First Impression reflects Golisopod's fighting habits. It's strikes hard to compensate for the fact it will yeet right out of the battle after taking 50% damage. This behavior is seen throughout the animal kingdom, where predators will not risk hurting themselves against something that wasn't immediately disabled from the opening blow.

I always thought First Impression is a move created based on Golisopod lore than what is observed from real-life insects, but that's still quite interesting.

One of the best survival tips for being attacked by a predator is to fight back. The big predators are at one of the most inefficient ends of the food chain so they don't want to waste energy killing something that's fighting back. They'll go for something else that's weak or young so they won't fight back as much

Ahh Leechlife, the move that spent 6 generations of pokemon as one of the weakest moves in the game and the bane of spelunkers running into countless zubats. To be changed in the 7th generation to become one of the best Bug-type and life stealing moves in the game because the big Musclesquito from another dimension wanted to use it and be effective.

It made X-Scissor completely irrelevant, so why not buff it by increasing its critical hit ratio? Many slashing moves have it and it would make it more viable than just Leech Life with no healing.

I assumed First Impression was that way because for most people, the first time they see a scary looking bug, they assume it's far more intimidating and scary than normal. Maybe the reason it gets a power boost is because of that?

4:30 Buizel learns Fury Cutter because it's a weasel, much like the Japanese mythical kamaitachi, a weasel-shaped wind spirit famous for surprise-attack slicing people with blades of sharp wind, which is also the inspiration (and Japanese name) for the move Razor Wind, which Buizel can also learn. I think it might be closer to how a bug flails when you're holding it. If it has a weaponized limb, like a mantis's, it'd smack you repeatedly until you let go and perhaps the momentum combined with already inflicted damage boosts the attack strength.

Maybe when using infestation and attack/defense/heal order it's not that it summons REAL insects but rather summons the bug types spirit or bug magic to make little energy bugs, this theory also works with all of the bug max moves and more

Fun fact : in French, First Impressions is called Escarmouche, which basically means a small fight, but what's interesting is that it has "mouche" in it, which translates to "fly" in english, and you guessed it, a fly is indeed a bug.

Think of leech life as being less related to the animals known as leeches, and more related to the act of leeching. It is a move that literally leeches life. Something many bugs do to eat, such as assassin bugs and all arachnids

New bug type move: Move: “Love Dart” (愛タップ) Physical Power: 75 Accuracy: 100% PP: 10 (Max: 16) “User passionately rushes at the opponent and deals a forceful jab with their stinger or horn.” Will cause infatuation if the opponent is the opposite gender of the user. Deals double damage if the user is infatuated. Ignores the effect of infatuation.

GippyHappy Snails literally fight each other when they mate; using their love darts to stab each other in whatever body part they can hit and successfully impregnate the opposing snail that they’re mating with. The love dart, however, is not the where the “love juice” comes from. They do have a dong that interlocks with their mate’s to exchange baby goo. The love dart itself is to make sure the other snail actually gets impregnated as it can stop another feature that snails naturally have. Snails can kill the “essence” from other snail within their body if the love dart isn’t injected to stop it from happening.

Im pretty sure that wasnt a generic snail and its love-dart, but the very VERY venomous cone snail and its stinger. It lives under water and can even kill a human. The penis(es) of snails look differrent.

Fr, that First Impression reasoning is actually very relatable and makes sense. Idk if it was the inspiration for it or if it was something like how a bee's stinger can't be used more than once (bc it dies, but we don't mention that in our cherry orchard) or something else. There's probably some obscure reason. Love the video and have since gained more knowledge about bugs. I have met my requisite information intake this video, thank you for allowing this viewer bot to power down for the night.

One of the many reasons I love Gen 5 is because Bug Type Pokemon actually got good in battle. Before then there was just Pinsir, Heracross, Foratress, and Scizor. The only good Bug Type move that was widely available was X-Scissor. But then got Bug/Electric, Bug/Fire, and a MYTHICAL Bug/Steel type that could learn, Flamethrower, Thunderbolt, Ice Beam, and Flash Cannon! Not to mention a signature move with 5 possible types, one of which being Water. And I don't even need to explain Quiver Dance. Volcarona and Genesect are tied for being my Favorite Bug Types and are probably some of the most powerful Pokemon ever! I'm so glad that I grew up with Black and White, not to mention that it BUGS the Genwunners so much.😁🦋

I'd argue that bug type pokemon moves aren't nearly as bonkers as what real bugs can do in a lot of cases. Running so fast all your perceptive senses shut down, for instance. Edit: Also I suing you because you said "plant spunk" with your out loud voice.

3:46 I more so imagined the web like a black widows or turantulas, where instead of a careful blob of web strung together, its more like a big mess, with many different atrings attached to different levels, acting almost like one of those lazer traps, and so a pokemon has to avoid stepping in it, making it harder for the pokemon to move withh speed
