Let's not forgot that this movie was so directionless, they actually filmed an alternate ending in which Rogue decided to not go through with the cure, and it ends with her taking Bobby's hand with her gloved one. It was very late in the game when they decided which one to use.

I respect your opinion, it is interesting to read, and proof that something can appear very different to different people. I personally feel she plays this role too timidly/quietly, not enough energy into the performance. Like she has no presence. Is the portrayal true to the comic book character? Halle is awesome but I'm totally not feeling her performances in the X-men films.

@@BenjiSunActually, the only reason she came back is because the studio created a fake script that was heavily Storm-focused. And they said once she signs on, they’ll change the script to give her what they always intended. This is why Matthew Vaughan dropped out as the director of Last Stand. And he’s gone on record discussing this.

Let’s be honest, it’s a religious movie based on a story from the Bible. Even with the voice acting being amazing and the animation beautiful it’s not going to be shown or talked about much besides from people like us because networks and the minority groups of anti religion don’t want it getting the praise it deserves.

When you pointed out the show of power by blasting open the door you missed she wasn't disintegrating it and decided to just bust it instead. She disintegrated the center of it which is the sealing mechanisms for the door. Thus, she was breaking the seal so she could cleanly blow it out. Powerful, intelligent, and controlled. Even more chilling. I forgot this movie had such a level of detail what with the script and poor acting by some of the cast.

I have something called "Sensory Processing Disorder". The result is that my senses are all stronger than they're supposed to be. American cheese has the flavor intensity that a sharp cheddar is supposed to have. If I eat movie theater popcorn, my mouth continues to taste salty for at least a week. Etc... There are pros and cons to this difference. The cons generally have more to do with the senses being overwhelmed than anything else. Many food odors register as strong enough to trigger the reaction my body is supposed to have to putrid odors. My throat will close itself up, choking me; I'll get intense nausea; etc... Food is widely considered to be a very social thing in our society as well, compounding the issue further. My sense of smell is my biggest kryptonite. There was a medication that wound up in the news for damaging people's sense of smell. It was being recalled. Zicam, I believe. I found it still at the store, and was there for at least 20 minutes considering getting it. I ultimately chose not to make that purchase... But it was a hard decision to make. This movie came out after that point. I went into the theater not already knowing anything about any of the storylines used in the movie. Given how relatable some of the movie's themes are for me, I hate how reviled this movie is, and am glad to see it defended a bit on your channel. After seeing this and finding out that the movie's roots are in two separate comic storylines, I think it would've been better for both if they each got standalone movies instead of being crammed together, but it's better than not having made the movie at all. It's very rare for any movie to pull tears from me. Both of the movies that've done so have connected with me in a very personal way. Since then, I've been able to become a part of friendship groups that revolve around other social activities that aren't food, which helps a lot, I've identified more of the good parts of having super senses, and I've done some level of exposure therapy to reduce my body's negative reaction to some of the stronger food odors, so I'm doing a bit better than I was back then. I still only find three flavors enjoyable, but I can tolerate being near more foods than before, because my body reacts a little less intensely now than it used to. Thank you!

I'm on the other side of this. I also have SPD, but it presents itself through sound and touch. Some sounds almost feel like rats scraping my eardrums and has gotten so bad that it's morphed into misophonia, which can send me into panic attacks. Some touch is almost painful and also sends me into panic attacks (bad ones). I would love for there to be a medication that would get rid of it. My life would be so much better without this stuff. I really relate to movie Rogue in that way. It's cool how this one movie, as poorly received as it was, can hit people in such different ways, and sometimes with an intensity that no one else can relate to. X-Men in general is such an awesome franchise for people to see themselves reflected in the characters, especially if you feel or do have something that society doesn't understand. I may not be cool with my shit, but I'm really glad you've found peace with your SPD and are living your best life. It's pretty badass to have this less than ideal thing handed to you and still go "Well, this kind of sucks, but I got this. I'm good." Rock on with your bad self.

I've said it for years, if it weren't for Jean's Phoenix plot being shoehorned in, this would've been a 10/10. The Cure storyline is fascinating and is one of those brilliant "no real right answers" moral questions. I don't view the X-men using it against Magneto as them being against their beliefs, it just needed to be done. This entire movie, Magneto is constantly showing how insanely powerful he is, from singlehandedly destroying the convoy, to throwing cars around, the the fucking incredible bridge scene, it was just clear: if they wanted to take him down, it had to be done. Exceptions are what make the rule, and someone as powerful as Magneto is that exception. I especially love Logan's take on it. "If you want to do it, do it. Just make sure you're doing it for you, and not for someone else" Brilliant message, and honestly it works even more in the modern day, since X-men have always been an allegory for current issues.

Plot-wise I don't remember having any big complaints about it even the Juggernaut bitch scene didn't seem too horrificly out of place. I didn't have a lot of high praise for the initial X-Men trilogy because although the second one was quite good the trilogy is a whole felt kind of loose and dreamy I guess would be a good way to describe it. @@intheclear3492 I think all X-Men fans want that, because more mutants is more interesting (especially ones as well known and loved as Rogue), but Cinema Wins has a point: Movie!Rogue has every reason to want the cure. Movie!Rogue's powers have severed her from her family, driven her to flee her home, caused Magneto to target her for kidnapping and effective human sacrifice in X1, and of the only two friends she's made in mutant society, her powers are again driving a wedge between her and Bobby, while Logan has made it clear that he is OK with either decision. Taking the cure makes perfect sense for her as a character. It is a bit thematically weird with the whole mutants=queer allegory the series was running, but I can put that down to an overly ambitious screenwriter who thought they could insert more nuance into the story than it could really get away with. In a deeper, less "primary colours" sort of movie, Rogue could represent a person who decided their religious/family/cultural identity was more important than their sexual orientation or gender identity, and who recanted their coming out and went back to their old life. An interesting and nuanced character arc, but one that doesn't gel well with how archetypal the rest of the movie ended up being.

One thing that the film didn't really explore properly, and where the themes get mixed up, is the idea of mutation as allegory for disability. Mutation as an allegory for LGBTQ ideas works really well for X2, and the ideas around families rejecting their kids or not understanding their kids and them leaving for found families cuts deep for a lot of people who lived through that. X3 however, since it's about the cure plotline, should very much be about the idea of mutation as disability. Because really, mutants aren't one big group. They're two groups with the same origin who get lumped together by everyone else. There are those for whom mutation is something to be easily and unabashedly proud of. The stronger mutants are demigods and superheroes. However, there are many for whom, Rogue included, mutation is a disability. And the idea of curing that really clashes with a whole of bunch of personal identity ideals that people who are blind, or deaf, or on spectrum, can understand. When your disability becomes an important part of who you are, and you have an entire culture and identity built around compensating for it, the idea of having it 'cured' can be frankly offensive. Groups like Autism Speaks who focus on 'curing' and eliminating the disorders they claim to speak for are the same as the governmental villains who weaponise the cure. Unfortunately, the film doesn't get there in its themes, but there's a lot of potential in the idea.

Logan is not just a King in the way he fights. You can't get close to him, he threatens every space around him. Also, he can't die, or it's game over, for the Studio. Ultimately, the writers won't write a scenario where Wolverine is killed off (This early in the game) because it would kill the franchise. Magneto sacrificed his queen, earlier. Also, Kitty moves through the battlefield exactly the same as a Bishop.

"These 2 cars are real, these 2 are digital" Hey, I'll give props to the blending of effects being good enough I wouldn't even hazard a guess. But yeah, this movie really struggled from cramming about 2 movies of plot threads and characters into 1 jumbled mess. And then they did it AGAIN with the same comic storyline randomly crossing it over with not-Skrulls. And a big problem is neither had the preceding buildup. You get fiery bird at the climax of one movie, and then suddenly we're full-on Dark Phoenix next movie, TWICE. Please let us not try to adapt this story arc again, at least not until a proper establishment of the cosmic elements and what the Phoenix Force is, and even then I don't want it because I know how much groundwork that is and it ain't worth it. Don't even have X-Men in the MCU, I really don't even want them in the MCU because there's too many good characters to get the screentime they'd deserve, I think it will be a disservice to them. They're already a large enough team of great characters to carry their own movie series. So yeah, please, I don't think third time's a charm for Dark Phoenix, here's hoping that direction never comes up again.

Mutants in the MCU is an inevitability. The question is how they'll (try to) make it work. And I'm pretty sure it's possible to make a good Dark Phoenix movie, just not the way the same guy has tried to do it twice now...

i had just watched the movie 1917 and i can honestly say i got hit right in the gut hard with this movie. i would really love to see a video of you going over this movie and everything you like or dislike about it. i don't have a large enough vocabulary like you do to be able to express this movie. This is a movie i will never forget.
