@It's Kan, the main villain is horrible, the plot is all sorts of rubbish, the main hero gets nothing to do, Mary Sue saves the day at the end, the humor ruins everything, so on and so on.

Which isn't surprising, considering that the humor was written by the same "genius" who wrote The Predator, a movie so bad, it makes Alien vs. Predator Requiem look like a masterpiece. And it's just in general the problem of most of the MCU movies, which always rely on dumb, badly written humor as a substitute for real writing. Garbage movies like Guardians of the Galaxy and Spider-Man Homecoming come to mind. "Tell me how the plot is bad." The setup of the main villain, the way he and the main hero are connected, is poorly written and stupid. A guy gets mad at Tony Stark for dumping him on a party and decides to wage war on the whole world. Terrible. The decisions which the characters make make no sense. Maya Hansen comes to warn Tony Stark about an attack coming after him, but she is then revealed to work for the bad guy who arranged that attack, which means that she willingly went there to warn Stark and Pepper about the attack while knowing that she can get killed as well. The entire idea behind the attack, in which Stark willingly asks someone to come and kill him, is dumb. "The villain is supposed to be a joke of misdirect. Even Tony in the story admits it's ridiculous." I'm not talking about the Mandarin. I'm talking about the actual villain of the movie, the one who used the fake villain to cover up his plans. Aldrich Killian, that guy. He's an awful villain. Maybe you don't remember him. Which I understand; nobody remembers him. "It's a pure comic book fun fest." It's very hard to see Iron Man 3 as "pure comic book fun" when Iron Man 3 shits all over those comics on which it's supposed to be based on. "The action scenes r different and creative." CGI-fests with lazy jokes, like all MCU movies. Nothing different or creative here. "Stark adapting without his suit is very poetic and fun." It's hard to call it poetic when it's: A) Plays out like a spoof. B) Stark does not adapt, because he does need his suits in the end. Not one, not two, not even three, but dozens of suits to save the day. The movie actually proves that Stark is nothing without his suit.

I think it's more of an "empty gesture". I have a similar issue with Thor: Ragnarok; Tony Stark destroys his suits but builds them with ease anyway and the next avengers/spiderman film shows that, so all he did was cause some expensive fireworks to go off to maybe prove a pedantic point to himself or his girlfriend. Thor loses an eye. He now has to live with a disability. It mirrors Odin's life, Thor has, in a sense, finally stepped into the shoes of his father. Except the next film gives him an eye and murders his people so Thor loses all of the character growth and the prosthetic is so functionally identical to a real eye that Thor basically has an eye tattoo. The MCU is afraid of lasting consequences within their solo endeavours. Characters can't commit to a lot of change, at least, nothing that can't get undone before the end or at the start of the next. Iron Man has PTSD for exactly 1 film, Thor loses and eye for maybe 40 minutes of screen time between two films. I'll bet money Gamorrah gets all of the previous's Gamorrah's memories back and is functionally identical by the next Guardians film. Bruce has literally had the best and most consequential character arc; He started out as a man struggling to contain the beast within and by Endgame has merged with his inner monster as a middleground compromise that's the best of both worlds. I think one of the reasons origin stories work so well is because their is a significant change in the status quo. You get to see what the previous normal was and then get to see the new normal. It's also why films like Logan work well, or "old man" films because the new normal is something that just happens to all of us; we age and our bodies don't work as well as they used to.

@@MatthewStevensOrMattDave In a way, Bruce's story benefits from Marvel not making (either due to licensing or some other reason) a standalone Hulk film. His story can't be contained in a movie and its sequels instead it had to be spread throughout the MCU. I definitely get what you mean. It feels like any real stakes are gone. We could've at least gotten one movie of a superhero's origin that occurs during the snap or some sort of impact from all the things which have happened. It seems to be an issue that plagues most superhero stories though, unlikely to change anytime soon.

It definitely isn't implied that Tony kept obsessively building suits to stave off his PTSD and anxiety, but he's still Iron Man and making new suits when they are needed (Mk. 45 was made with a new A.I. since Jarvis was uploaded into Vision) is reasonable. The Iron Legion is kind of cheating but he made them with a simple definitive goal, which was to provide extra assistance to the Avengers, Now funnily enough it was clear that Pepper misunderstood what he was doing since they're still having problems when we come to Age of Ultron, and those don't get fixed until Endgame. The point is these are real tangible effects from Tony's decisions and issues that don't just go away. Hell, it's his anxiety and PTSD along with how Wanda fucks around in his head and sends his fears into maximum overdrive that leads him to create five more suits (up to the Bleeding Edge armor) by Infinity War. That's still only 8 more suits in about a 5-year span. Pretty reasonable if you ask me. For Thor, well, even if he gets a new eye (something that is apparently very easy to come by since that isn't the only prosthetic eye we see the Guardians interact with) he is still affected by the events of Ragnarok and especially the slaughter of his people. Plus the new eye is crucial because with the lack of depth perception it would have been really embarrassing for him to completely miss that axe throw at Thanos. (OK that's a joke but Rocket pretty much says this when he gives Thor the new eye) Basically, his physical loss with the eye doesn't directly translate to his internal struggles, so even with the new eye his attitude and outlook don't really change, and once they introduced the idea in the Guardians movies, why not just give him a new eye when he meets up with them? There's pretty much no good reason not to.

After my Panic Attack back in November, I started to like this film more than when I first saw it in theaters.

most people hate the mandarin twist and the villain. but for me killian was great and that twist had a huge part on to make him even greater. people says ''his motivation was weak he just dumped by tony and get ready to kill himself''. when we first saw him, his character was obviously a loser and we can see that even before tony, nobody gave a damn about him for his whole life and plus he was crippled. and this kind of thinks can easily push people to the dark ways. personally i found his motivation uniqe because most villains motivations being like ''i want revenge and nothing else matter'' or ''im gonna do all this bad things for greater good''. now these are good too but killian's actions show how human beings can be so sensitive and unstable even agains the most simple psychological wounds. just like electro from TASM 2 they didnt use one big motivation but a lot of little motivation. and this twist was brilliant because it show us how he got from 0 to 100 by using his own insignificance Instead of letting it kill himself. a little-known comic book villain use a well known archenemy's name for bait people and when people look another way he risen and he was about to take the position of the most powerful man in the world also I'm glad there's no Mandarin in this movie. because first of all they have to give him those alien tech rings and they have to make relatable story for them. second i prefer more modern designed mandarin. just like the mandarin from iron man armored adventures. not some fire-lord ozai looking guy

I think the difference between Extremis and the villains in the previous movies wasnt its type, it was its origin. First two movies the villains were war profiteers, much like Tony used to be, and were him trying to escape his past. Correct me if I'm wrong, (it's been a while since I saw that movie) but Extremis was created as an attempt to heal. It came out of good intentions but was twisted to be used as a tool in a plot to gain power. This makes the movie not about Tony's past, but his present, and his future in Age of Ultron. How creations made with the best of intentions to help people can cause great suffering if they go astray.

FINALLY SOMEONE SEES THAT PARALLEL TOO!! I noticed the ending of Iron man 3 was a parallel to him quitting drugs once and for all (whether the parallel was intentional or not.) Him finally deciding to undergo surgery to remove the the small thingy (I don’t know what it’s called lol) was him starting over and realizing that he’s more than just iron man and his suits (choosing recovery and starting over, realizing he’s more than a felon and an addict and has more to offer.)Throwing the one thing that was keeping him alive at one point (arc reactor/drug stash) and letting it go for good. This with the Burger King thing are great. And for some reason I didn’t see anyone else talking about this one this way, it’s very interesting.

You can search an interview with Shane Black where he states that neither he or Marvel execs thought of it as a risk, since Mandarin isn't that well known as a villain. And he also talks about how MCU nixed the original villain, who was a female, because of the fear that toys won't sell as well or some crap.

I would say that the easiest path to that would be some kind of faith, one where you get a happy-ever-after sort of fate, or finding a purpose bigger than yourself. Incidentally, this is also one of the fastest paths to happiness, and it's a shame so many people have forgotten it.

That whole subplot about crippled veterans went to nowhere and was not explored at all. The problem with the Mandarin and his rings probably would have also been the depiction of Thanos with the Infinity Stones afterwards....2 villains with hand-jewelry based powers might have been too much. I know that they are completely different, but depicting it might have been hard.

Cage wasn't a lowlife crook that ended up in prison for drugs. He was framed for the murder of his fiance. He charged people what they could pay because he needed to actually eat and put a roof over his head, and if you ever actually read a Cage comic you'd know that he rarely actually got paid by customers, but rather from being on retainer for both the Defenders, and for a short while, the Fantastic Four, and what money he made was usually spent buying new shirts because they'd keep getting destroyed. And yes, Mandarin is basically a ripoff of Fu Manchu, and extremely racist caricature. That is literally what he was designed to be since he was created back during the red scare. MFer's skin was yellower than a Simpsons character. And I'm not an IM3 apologist, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Just because you didn't doesn't make you right. Also, Mandarin got beaten like a pathetic idiot A LOT in the comics.

The movie itself was also flawed. While yes from a personal standpoint I hate IM3 mostly because they RUINED one of my favorite villains... just as F4 RUINED Doom and Galatics. But the other problem was the lack of Iron Man in Iron Man 3. He was only in the suit for like 30% of the movie (similar reason amazing Spider-Man 2 failed). Do you know how hype the world got when the first trailer showed The Mandarin and a prototype Hulkbuster.. one of the best villains vs one of the best suits.. yet we got cockteased.

The movie does have a few other minor flaws, i.e. Killian being a pretty lame villain anyways

Dante Kiyoshi Lack of Iron Man isnt a problem. If you think it really is, then you missed the entire point of the movie, which is kinda dumb since they literally spell it for you.

The fact that stark has 42 suits at his disposal yet dons the only one thats a prototype with no weapon capabilities, has nothing else to defend his home with and spends alot of the movie trying to repair said suit despite having more fully operational suits that can be called to him at any moment is annoying to me. Tony starks whole character is that hes a genius billionaire inventor who can make an arc reactor with a bunch of missile parts in a cave so making a movie focusing on what he can do without his money and tech is what brought the movie down for me

@@dymorphadon5293 except that was the whole point of the movie. Go back to a the previous movie the first Avengers and look at a scene between him and Captain America. Captain America asks in a very condescending way "big man in a suit of armor,take thast off what are you?" For which Tony responds very quickly genius billionaire playboy philanthropist. That coupled with the rest of that argument and what happened at the end of The Avengers and Tony was clearly dealing with PTSD and while he may not have shown it during The Avengers what cap said to him did it affect him. Him asking himself what is he really without his suits? The whole point was to prove that with or without the suit he is Iron Man he is a hero.

In the very grounded universe of Iron Man(not the Avengers or MCU), having a Mandarin with magical rings wouldnt make a whole lot of sense. Killian ended up being almost immortal and very powerful due to science, not magic. So that is a win for the Iron Man universe. I knew about the "fake out" before watching, and I guess that took off most of the sting. I actually feel it was a good thing that we didnt had to have a long background story presented to us in the middle of the movie. It could have easily ruined the pacing completely.

Same here. I was not a fan of this at all but after rewatching it a few times, I’ve come around on it. I’d easily rank this over both Thor movies (looking forward to Ragnarok), Cap 1, and Ultron

but I would've been satisfied with pepper dying and Rhodey as War Machine helping him instead (Tony figures out how to be iron man without the suit, and his friends save him through out the movie humbling him) after credits - a grieving Tony Stark flying into space.

That’s the thing... The general audience thinks it was amazing, but then the comic geeks obviously didn’t like it... I guess It’s just hard for filmmakers of comic movies to find the perfect balance where both sides are satisfied...

I think more specifically, he should cover The Hobbit, since there was a lot of hate thrown on those movies because they departed so much from the book, ignoring the fact that the book is mostly silly names and really doesn't fit in the same tone as the following trilogy of books
