When you started naming off the plants that make up your feed hay it made my mouth water a little bit. I've never eaten wheat stalks, or oat stalks, but my mom used to make this delightful cold salad with sprouted wheat berries, sprouted oat groats, bean, peas, and pea shoots. She also added some other things but those were always kinda random. She made a nice lemon vinaigrette to dress that salad. Now I kinda want to make it.

I'm so sorry...but when you started naming the plants all I could think of was... 🎶 Mairzy doats and dozy doats and liddle lamzy divey / A kiddley divey too, wouldn't you? 🎶 😉

Thank you for trying no-till for your fields! I’m a college student studying soil management and no-till is one of the ways you can improve your soil and keep them preforming in the future

We ran into abortions this year for the first time. It was disheartening. But it did finally stop and we had a decent season after that.

Same here with the rain! The wheat is already dead on the sandy parts of the field ;( We forward contracted 84bu/ac :S As for the beans we usually plant with a 15" planter, but it broke down halfway through planting. (It uses three hydraulic driven motors to meter the seed, one was leaking like a faucet out of nowhere. The planter is old enough that the only replacement we could find had to come from China, aka three weeks.) So we had to use the air seeder drill. Gotta say the emergence from the drill was way more painful then we have ever had it with the planter. We still have some beans poking through while others are at 3rd trifoliate. Part of that is that we haven't had a real rain since planting, but still. The planter beans are side by side with the drilled beans and there is a huge difference. We have only used this one drill/air seeder for the past ~15 years so I can't say for certain, maybe other drills do a better job (it's a Flexicoil, late 90's). But it just doesn't do as good of a job at closing the seed slot as a planter and the soys needing so much moisture to germinate, plus later planting some years (May 22nd this year) when a good rain might be rare it makes a big difference for emergence. All that being said I think most research says the yield impacts are minor, but it looks so much nice and is easier for herbicide timings (we grow IP soys). Also it was stressing us out when they emerged so stagnated, never had that before and on a year like this a replant would have really hurt. It better rain soon, and a real rain. 0.5" or more please Long comment but just my two cents on what we have seen. Thank you for the vlog!

Thank you so much for this! We totally agree! The yield doesn't seem to be impacted at the end of the day, but we used to plant our soys, and emergence was so nice and even, so dealing with this frustrates us. Rain helps for SURE! We finally received a glorious 2 inches over the weekend.

This maybe a dumb question, but how to you make sure your breeding stock is "clean". Are their things you test for, or things you vaccinate your herd from?

So here in Ontario, the producers who have had their flocks tested (and cleared0 for serious diseases like Maedi Visna, are on a High Health Status list. I've been dealing with a few things in my flock... The biggest past issue has been Chlamydia (which is what I vaccinate for now and what we got tested for at the lab) . Other abortion issues can be Toxoplasma and Campylobacter... not sure on these ones for high health status as I feel it comes with environment surrounding the animals.

I have a question. My sheep unfortunately passed away about a month ago and i was wondering if you could help me figure out what caused my sheep to die. My sheep was only a few months old when he startedhaving a cough (in vlog #37 at the beginning, the cough in the video was just like my sheeps cough) and a few days before his death he did not want to move and had a lost of appetite and for water. It would be great if you or someone else could help me pinpoint the cause. Thank you!
@SandiBrock

I'd hate to make a guess at cause of death... The problem with sheep is that they keep symptoms hidden until often its too late... Coughs can come from pneumonia if ventilation was compromised... Other than that, I'd recommend to talk to a vet for some ideas on what it could be and how to prevent it in the future. I know I rely on mine often! Good Luck!

I’ve been going through the history of the channel which I just realised was distorting my already shaky relationship with time. I’m like “man these people are always going on holiday. I thought farming was too hard a job for that?” No you idiot (me) they’re taking a trip every year so so, you’re just absorbing almost a decade in a few months 🤦🏻‍♀️
