X-Men: Apocalypse has the hard task of being compared to two of the best comic book films ever. As a closing to First Class trilogy it does a lot right. Maybe the critics were wrong. Here's everything right with X-Men Apocalypse.

A misconception of Magneto's power it's that he just controls metal, it more scientific than that, he can even control electromagnetism wich is one of the FOUR elemental forces in the universe, this is actual science, in the comics he has stated he can sense Jupiter's magnetic force field, that bananas is his power

Magneto is an OMEGA level Mutant. Not just because of his ability to control every ounce of metal on the entire Planet of Earth, but his ability to sense and be able to ALTER any and ALL Magnetic forces. He could legitimatly just destroy the entire Magnetic Field around Earth, killing EVERYONE on it. Imagine being able to do that. Imagine feeling every bit of metal in the entire Earth, even the metal in the Planet's core, and the magnetic field itself. In Magneto's case, he doesn't learn "metal is everywhere", he learns the extent of his OMEGA level abilities. Apocalypse only shows him that his power literally wraps around the entire planet.

Just because someone likes the X MEN version more than the MCU version does not mean he doesn't read comics. The MCU Quicksilver was a lot like the comic version sure, but not every thing the comics do is better. This one is surprisingly a way more interesting character.

I wish that the fact the Magneto is Quicksilver’s father was touched upon in this. I would have liked for Peter to tell Eric that he is his son. Then have him and Raven leave like they did, leaving Eric conflicted. When he hears Peter’s scream that pushes him hard enough to help the good guys. Heck I might write this.

What I particularly liked about the Quicksilver sequence in this one was the gradual transition from leisurely clean saves, moving people all the way to safety and stopping to have a snack, or a bit of fun, to the end when he's literally throwing people out of the nearest window as he realises that even with his speed, the explosion's threatening to out-pace him...

Fun Fact: That line "You can fire your arrows from the Tower of Babel... But you can NEVER. STRIKE. GOD!!!!" Was actually a last second addition to the script. Singer actually pitched it to Isaac after a lunch break. Also they had to do 2 EXTRA takes of that scene where Erik kills the officers while holding his dead family. the first take was so perfect, that some of the crew had to leave the set during the filming of the scene to cry. Also, Singer makes an appearance in the movie during the scene when Wolverine is killing everyone in the facility.

I'm honestly so glad this channel exists. As much as I enjoy Honest Trailers and Cinema Sins now and then, the internet seems to cultivate this mass mentality that hating something is actually a fun and worthwhile undertaking. Satire is great, but most people seem to take too far, and in too large a volume. There's no need to spit so much bile about films or TV shows that were good, mediocre, bad, or just not one's kind of thing. I love me a good discussion, but I don't understand the mentality of it being fun and cool to just hate hate hate everything. The fact there's a Cinema Wins channel - and that it's successful - restores a lot of my faith in the wider internet community, and I hope this channel's viewership only continues to grow. All things in moderation, and for every Cinema Sins, there must be a Cinema Wins.

Jo Vonn My comment wasn't purely in reference to this film, but in terms of internet audience reactions as a whole being largely and unnecessarily negative. X-Men: Apocalypse itself was deeply flawed, full of stifled character moments and weird storytelling decisions; however, it's disheartening to see people be so vile about it. The same went for Age of Ultron: whether the film is good or bad, some of the things that people spammed Joss Whedon with over social media were just disgusting. You wouldn't say that to someone's face in real life (or, if you would, you should really reconsider socialising with anyone ever) and the fact that it seems to be okay to be so foul-mouthed over nothing over the internet is indescribably sad. A bad film isn't a reason to send someone death threats, or to use social media to "shame" them. It's not smart, it's not funny, and it certainly isn't an appropriate way to interact with others. Also, as a side-note, the majority of the audience for any comic book movie is people who haven't read the comics (and when I say majority, I mean between 80% and 90% at the very least) so concessions on fidelity will always have to be made. Not to mention that the format of a comic book narrative is vastly different to a 2-hour film narrative. Some studios are better at translating comics to the screen than others, but the same can be said of any genre of films or format being adapted for film. Film criticism is one thing, and I'm glad to have a good discussion over controversial or divisive films, but there is a culture of needless hate, in which reason has no place. That's sad. Very sad.

@@lucydreemurr5781 that might be true. Good point. It did seem to get worse though when they tried to touch him or turn off Cerebro, especially when Alex started destroying it- basically whenever it was physically touched. I was thinking, we saw in DoFP that Charles made the control panel on Cerebro short out (or whatever it was doing I forget) so maybe it’s doing the opposite now? Like whenever Cerebro is touched it’s hurting him instead of vise versa? Or maybe it does have something to do with Apocalypse more directly like Apocalypse is trying to protect his connection to Charles and therefore preventing people from stopping it- idk

Boring and underwhelming. Not much focus or development with the X-Men themselves, the Four Horsemen felt underused, pointlessly shoehorned or had no point in the story at all and Apocalypse barley did anything in the movie despite being the title villain. +yutube jode childish mcu? I got used to Apocalypse being an unstoppable monster, whom even Wolverine couldn't hurt, who could desintegrate x-men in a few seconds(all that actually happeined in the 90-s x-men series) so I had huge expectations and this movie utterly disappointed me. In the series they defeated Apocalypse in a completely different way, MUCH more complex, epic and interesting. and that was a kid's show, which was far more complex than the movie, which was meant mostly for adults!

Okay I love how at 7:53 he starts laughing that quicksilver is kicking butt then immediately cuts to saying Ohhhh that's brutal when his leg gets broken. I can't be the only one who loved that. By the way movies amazing and I love how they addressed the fact that people thought apocalypse wasn't intimidating enough even though he rocked and brought goosebumps with every scene he's in. I mean the dude took down quicksilver "brutally" quite well too I might add.

@TOONYBOY 5 жыл бұрын
@@masterpenguin8472 Apocalypse is the movie version of Darkseid from DC Comics. The guy is INFINITELY more powerful than any of our heroes COMBINED as he literally has the power to give anyone and everyone unlimited power and has the power to drop people through the floor of the world and trap them underground. He can control all atoms and cells which makes him fucking unbeatable. He has the power to accomplish his goal of killing all humans and allowing mutants to rule the world in an instant, but decides he wants to control everyone's minds. He says he needs Charles to do this but Charles doesn't have enough strength to control that many people, so Apocalypse just gives him the strength. It's almost immediately revealed that Apocalypse inherits the powers of anyone he possess, meaning that when one body gets old and begins to die, he transfers his soul into the body of another mutant, gaining their abilities and maintaining all previous abilities. This is how, over the course of centuries, he's literally amassed the power of God. Apparently, the only ability he needs to accomplish his goal is telepathy, which is convenient. Not only is it ridiculous that there have been absolutely no telepaths before Charles but the way it was set up for the X-men to save him was also very stupid. Apocalypse gave Magneto the ability to control the fucking Earth so he could deform cities, bridges and make impenetrable shields out of it all, he somehow didn't make the decision to get him to put the shield around him to protect him while he possessed Charles. Like, are you kidding me? if you had just shielded yourself like a sane person instead of sending your TWO WEAKEST followers to fight the X-Men then you would have possessed Charles and dominated the Earth. This movie could have been 10 minutes long, five minutes setting up Apocalypse and showing him being uncovered, then the next five minutes him capturing Charles (which takes 30 seconds in the movie, teleport in, use telekinesis to pull Charles to you, teleport out) and possessing him, the X-men wouldn't even have time to react. There is no reason for it not happening this way. There is so much wrong with this movie that I can only give you fragmented opinions here.

Fox/Singer don't know how to make comic book movies yo
@crazycriz5000
@crazycriz5000 7 жыл бұрын
Peter Bayn Well they didn't show the previous Mystique's backstory, so the old Mystique was kinda a villain by default. This Mystique on the other hand has been shown to have had a close relationship with Charles and other good mutants, thus making it easier to accept her being a "good guy" or fighting alongside the good guys. I personally enjoy both sides of Mystique. On one hand, I guess I long for her to go back to the friendly loving character she was when she was with Charles, but on the other hand I enjoy her being a badass villain. She's actually probably one of my favorite villains, male or female. She's flawless.

Christian Bebee But that's the thing man, she didn't need a back story. She's a 2nd tier villain at best. The reason they gave Magneto one is because he's a top tier villain. So was Apocalypse (even though he was horrible). Mystique didn't need or deserve one. They only did that because of the actress portraying her. And she's always been a villain yo. Always. She also has no ties to Xavier. In the new Apoc movie they show that she saves Nightcrawler. Well, if ppl knew who she really was they wldn't like her very much. She's his mother. And his father is Azazel from First Class. She also tried to kill Nightcrawler by throwing him off a cliff when he was a baby. He was found and raised by the church and the circus. I get that things change from the comics to the movies, that's cool. But changing the entire character altogether..?? Nah that ain't right bruh. Doesn't matter who's playing the character, they shld keep it true to the source material

As usual, appreciate this channel's positivity. 2 things I would suggest that might have made this movie better than mediocre. 1. Magneto. Charles give his best rousing Patrick Stewart speech to turn Eric back to the light... and Eric's like "Yo, what took you so long? Great speech though!" Refusing Apocalypse would be a death sentence, so Eric only pretended to join, and wait for the right moment to rejoin the Xmen. I can imagine his taunting Apocalypse: "I've already lived through one holocaust. Did you really think I would be party to another? Fool!" 2. Apocalypse stealing Charles' power has an unexpected side-effect. Apocalypse also becomes paraplegic like Charles! He can still use telekinesis to move around, but his followers see this as weakness and abandon him. Picture Charles mocking Apocalypse "Having a little trouble there? You're welcome to borrow my wheelchair!"

@@callmeshaggy5166 I think you misunderstood what I was saying. This comment is three years old so my X-men knowledge has waned, but when I said the new timeline I *meant* the timeline after the retcon of DoFP. Since in X2 we see Kurt, but obviously that’s not canon anymore because of DoFP, so my fear was that since the timeline has changed that would possibly allow for Kurt to be killed off. This fear has been pretty nullified considering that he didn’t die in dark Phoenix. Plus I’ve lost interest in the series, so I don’t really care what they do at this point.

A minor problem I have with the comics is that other than Claremont, the writers seem to think that Nightcrawler can't be funny and religious at the same time. He's either fun with no mention of his faith (which is fine because who brings up the fact that they're Catholic all the time?) Or he's super grimdark religious. For Apocalypse, the fans were given a more light-hearted Kurt with a nice nod Who to his faith as well. It accomplished what none of the cartoons or even many of the comics haven't so far. What I'd really love to see next is the confident, sexy, duel-wielding (or tri-wielding) swordsman. is also religious and funny.

Actually there's 3 group that hates this movie, 1) x-men fan because they change a lot of Thing in this arc. 2)marvel fan Who keep trolling "fox give x-men back to marvel. 3)people who refuse heavy storyline compare to marvel studios movie which is easy for kids understand. For me fox x-men is balanced between marvel and dc movie because fox has funny jokes and serious dark moment. Marvel studios lack serious dark moment maybe a few marvel movie has that for example hulk/ironman 1. While dc is more into serious moment which May give parent not enjoy with thier kids except the old pre dceu.

Jo Vonn, I don't think he could have stopped them instantly, or else he would have. Apocalypse had a lot of power, but he was not truly a god. He relied on people around him to assist him. This makes me believe that he had limitations that were not fully explored. Yes, he was able to eviscerate humans. However, we never saw him do this to mutants. Perhaps those powers do not work against mutants. Perhaps he required rest and recharge. If he was ever truly as unstoppable as you claim, then the only plot satisfying ending would have been for him to win and kill everyone. I don't buy that.

Jo Vonn, considering that the comic has the Phoenix save the day in a massive ex machina moment, I would say that the difference is minor. Character age changes? Who cares? It's an alternate telling. Since they didn't dive too deeply into his character, it doesn't seem to matter much. Maybe Apocalypse should have put up a bigger fight and done more destruction. Maybe he could have killed off a few characters. However, considering that the comics didn't have the balls to leave anyone dead, and had Phoenix simply alter the universe as if the events had never happened, do you think Hollywood is going to go darker and leave bodies on the deck? The simple truth is that the comic ending would have thrown off most people as being cheap. Especially considering that they offered nothing so far to make anyone believe that the Phoenix could be a positive force. Instead they left the idea that Phoenix is the same evil seen in the previous movies and that Charles had to reluctantly force Jean to tap into it because he had no other choice.

Jo Vonn, I admit it had some holes, but most of what you are complaining about happens in every adaptation. Considering how often comics are ret conned, I think you are stretching to complain about all the ways this was different than the version of the comics you like.

Jo Vonn, I agree that he should have had a moment with Magneto. I was quite disappointed by that and it seemed to alter the flow of the character within the movie itself. The rest though... You can argue that they were bad character changes. I might agree with you, but they made sense in the movie. That's what's really important. Unlike say, The Force Awakens, which might make lots of sense if you read the book but was a jumble of bullshit on screen.

Watching this video, I could see a few things that diehard fans would certainly be upset about, like Psylocke only having her blades and not her telepathy, or the Phoenix Force STILL being passed off as a natural part of Jean's powers instead of an outside force, but beyond that I fail to see the reason for the hate.

+Jo Vonn Well, what would YOU do in this situation? X-Men 1, 2, and 3 were jam-packed with mutants, and you couldn't put Havok in there with everyone else. Then X-Men: First Class comes around and another director decides to put Havok in it because they need a new cast of mutants. And Cyclops isn't in it because of X-Men Origins: Wolverine established he was about 12 in that timeline. PLUS, if you were to make Cyclops Havok's older brother ANYWAY, Cyclops would be about 60-70 in the epilogue in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

I know it's a really weird thing to focus on considering all the other brilliant stuff in this movie, but I really loved the dude that played Caliban and I'm kind of sad they've recast him for Logan. Something I would have liked to add to the film would have been shots of people helping others during the finale. I know it would have been difficult to do without breaking pace but I would have been great as a callback to Charles' message. And not just mutants helping humans, but maybe humans helping other humans, humans helping a mutant who was in trouble, a way of showing that 'those with power' doesn't exclusively mean mutants.

4:52 This scene was so heartbreaking. A nazi told him his father was dead and his mother got killed in front of him. Then his wife and daughter were both killed in front of him, and he couldn't do anything. He asks Apocalypse "Where were you when my father and mother were slaughtered in this place?" The way he says it just shows that he never forgave himself for their death. He always thought they died because of him. Then when he destroys Auschwitz, you can see the look of fear and awe in everyone's face. Even Apocalypse. Even he wasn't expecting that power from Erik. Then when he yells, you can see and feel his pain, his guilt, and the thought that he can't love anyone, in fear that they would be taken from him. The pain and anguish he released was the most heartbreaking thing I have ever seen

I liked this movie. Even if most hated it, I was pleased with it. I even have the unpopular opinion of like it more than DOFP. I was saddened that you didn't mention quicksilver beating on Apocalypse because that was my favorite scene in the movie. I also liked how apocalyptic Apocalypse was. He was a scary villain. The scene with the nukes sold him to me. Plus it seemed like you caught something honest trailers didn't. Even if you didn't like the villain, the movie wasn't about him. It was about getting the X-men together. Apocalypse, as threatening as he was, he was not much more than a means to that end.

Shane W I respectfully disagree. None of the new breed felt particularity compelling, and the veterans either got nothing to do (i.e. Xavier) or were thrown in reductionist storylines. The first act was far too long, the second act was one set piece, and the third act wasn't particularity compelling. The action was good, as was the acting, but barely any meaningful character work plus pedestrian dialogue from a first-time unassisted Simon Kinsberg on scripting duties led to what was for a me a wholly unsatisfying movie.

I look to the suggested videos on my right and always four or five out of the ten are "wrong with" "why sucks" you're show is a breath of fresh air. I liked this movie, were there mistakes? yes. I can't stand Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, but as you pointed out she was forced upon us by the studio. best depiction of Nightcrawler yet, and since this takes place after DOFP that Wolverine scene is how he would be Great cameo there.
