This approach makes a lot of sense to me. My goal for the year will be to eliminate all snacking after supper (6:00 pm) and have a workout before breakfast (9:30 am). I don't need to lose weight but want to mainten and improve overall health. At age 65 I'm paying the price for a lot of bad habits.

I just found your channel this morning. I’ve been watching through your videos. This is exactly what I need. I’ll be 67 next month. I have autoimmune issues, a kidney stone, migraines and had breast cancer surgery last September. They got it all with the surgery and I’m blessed. I never felt like I had cancer….no radiation or chemo. But the older I get the fatter and the sicker I get. I’m still young at heart and try to stay busy. The doctors are no help with my weight. I’ve tried almost EVERYTHING and it may work but only for a few weeks. This makes so much sense. I can wake up and not eat until the afternoon because coffee fills me up. But now I know what “clean fasting” is because of you! Thank you so much for sharing your journey. I’m going to do this and not tell anyone. My support group (family and friends) is great but they feel the need to give me too much well meant advice. But this something I need to do for myself. You look great and to know that you feel better is the best thing! So here I go…..Fingers crossed…… Subscribed after first video…❤

@@sandysteinbrook Thanks. I’ve begun to feel a little better and have shed a few pounds. The way I feel is the best part so far. I’ve always been a water drinker and crave it even more now. I’ll do as you suggest and stick with it. I’ll probably get off schedule from time to time but will get back on. I’m only human. Again…thank you for sharing your journey. Your videos and advice really mean a lot to me.

Thank you for this video. I've been doing IF, 23:1, OMAD, for 5 months now. I've lost 15 lbs. I realized after watching this I've also been doing it wrong in some ways. I wasn't sure before this video why I was having the pink Himalayan salt, but now I do! I still get some hunger pangs, but I use Perrier, coffee and tea to stop my stomach from rumbling. I feel very encouraged by your video. I have another 5 lbs. to lose! IF is my new way of life and plan to do it forever. Alzheimers runs in my family so I'm hoping to stop the chances of this happening by using IF. I also work out very hard each day using Youube workouts from Burpee Girl, and get at least 10,000 steps everyday.

The many other benefits of Intermittent fasting beyond weight loss is so important! I understand with Alzheimers in your family why you would want to do this. Good luck with the last 5 pounds. You can do it!

Each person has to do what is right for them. Doing a clean fast is what helped me to lose the weight and inflammation. But from everything I have read, once in maintenance mode, you can start to add things like whipping cream and coconut oil back in .

I went cold turkey last January after learning of this. My fast/eat window is approximately 20 hours fast/4 hours eat. I don't eat until I get home from work in the evening. Than, I have whatever I want, although i do actually try to eat well. It wasn't that hard to do, and I began to notice I was spending less on groceries and that my body fat was decreasing. I've been off the wagon a bit through the holidays, but am back "On" again. I'm a senior and live alone... which makes it so much easier as it is amazing what a social thing our eating is. You look great Sandy. Keep after it!

I tried IF at the beginning of last year, and I didn't know I wasn't supposed to use Stevia in my morning green tea. No wonder I wasn't getting the benefits I wanted! I did Intermittent Fasting last year and lost 20-25 pounds. I was then displaced due to home repairs (water heater leak & mold remediation) for a couple months and am finally resettled back in my home. Thankfully, I did not regain the weight I lost while out of my home. Since I’ve been back, I really have not gone back into IF like I should have but after watching your two videos on Intermittent Fasting, I realize I do need to put my health first. Thanks for the great videos along with being honest & upfront about IF correctly! Your comment on putting salt in your water was spot-on! It really saved me during my fasting periods if I started to get headaches or body aches. There is a pain response from your body when you start detoxing your body. I’m now subscribed and excited for new videos! Thanks again!

Having a plan is the best way to start! And you won’t feel deprived at all. Eat until you feel satisfied, not stuffed full. If I eat a really big meal for my first meal, I am not hungry until dinner, or I may just have an apple and some nuts in between. If I eat a smaller meal for my first meal, I eat 3 meals in that 8 hour window.

I’m going to try it AGAIN with your good advice. Bought the book also. Have already a few. Have no trouble not eating till noon, but do have trouble with doing the effort and nothing changes. I can put myself to doing things but I want results. Otherwise it’s out of the window faster than lightning. Listening to you I may have done things that kept me from loosing weight. The patience for instance. I now know that MAYBE it’s not going to work immediately for me and I have to have some patience. And maybe I may have done some things my body considered to be food. That I cannot remember. But anyway, thanks for the advice. I hope it’ll work this time because I only have to loose a few kilo’s but they HAVE to go period.

@@robbieb.3398, If you are eating a good evening meal with protein and soemhealthy fat, then you should feel satiated and not hungry. So are you eating out of habit, or out of hunger that late at night? If it is hunger, eat more at your last meal. If it is out of habit, you can change that. Thank you for sharing this and also using the same location, clothing, body position, and lighting in your before and after pics. I take meds that have to have food with them, twice a day 12 hours apart, but I've learned that this med could be taken 11 hours apart with no ill effects, so this may work for me since that would be a 13 hour fast. I'm still thinking but probably will give this a try. I lost 25 pounds (while very sedentary) at age 61 by cutting down the amount of food I ate, and I've kept it off for 28 months so far while still quite sedentary, but I'd like the additional health benefits that IF could give.

To be honest...it didn't just fall off of me fast. I know some people lose weight within the first week or two. I did not! That was not my experience. But, I read the book, "Fast. Feast. Repeat.", and she said to trust the process, that eventually I would see progress...so I stuck with it and the weight started coming off a pound or two a week. Granted, I didn't have ton of weight to lose. I assume it comes off quicker if someone has more to lose than I did

You gave me motivation to IF again. I always think it's too hard but I learned if you have drinks that are enjoyable it makes it so much easier. Hello, Alex! So....there is debate over herbs. Why don't you read the box and see if the ingredients is chamomile tea only. If there are any other additives, it is a no. Then just try it. Drink it in the evening and If you don't feel hungry later on, then you are probably just fine. Meaning, you didn't have a glucose response. If you do feel hungry though, then you are probably breaking your fast.

Hi! Thank you for sharing this. What about stevia for the morning coffee?
@sandysteinbrook
@sandysteinbrook Жыл бұрын
If you are trying to do a clean fast, then the stevia is a no. It will take you out of a fasting state. It will cause the Intermittent fasting to be harder. You will be hungry because it will stimulate an insulin response within your body and you will get hungry.
@jenniferlee7167
@jenniferlee7167 Жыл бұрын
Heavy Cream has no sugar and does not elicit an insulin response. You can use it in your coffee. I am a nurse and Dr. Eric Berg does the same thing and made a video about it. I lost 30 lbs doing IF and I also love iced black coffee and drink it often. I do not buy or use any flavors as they usually have sugar or a sugar-like substitute. I do about 16:8 as well but have done 20:4 as some KZfaqrs feel women need to fast longer. I am happy with the results and addicted to plain sparkling water! Love it!

I do eat a whole-foods, plant-based diet (also no oil, no sugar) and have for years now and I love it and find it easy to eat this way. Now I also incorporated intermittent fasting (16:8) for even better health and to lose just a few more pounds. I found the first day a bit hard but by the second day, I didn't even notice that I was coming up on the time I eat my first meal of the day (2:30 pm) until I realized the time. Wow, so easy! Can't wait for the months ahead so I can see results.

I wanted to do this after I watched your last video and am hoping it will help with the inflammation in my body among other issues. It's interesting you mentioned the arthritis in your thumb because over the holidays I was having a lot of pain in the joint in my right thumb and wasn't sure why. You may need to ease in to it. How many hours of fasting is that for you? I did not ease in to it. I went straight to 16 hours of fasting and goodness, I was so hungry! I maybe would start with 14 hours if I did it all over and work up to 16 hours. Your body will adapt and you will not be hungry after you get used to it, but it is hard in the beginning.

Hi Sandy… the past few days. I’ve watched a bunch of your videos and they have been a huge help. Thank you! My question is with regard to an organic Stevia powder that, according to the packaging, has 0 calories. I am if it does not work on this intermittent fasting getting used to black coffee without any sweetener is going to be a tough row! Lol.
@sandysteinbrook
@sandysteinbrook Жыл бұрын
Hi, Leslie! I am so glad you are here! I agree that it is tough to let go of the sweetener. I always drank honey in my hot tea every morning. After I got used to it, I don't miss it anymore. And if I do want sweeteners in my drink, I just drink it in my eating window. So as far as does stevia break a fast or not...according to Gin Stephens from her book, "Fast. Feast. Repeat.", that a sweet flavor profile on our tongues alone causes an insulin response. Which is why sucking uncanny can break a fast too. She posts the studies she references. But, I think it is going to come down to your personal preference. I personally got rid of any additives during the fasting period, but other experts say its ok. Who is right? I just know once I started a clean fast, my body started to change.

I too have been doing a lot of research as I consider trying this, and your videos have been extremely helpful. If flavored tea should not be consumed during the fasting window, does the same hold true for flavored coffee? (Keurig pods). I'm seeing mixed answers on this. Thank you.
@sandysteinbrook
@sandysteinbrook Жыл бұрын
I can’t answer that for sure. Usually flavor profile will cause an insulin response. I think you’re just going to have to try it and see. Drink it a few days and if you feel really hungry or shaky about 20 ish minutes afterwards, then you’ve had an insulin response. If you feel just fine, then you’re fine to drink it.

I've just found your videos Sandy, and am still watching / learning. My question is--what does a working-woman do? I have to go in to work by 8:30 and don't get home till after 5. Obviously I can't prepare or eat supper at work. So to eat only within an 8-hour period I must either skip breakfast or skip supper. If I skip breakfast--well, it doesn't sound like you recommend that and it messes with my digestion and regularity if I don't eat before I go to work (so breakfast is usually around 8 am). I have time for only a small "snack lunch" at work--whatever I can take with me (usually some fruit and a can of tuna or a cup of salad shrimp)--and often I even eat that at my desk after the "lunch hour" because I have to use my lunch hour to run various errands OR to do my daily 2-mile walk (which I can just finish in 40 minutes and then eat lunch and get back to work). Up until now I usually have for supper some kind of protein and a salad or veggie, and it was the "after"-supper snacking that put weight on me. Can your method work if it isn't "exactly" 8:16? What about 10:14?
@sandysteinbrook
@sandysteinbrook Жыл бұрын
Hello!! Yes, it will still work if you do hours that works with your schedule. I actually skip breakfast and start eating at 10 or 11am. But, if that messes with your body, you have to do what is best for you. We are all very different. I agree the evening time snacking definitely wreaks havoc on us. Our bodies need down time from constantly eating. A lot of people go 14 hours of fasting and are very successful! I think it will totally work for you. I was doing two big things wrong in the beginning. I was doing a dirty fast, which was hurting me. Once I started fasting clean, it made the difference. And also I was not eating enough protein each day.
