This is the rcvideoreviews.com tour of the Castle Creations Cast Link Software and the USB linker you need to interface with Castle products.
While I'm no expert on Castle ESC's (I only own one) I do know a thing or two about software and I'm hear to tell you the software interface and data log graphing tool is really really good--and free!
You may not need an elaborate suite of capabilities for all of your planes, but watch this video and tell me you can't see a use case for this capability on your nice planes or to help you sort out and dial-in your power design.
The graphing capability on power alone is a game changer.

@@RCVideoReviews apart from the fact helicopter settings are slightly different, I used castle link extensively after converting my Trex 600 Nitro to electric to achieve optimum performance and to keep check on the stats. Once I was all setup including the throttle end points and governor I had no need to return to the software.....

Never looked at Castle products, so thanks for the overview. I like your “setup” use approach and was wondering if it is beneficial to use the Castle ESC on the Judge to compare the data output on the lcd vs the data-log on the ESC. I also like the dynamic vs static comparison feature...provides peace of mind knowing the right ESC is being used. Thanks for sharing!

I definitely should try it on The Judge for a couple of runs to compare. I really want to check that static dynamic argument out though. See what the gaps truly are. They’re spendy so not for all planes IMHO but could be a very valuable setup tool.

Is it possible to control the castle phoenix controller with an Arduino or Raspberry? using C or python ? Do you guys have any links about that?

Only auto seting can set end point for throtle. When I set fixedend point . Motor not running when stick was down. Motor running only when stick was 3/8 in forward.

Yeah, their calibration process leaves alot to be desired.

You have to specify the number of poles the motor has so it can give you the correct RPM.

There’s been a lot of issues with castle esc’s in helis they seem to like to catch on fire lots of people have gotten extremely mad with them. Helicopters draw a lot more amps also. I’m a hobbywing guy. Heli motors can turn up to 250,000 revaluations a flight.

Oh yeah, I could see how that would get someone'd BP up. Dave flies these exclusively on his 2m pattern plane and his 63" Acuity. If anything catches on fire, you'll get the first warning credit! :)

txkflier helicopters always use a fixed throttle 99% of people use a governor either by way of esc or external gov. I’m just referring to the many posts I’ve seen in fb groups and on msg board helifreak I actually have zero experience with Castle creations.

txkflier the old V curve is a relic of the past especially with most esc’s offering gov mode now. The only helis that I’m using a V curve with is my micros because they don’t have any gov mode. Of course I have no idea what kind of helis you fly like scale or flybared but I only use hobbywing esc’s and they have excellent gov mode and are easy to setup. How is the transition from 3D heli to 3D airplane ? Easier?

txkflier haha I hear ya everyone has there style that they enjoy to each their own. Now don’t get me wrong it’s not like I’m a hardcore 3D flyer I’ve only been flying helis for 2 1/2 years but for myself I find flying patterns a bit boring and I enjoy pushing my limits to learning new things. For me I guess the 3D flying is more of being in total control of a heli that looks out of control to the average spectator I get excited every time I pull off a new trick or master one I’ve been working on.

txkflier haha I got a laugh out of that comment but I agree they are dangerous especially if you don’t know the guy flying. I’ve heard of them referred to as flying lawnmowers before lol.

I adjust auto calibration end point . On 6S Lipo is OK . But when I want use 2x 4 Lipo in serial connection ESC dont count Lipo. I make this way. Hull throtle ,connect Lipo and ESC count Lipo . By 6s all OK , by 2x4 serial Lipo not count.
