I stand by this statement.
If you farm livestock, and you have never tried out a skid steer for ALL your yard work, you are missing a trick, for lifting, loading, digging and bulldozing, levelling and stacking... In a smaller yard or tight spaces... the little skid steer will out perform its bigger brothers most of the time. Most of this job was spent idle because I only had one small trailer to load, four grab fulls at a time.
I have driven and used bigger handlers, but always returned to my Mustang.
If you want help support the farm and channel by sporting some of our Farmer P merchandise, T shirts, Mugs or Hats etc, Please visit our eBay shop.

Yes Skid Steers are indeed worth their weight in gold ( as they say,.....whoever 'they' are ) I used to have these in my equipment rental fleet, ( plant hire ) they were especially good for snow removal and clearing especially 'round tight spaces,..as you've found here in barns etc. Thank you, again Squire!

I remember my Grandfather doing custom work for the neighbors with his CASE 600 Bean Special combine when I was 5, way back in 1970. He's set the machine up, then turned me loose to steer the thing around and around the field while he made a run to the mill to unload the truck of whatever we were harvesting. I rather enjoyed it. It was a good way for the family to make a little extra cash. Granddad was the only one in the area at that time with a self-propelled threshing machine that could be set up to do beans, peas as well as wheat.

kingzy3120 I have cleaned out more than a few big sheds too, in fact one was an old aircraft hanger. The penning and gate system though made a lot of the compartments quite small. The Sanderson pilot bought a skid steer 😄..... As well as, not instead of. 😁

The only load you don't need to strap is a loose materials load that should not be loaded above the sides of a trailer which where possible should be sheeted up. It's not always what we might do but if something unexpected happens and your load is tipped off then there is a problem. But it's your responsibility and your risk! Good video though and skid steers are indeed an asset to every farm!

Legally you are supposed to secure all loads to trailers. Its a £5,000 fine, 3 points and a disqualification under the 1991 road traffic act. Possible imprisonment if the insecure load caused injury or death. Surely it's worth the 5 minutes it takes to throw 4 straps on, just for peace of mind. Danger does not have a day off. Better to try and fail, than fail to try. Not criticising, just trying to keep you safe. :)
@FarmerP
@FarmerP 4 жыл бұрын
Clunk That’s a fair cop, and you are not wrong, but defining a secure load in this case ? There is no way the machine can escape the trailer unless all 2.5 tonnes can jump over the 12” sides, the only way I could loose it would be if I tipped the trailer which would be difficult unless I was driving like a twat. I’m too old and boring to drive like a twat , those days are far behind me 😄 If I was travelling any distance I would definitely have two big wratchet straps on “belt and braces” but a Pete is only a mile away and I was being lazy.... I admit it. 😬🙂
@LordClunk
@LordClunk 4 жыл бұрын
@@FarmerP Fair point. However, VOSA would not see it that way. They have been coming down hard on the haulage industry about this recently, Their argument is, in the event of an accident, the load must remain within the confines of the trailer/vehicle. I know up the line they were targeting farmers pulling bales with tractors, as many don't bother strapping the bales. I just don't want to see you hit with a large fine, especially as you are potentially hugely out of pocket with the TB situation. :)

Is there much fertiliser value in sheep muck Ian? That stuff looks quite dry compare to say mucking out a cow shed...
@FarmerP
@FarmerP 4 жыл бұрын
Kenneth Green That was a very dry clean out, the fertiliser value will be quite low I expect. But it needed getting out before lambing so the sheds could be limed.

Stephen Aubrey The simple answer is yes, Stephen, normally I would. You said in an earlier video that you were getting pass ports ready for cattle. Can you explain that better.
@FarmerP
@FarmerP 4 жыл бұрын
James Engle All cattle have a passport, A paper and electronic record of everything from birth until death, wherever an animal goes their passport goes with them, including to the abattoir. Our IR cattle will be leaving us next Thursday as long as the APHA license is agreed, when they leave here all their paperwork must go with them. It’s all about traceability James. The department of agriculture know where every bovine was born where it’s been, what other animals it has mixed with, when it travelled when it arrived, when it left.... and when it died. It’s all for food and bio security. If foot and mouth or similar ever rears it’s ugly head... The government can use the passport information to get ahead of it. I hope that explains it ok.🙂👍

Never put the weight on the tongue of a trailer he done that in the United States you be fine by dot thousands of dollars not being tied down I know you don't have to where you're at but I'm just saying in the United States and I know that you should know you put all the weight you can on them tires not up here at that tongue and not the very back of it so that wait it's on the back that you got on the tongue needs to be turned around and put on..but you can drive the hell out of that machine

keith knight In fact You do need to tie down a load like this in the UK too Keith. I was being naughty for a 1 mile trip. Towing with a Coil sprung Land Rover is a bit different to the old leaf springs, they compress much quicker making the load look very front heavy, unfortunately though loading the skid steer forward has the opposite effect which can make the trailer fish tail.

Bio security is always a concern Richard, if I was mucking out cattle I would have to wash and disinfect the a Mustang before and after. Pete is 100% sheep so it’s not quite as crucial, plus the sheds have been empty for months and are fairly dry. The Mustang will be getting a good blast with the power washer... as soon as it stops bloomin raining 🙂👍
