I’m surprised some people don’t like Sheraton Commander. It has really good lyrics with Rivers revisiting Harvard and reflecting on those days and how much he’s grown

Happy to see you here Slippin' Jimmy. Maybe I need to listen to it more to appreciate it, I just think it's oddly placed and it kind of slows down the momentum of the album.

@@idoblogs Well first of all I thinks it's a banger and super catchy, it concludes and ties up the ideas of Summer in a great angry anthem, the final guitar solo after the "Goodniiiight" gives me a "There's more where that came from" vibes, in general, the song just makes me instinctively headbang because of how intense it is Also most importantly the lyrics are not meaningless or "AI generated" as you call it, it counts the story of a person who has been underestimated ("In the first game of my rookie season I was way out of my league" "Everybody laughed at me") and has something to prove to the world, "From this vintage I can see everybody looking up at me, and I know how it will be, I gotta keep flying, flying" the eyes of those who underestimated them are now on him and he has to prove himself, he gotta keep flying, flying Even the "Ain't no kid on crutches" part has meaning to me, the protagonist is saying "I'm no kid on crutches, I can pull my own weight, I can prove it" as to what the protag is trying to prove I feel like is left ambiguous on purpose, there's referwnces to flying and blimps but it could very well be a metaphor And yes one part pulled from The Beginning of The End (Which is actually the Volunteers demo) but SZNZ constantly repurposes parts of other weezer songs and demos

40:22 You forgot how good, again, those lyrics at the end are: "I look into the glass, and see my wasting skin, and pray would God it came to pass my heart had shrunk as thin. For then I undistressed, by hearts grown cold to me, could long await my lonely rest with equanimity." Best for last.

Tbh, I liked the addition of the saxophone in Should She Stay or Should She Go. They did a dance rock vibe for most of the songs in Autumn, which is fine, but when I think of Fall I definitely think of Jazz. Plus I like saxophones, so I do agree they could have played it throughout and it probably would have been better.

Loving this video so far, but I think you’re missing some stuff on “Wild at Heart.” The solo doesn’t emulate the vocal melody like a Green track. It goes lots of different places and you can feel the energy of Pat and Rivers tracking together in that section. Also, All This Love is about Rivers being creatively unencumbered again. Instead of worrying about “waiting for lightning to strike” and trying to calculate and analyze every variable, he’s just going to express himself honestly and let “all this love” out. He confirmed this in an interview when the album came out. Also it’s a Pat Wilson co-write so…. Bonus points! The mask lyric feels like a double-meaning where of course, it is a reference to the pandemic, but it’s more about obscuring meaning in his songs (sounding like lyrics were written by an AI as you said lol).

Sorry, one more - Sheraton Commander is about a hotel that was across from where Rivers lived in Cambridge, MA in the Pinkerton era. The courtyard has a statue of George Washington. It’s about Rivers’ longing to revisit that time in his life but due to time and age, the place doesn’t feel how it used to to him.

Pretty much all the interesting decisions Rivers and the band made in the SZNS Album can be explained by the fact that they had a specific, unique vibe they were going for in each, almost as if they are playing a character, so you cannot expect the same throughout...that wouldn't be what they are trying to do with Seasons. For instance, you might say they could turn "The Sound of Drums" into a more hard metal/ classic version with lots of screaming guitars and harder lyrics and it would be "better." But that would defeat the point. Much of the album (some songs in particular, i.e. Lawn Chair) are intentionally dramatic/ silly, overdramatic, in other words, theatrical, to the point that Weezer had actually planned on playing them on Broadway. If you listen with this understanding, it becomes much more enjoyable. (Also if you listen to each EP at the correct time of the year).

58:18 I don't think Iambic Pentameter is in iambic pentameter sadly. Still a nice song though Each line would have to be 10 syllables long and follow a stress pattern of unstressed-stressed. like ti-TUM ti-TUM ti-TUM ti-TUM ti-TUM ("Shall I comPARE thee TO a SUMmer's DAY?")

Deadly serious lol I just saw them in concert a few months ago, and the song was a lot of fun live, but still isn’t great imo F tier was probably too harsh, but it was one of my least favorite songs in the SZNZ series. So only in the SZNZ context, I think it’s placed decently. In the context of all of Weezer, it’s probably in D for me

It is an intentionally dramatic and silly kind of song, like theatrical almost. It's very enjoyable listening to it like that.
@adjd1576
@adjd1576 8 ай бұрын
It is theatrical. Take the line : "Unsatisfied with rain you made tears; and threw out your baby expecting we'd praise ye and worship thy name in a song." Obviously, I don't agree with the idea that if God sent his only son to earth in the Nativity that that would be a bad thing, and Rivers isn't making some serious point here. But from the point of view of someone who hates God and is upset at seeing pain and suffering, unable to reconcile them with the reality of an all good and loving God, like the Christians do, it becomes very good. And that part of the song goes hard. @@idoblogs

one thing i noticed with all these records is that most of the songs have a theme they follow according to their season, ie. summer anger, autumn sad, but theres always one or two pop songs that feel out of place cause theyre meant to be singles. Tbh though pretty shit tier list altogether.
