core and as you know all I would need to do is hook a bottle up and change my wire. Sorry forgiving you so much information but I figured it would help you to answer my original question if you knew a little bit of my background in welding. I do enjoy your videos and yours was some of the first ones that I had watched to learn more about a tig welding. Look forward to watching some more of your videos.

Aint1S 1/16” tungsten 30° grind angle, 1/16” E4043 filler, gas lens with 20CFH, 20amps no pulse 200Hz frequency. You need to clean the cans really good, we used 120 grit sandpaper and then scotch brite. Then wipe it down with acetone. Poke a hole in the very bottom of the cans so the air can escape. If you don’t the air will heat up and blow out your weld towards the end. Good luck man. Oh and you’ll also need a pallet of patience 😂 👊

I'll tilt the wire up about 5-10 degrees but it still undercuts about 1/16th of an inch. Flat is fine and over head is fine, but horizontal always undercuts. I've only ever tig welded copper before, so this is uncharted territory for me.

What’re those gloves you’re wearing lol looks like maxi flex.. Edit: they are maxiflex are those thick ones or what?? I’ve never had a pair of those I could weld in besides bridging and deck lol

Joshua Marcotte I used these because of the low amperage and small filler size. I needed more dexterity. I wouldn’t recommend them for welding with for most things.

Say, everlast wouldn’t happen to be sending these out would they? Lol kevin caron yesterday, now you guys. Worth noting his vid has 1.2k views in over 24 hrs and yours hasn’t been out a full day and has 10k. Maybe they should send one to me next time if they want that amount of views. I can pull that off.

At 2 amps you should be able to weld straight-razor blades. An amp and a half for tinfoil ;-)

I believe they are planning on releasing it end of 2019 - Early 2020. We have it to do some product testing and we thought we'd give everyone a little sneak peek.

David Mm they can always be better. It’s been a while since I’ve done TIG work. I have learned in my years never to brag on my work. There’s always someone better out there especially in the comments section 😂
