Hi, watching Vids while waiting for my R185sms + to arrive. I'll be mounting it on a spare B & D workmate. Normally buy Dewalt but Evolution gets some great reviews. Polite advice - remove dust bag when you cut metal - spark + sawdust don't mix.

Thanks Neill! Much appreciated. I need to do a follow up video really because it is a better. I checked the angles recently and 90 has stayed a perfect 90. What's more I've seen some other more expensive saws and there's play in them. There's not with this. A year on it's better than expected even when I filmed this. It's definitely one tool I don't intend to upgrade at any point. Even one of the major woodwork sites in America recommend it at this price point and I can see why.

I agree about the size being beneficial. Especially in the setup I have now. I've only got a small garage, 2.5m x 5m and I tend to use it outside the door and set it up when I need to. It's hanging by the door and due to the 3m lead I can just plug it in and use. It's relatively light too. I think for the few times I've had to do larger cuts it couldn't make, the size difference makes it worth keeping. I couldn't mount the larger one as I did this because it'd protrude into the room too far limiting access.

Good choice! I think that's what I should have got in hindsight. It's bigger but when you're doing those bevel cuts it'll be a godsend because the blade max depth really disappears fast when you change it to 45 degrees. It is bigger though but as long as you have the space it'll be great. I'm really impressed by how it's held up long term and I use it far more than I thought I would.

Hello young man, Having a quick look through your channel before I set off to repair an old cattle grid made out of some narow mining or similar railway line. I have the Evo S355CPS metal cutting saw which I bought last July. It has done a bit of work cutting through some chunky steel and it will get used today but powered via my welder generator so we will see how it fairs off a mobile supply? To be fair, Evo stuff is good quality for the price and having seen this review I might just buy one of those saws because it will do compound angles. Top review young man!

I've just bought the R210SMS and have to say that for the price you're getting pretty much a premium piece of kit, I didn't even have to do a set up on it, all the cuts were accurate straight out of the box.

@sawdustandsurvival Жыл бұрын
Excellent! That's really fortunate. I've still got this but have since ended up with a Bosch mitre saw too. It's heavier than the Evolution and I couldn't really identify much that it specifically does better. If anything, the flexibility of having the multi blade means I'd probably keep the Evolution if I could only have one of them.

Thanks! It's definitely a good buy. I must admit I'd love to try the 255mm model for a reason I'd not thought of originally- bevel cuts! When you tilt the angle of the blade, the extra depth would help with thicker pieces. Although you can't go wrong with either, keep an eye out for the new R255SMS+ double bevel. It looks incredible.

Ah thanks! I've just been using it today actually! I've got an 80t Saxton Professional blade on it for cutting new wood but also used the multi blade today too for chopping down a thin bit of steel to bodge 2 pieces of mdf together. Its really good! I recently made a work bench using it and it had so much use I thought I better give it a tune up but the blade is still at a perfect 90 so I can't fault it. I'd like to make a nice 0 clearance insert for it and for the Rage5s you recommended. I did take your advice and don't regret it at all. So glad I didn't spend 600+ on the Dewalt as everyone told me to. I'm going to get a new video out any day just doing a general update on things.

Hi Andy, been looking through some of your videos. Your doing some good work there, congratulations. I've had my Evolution R210SMS+ sliding mitre saw about 6 months now and I've only ever had one major problem with this saw and that's the fact that if any of your off-cuts happen to be just slightly smaller than a snooker cue, it will inevitably fall down into the channel below the blade.and you'll find that you are spending more time fishing them out with a variety of tools than you are cutting wood. I now have a zero clearance plate and the difference is immense, especially in the cut at the back of your stock. So Andy, could that be the subject of your next video ?
@sawdustandsurvival
@sawdustandsurvival 2 жыл бұрын
I'd have to make one first as I've never really had need to use one. I can definitely see how it could be a problem with smaller stuff though. I suppose the stock one has to cater for 45 degree cuts without nipping the edges.

Great video but I wouldn't use the saw on metal too many times or I guess the finish you'll get on wood will deteriorate.... I've just unwrapped mine (Chrimbo pressie) and had a couple of test cuts. I only needed to alter the laser a mm to the right as everything else was bob on

@sawdustandsurvival
@sawdustandsurvival Жыл бұрын
I think it depends on how large the piece is and how delicate. For example if cutting a 2ft length of wood, I probably wouldn't clamp. If it was a 2m piece of wood and I was cutting near the end, I'd want support. If it was a tiny piece I'd want a zero clearance plate. It all depends on the workpiece really.

Not sure if you can help, I know the max depth of cut is 65mm however what is the max depth of material you can insert (even if I need to add a scrap block of wood to clear the undercarriage). I need to make a trench cut (so to create a cross lap joint) so do not need the saw to cut the full depth of the wood i.e. I have a 45x95mm that I would like to make a 50mm cut into. Is this possible?

I'm impressed with that blade..... but what about the saw itself? How well built is it? How much play is there in the sliders? How accurate are the angle gauges? Any play in the hard stops? Etc.
@sawdustandsurvival
@sawdustandsurvival 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Sam, It's really well built. I've used every price range of tool from Aldi to Milwaukee and this feels premium to me. There's no play in the sliders at all. The angle gagues are spot on too, but you need to fine tune it yourself if you want it to be spot on. Once you've achieved the perfect angles by using a right angle (a square, speed square or I even used a maths set right angle) then you can readjust the marking indicators to reflect the true angle and you're good to go. I really like that about this and although it's probably in the video I maybe should have made more of a point of it. With a lot of saws, although you can make micro adjustments, you then have to keep these adjustments in mind with the gauge (so know that 1.5 actually is 0 say) but with this you move the pointer after adjustment and 0 means true 0. There are hard stops in all the usual mitre angles both on bevel and mitre although you can lock down at any angle you want with precision.

@sawdustandsurvival
@sawdustandsurvival 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not at home at the moment but if I remember rightly there's a button to press in before turning the nut which I think is to the right of the handle. And remember it's a reverse thread on the locking nut, so you'll need to turn the Allen key anti-clockwise rather than clockwise to tighten the nut. But that's generally the case on most of these and it's so that it tightens rather than loosens when spinning.

I know what you mean but I think it's just one of the down sides to it being a metal blade guard. Mine does it a little but it doesn't seem to affect performance. I know I'd rather there be a little rattle rather than have a plastic blade guard so I'm still happy about it.

I couldn't be sure because it would depend on the size of the work mate. At a guess I think it would though. You could also just use it on a bench top. This went as low as 105 in Black Friday sales so I'd wait to see if they do it again in the coming days. I'd also get the 255mm one (R255SMS+) because I wanted to do a mitre cut in a 2x4 the other day and I wished I had the extra depth.

I agree. I'm using an 80t with a decent reducer at the moment and it's good to be fair, but it would be better if it was 30mm so you didn't have to buy a reducer. I think it's mainly a marketing thing so that you can't put their blades on other saws. Also quite responsible in some ways as their saws apparently are tuned for lower RPM but higher torque.

Apparently it runs at a slightly slower RPM which is suitable for wood but also doesn't cause problems with other materials. The blade probably does most of the job, but it's difficult to put it on other saws as the hole is 1inch, whereas they're normally 20 or 30mm

Dust bag is rubbish, use vacuum. Sawdust looks much better on black. And lastly every decent tungsten carbide blade will cut plastic, composite and black nails., that's the TC what makes the job.. Only pluses are extra clamps, dust cover and longer wire. Everyone gets excited about cutting "metal" but evolution mentions in manual that it can cut mild UNGALVANISED steel.

I'm happy enough with it! To be honest I've now got an 80t wood blade in it so I get really fine cuts but switch to the multi blade for ratty old wood incase I hit a nail. In the longer term, I'm finding the thing that's impressing me is that despite lots of use, there's no play in the mechanism and I've not had to recalibrate it at all. 90 has remained 90 since I set it up.
