What TO and NOT to Eat to Break Your Fast/Intermittent Fasting

I was doing this wrong when I first started Intermittent Fasting. I share my mistakes so you can start of successful on your journey. It is best to break your fast with protein and high quality fats. Protein, fat and fiber are important in a meal to keep me satisfied and not spiking glucose levels and being hangry. We don't want a constant insulin response in the body.

I have been doing Intermittent Fasting for 4 years. I went from a size 18 to a size 4 in a year and a half. I think I lost over 100 pounds. I have kept off my weight. I started this way of eating slowly. For the first month my breakfast was at 2 pm and dinner was at 7 pm. I then increased my fasting hours. For example my first meal would be at 3:30 and my second meal would be at 6. I did this for many months. I worked up to only eating once a day. I don’t restrict myself calorie wise. I just eat what my body is craving, with in reason of course. I don’t gorge myself. I just eat until I’m full. I limit sweets. I usually have a desert once a week. I also make sure that I eat at least 1000 calories a day. The worst thing you can do is eat less than 1000 and slow your metabolism. I drink a lot of water during the day. I like the flavored watered such as LaCroix . I stay away from diet drinks. I have black coffee in the morning.

Sandy S Thanks you’re so precise and to the Points!! It’s a relief ands joy to absorb this whole synopsis!! I’m been dabbling with Intermittent Fasting for a couple years but now I’m more involved and keenly interested to the level I’m actually practicing with 16Hrs to 20Hrs and Doing an Eating Window of 8Hrs. I’m still tentative and learning form mistakes like you’ve pointed out and nearly or did feel my Blood Sugar Rise and did find myself again wanting to eat, not so much gorge but pick at the ones ie: cereal no good and since yesterday today I’ve corrected that style and ate my fibre , protein ,fats!! Sucess Here I’m definitely walking ahead with no turning back to diets , Yes, Yes, Yes, Truly a Lifestyle 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Yeah, you may need to. Get your body working harder a few days a week to really burn that fat. Don't worry about the scale so much. Gauge your success with how your clothes fit. I didn't lose any weight until almost 4 weeks. But it eventually started coming off, albeit slowly. But, this way I will keep it off. I also recently learned how incredibly important it is to be eating enough protein in a day to burn fat. I was under eating it. I just did a video on it that may be helpful, Patricia. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j9STfJao0q7MqWw.html

So, you can put granola on your oatmeal if that is the way you enjoy eating it just, make sure you have a lot more yogurt than granola and add some nuts and berries too for a rounded meal. A little granola for your enjoyment is ok.

Great video, thanks so much for this! I’ve been doing 16/8 also, since early January and have lost 6 pounds. I’m sure I would have lost more if I had seen this info first! My husband will not do this with me. He grazes all day and wanted pancakes for breakfast today. I made the big mistake of eating one and could tell right away I had done the wrong thing and I will not do that again! Next time he wants pancakes, I will freeze whatever he doesn’t eat and just do my own breakfast! I love scrambled eggs with garlic, peppers, onions and mushrooms, plus throw a few sprinkles of turmeric in. It keeps me full and then I only have dinner later, maybe an apple, orange or other fruit in between.

If I could take plain greek yogurt and put a bit of raw honey in there to sweeten that along with the nuts and chia seeds, I would really enjoy that. I really appreciate these videos Sandy:)

@sandysteinbrook
@sandysteinbrook Жыл бұрын
Do that! Add some raw honey to it. A little bit will not hurt you, just a lot would be bad. Sometimes people squeeze a whole tablespoon out of the bottle for a little bit of yogurt. I have fruit with it. The main thing is I use make sure that protein and a healthy fat are present along with fiber. I love to fry 2 eggs to put on avocado toast. I still eat a piece of bread when I break my fast occasionally. I just make sure it is like an Ezekiel Bread type so it isn't full of bad stuff.

Thankfully, many Americans are still in your category and will profit by following your example. Unfortunately, many Americans have become Insulin Resistant and need to restrict carbohydrates below 50/day to correct and become Insulin Sensitive once again. Plus those are the ones usually that provide the fiber as well, along with fruit and veggies of course.

Oh, I definitely eat carbs. I am not low carb. I eat tons of fruits and vegetables along with potatoes and healthy bread. But, for breaking a fast, if you don't have protein and some healthy fat and only eat a carb like oatmeal, it will spike blood sugar and cause your body to be even hungrier. I have done it. When I eat pizza by itself on a Friday night, if I dont have anything else like some protein and fat with it (like a salad with some sesame seeds, veggies and an olive oil dressing), than I am so hungry the next morning because the carbs weren't satiating by themselves.

I have learned that protein is the key to eat for breakfast. The issue with oatmeal is it spikes your blood sugar and whatever we eat the first meal of the day sets your metabolism for the rest of the day. I am just learning so much about protein. Here is a video I just did on eating protein to lose fat. Oatmeal isn't bad, its just best to eat it a little later in the day, or add plenty of protein to it. you could add chia seeds, flax seeds, protein powder, egg whites, nut butters....and it won't spike your blood sugar instantly. * Eat More Protein and Burn More Fat/You Need to Learn This: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j9STfJao0q7MqWw.html

Thanks, Sandy! This is very interesting. I'll have to go back and watch your other videos on this topic. I already eat dinner fairly early and then do not eat again until breakfast, so perhaps I can build on that. You mentioned that oatmeal is not good for breaking the fast. I usually eat oatmeal every morning (with fruit, but no added sugar). I really like oatmeal and I thought it had many health benefits. If I don't eat it for breakfast, could I eat it for another meal and still see good results? I would appreciate your opinion. Thanks for your videos. I do subscribe to your channel, but had not watched your other videos on intermittent fasting. The idea of fasting for health did not appeal to me, but I now realize this is quite different than I had imagined.
@sandysteinbrook
@sandysteinbrook Жыл бұрын
So, oatmeal will definitely give you a blood sugar spike because it is all carbs, but you are right that it does have healthy benefits. Either eat oatmeal for a different meal OR- just make sure you have plenty of protein also when eating your oatmeal. You enjoy it, so you don't have to get rid of it. Eat an egg also or add some nuts along with your fruit, or add greek yogurt or peanut butter to your oatmeal. Something else that is good is adding an egg white to your oatmeal. It makes it thinker and adds the protein that way, without tasting the egg at all. I learned that trick on the KZfaq channel "Clean and Delicious" By adding some protein and healthy fats, you will also feel full longer. I know for me when I have eaten oatmeal in the past, I am really hungry within 2-3 hours.

Thank you for the great info! When did you start to notice visible weight loss results after starting IF? It's been a month for me, and I have only noticed some inflammation on my wrists and ankles gone. I did not see any results until almost 4 weeks. I changed to doing a clean fast and things finally started working. It was actually more like 6 weeks before I saw any visible difference, and then it seemed like everything started happening for me! so let me encourage you not to get discouraged and stick with it. The book I read said it can take 6-8 weeks for many. Menopause makes it a little harder but just because we all have to go through menopause doesn't mean we have to accept weight gain as part of it. It just may take longer. I think you will start to see other benefits too.

I’ve just started IF in January, so I’m not an expert. But…my eating window starts at 11:00 and I break my fast with a hard-boiled egg (or 2 chicken sausages). Then I wait 20-30 minutes before I eat “lunch”, which typically I’m not super hungry by then. I don’t know if this is beneficial, but I feel like it helped me control my eating better! 😃

I think that is a great idea. You are breaking your fast with protein and healthy fats.

Hello, my IF friend! Thank you. I will continue to share videos. I just know that others will benefit from this lifestyle too. I actually had to go back and see what earrings I had on. I mostly buy my earrings at TJ Maxx

@@heatherrowe2979 Thank you, Heather! I mostly buy earrings at TJ Maxx. I also have found beautiful ones at Hobby Lobby if you have one near you. They are sold up by the registers.
