I agree...the GM couldn't do anything at this point...the only thing that was left for her to do was too accept the truth... Lingyi wasn't going to risk Lianfang escaping punishment again because his mother refused to accept the truth. Think of it this way right? Being a nun means she could never marry again, never hold legal status as a concubine or wife of titled person..she has no money. Basically for a privileged/spoiled girl in those times that was a death wish. I imagine they decided to save face and not have her executed because it would look bad on them for letting her get away with it for so long.

She really do like him, since she agreed to become a concubine just be with him. She is very used to getting what she wants since young. So she believe she can do anything at all, to any measure, just to get what she wants.

They couldn't punish her harshly without destroying their entire family. The crimes she committed under their noses would make the Emperor doubt Lingyi's competence as a General. He would've lost his position as well as the family wealth for not being able to control his household. This was the best possible outcome for them. The biggest and harshest punishment is Lianfang knowing that she destroyed herself for a man that NEVER loved her...this little gem is worse than death.

Honestly I think the same rules should've applied to him as well...but the expectation the Emperor had for his officials were higher because they were the face of the government...and they represented him. Yes, that's why they reinforced the rules of the Xu family every chance they got... Lingyi's father and elder brother were framed by the Ou family...and the family was almost executed because of it... Lingyi was given the opportunity to redeem his family because of the contributions made by his grandfather. Lingyi feared that history would repeat itself so they became strict and rigid with the family rules. The GM nearly destroyed the family because she constantly excused Lianfang's behavior. If it wasn't for Shiyi stepping in during the moldy rice incident the entire family would've been executed. The GM was still covering for her...whenever Lianfang was involved the old lady would conveniently forget about the family rules.. Her double standards were apparent that's why Lingyi/Shiyi worked tirelessly to find irrefutable evidence against Lianfang...they knew it was the only way to get real justice. Yes, families of Imperial officials were given a greater responsibility...the strict rules were put in place to prevent corruption within the government...if they broke the rules of then the entire family could be executed. The Emperor wanted to ensure loyalty from his officials...these rules didn't stop corruption because men's hearts can be easily swayed when it comes to money and status....but yes this is how the imperial courts operated.

@@crystalw4030 true...but honestly with the GM I wouldn't be surprised if she told them to go easy on her...she might've been disappointed and upset at Lianfang's many crimes but I don't see her being cruel especially with her. Plus when Lingy visited her...she was still in an upright position with no real signs of injury...the same when she was at the convent...there were no visible injuries...and she was sitting in the upright position...It makes you wonder if someone stopped her from being flogged.

The Emperor would've punished him for not being able to control his household...if he can't control his own household how could he possible led an army? Lianfang is a legitimate daughter as well so they couldn't sentence her to death without causing major issues for the entire Xu family. She deserved to suffer for her crimes.

Sending them to be nun at a temple, is like a life sentence her remaining years will be hard.
