Thank you as always. I am 70 and still working mainly for my health insurance. It does not pay for weight loss drugs so I am out of pocket ,using a compounding pharmacy. The news about Medicare possibly paying for these medicines is encouraging. Health care coverage is my biggest deterrent to retiring right now.

Hello both, i'm from the UK and pay £189 ($240) for 10mg of Mounjaro per 4 weeks. This is NOT subsidised by our NHS or insurance companies. I looked on with astonishment when you mentioned how much you in America pay for your GLP1's. Should also say we have no compounding in the UK. Great channel, and thanks for keeping me informed of all the current news.

I wish the powers-that-be would take on the food industry. Get right down to the source of the problem. (IMO).

This is Christopher Obesity is a disease! The contributing factors can be classified into environmental and societal and genetic. It is a complex and layered conversation. While the food industry and our food culture has a lot to be responsible for and a lot that should be changed it is simply a contributing factor and not the source. Yes I would love to see strong regulation on our food industry, ingredients and processes. No I do not believe that it is the source of obesity.

@@thedownsizedabsolutely! You are correct. Obesity is a disease. I guess when I was writing I was thinking about the adage “genes load the g*n and (food, alcohol, dice whatever) pulls the trigger”. The majority of us are not getting fat off of broccoli, but we are gaining from the hyper-palatable , calorie dense, food-like substances that are on the grocery shelves. I think if we never got to where the disease is activated, that would be ideal. Like you said, so Multi faceted, but everyone has to eat, so it’s a basic place to start. And yes, having affordable medication/treatment once it happens is also the goal! Love your show, it’s all good!

I am using a compound called “SUBSEMA”. You take it under your tongue. It costs $279 per month. My doctor has started me on the lowest dose, so that would make it last two months. I’m also walking most days and lifting weights 2 to 3 times a week AND concentrating on 100 grams of protein a day. So far so good. Appetite is suppressed and no side effects but it’s been less than a week. My challenge will be turning down highly caloric foods, which is what got me to this point, obviously……

We have seen some of those oral versions advertised by compounders and telehealth. Why did you choose that over the semaglutide or tirzepatide injections? With all the buzz about safety from the FDA and Manufacturers, Please ensure you use a safe, reputable compounding pharmacy and licensed physician. I am curious why the sublingual vs the injectable?

Great information Ya’ll!!! It is great that they have approved another GLP-1, specifically a ‘generic’ one. While it could make the meds more accessible…~$500…is it really that much more accessible? My opinion is just one, however unless there is a great incentive for Novo/Eli Lilly to reduce their price, it isn’t going down any time soon. The incentive could be, you aren’t getting your building permits for your large pharmaceutical warehouses unless you offer the meds at no more than 20% average over what you offer it for in other countries. Or, we will canx your US patent if you don’t drastically reduce the cost. Or, we will give you a blank tax break for x amount of years if you lower the cost to $400/month for Americans. There is a way to get this done. We just have to someone in the right Congressional position that will truly spearhead and follow through with this initiative. Hopefully that is Bernie, but we’ll see.
@thedownsized
@thedownsized Ай бұрын
You are correct - I would not pay that for it Interesting idea - building permits however are a local function and would not be controlled by the feds. It could be done with federal tax penalty or some other enforcement mechanism

Yes there is - Bernie committee did wonders with the price of insulin - so there is hope I suspect the federal trade commission will get involved eventually - there is a growing argument that the predatory pricing is caused by non competitive practices and the duopoly of Lilly and Novo

@@thedownsizedHmmm…FTC action generally prompts action. That would be positive for us. Also, did you catch the latest drug Lilly is launching for Alzheimer’s ~30K/year for treatment. I could see a potential push to make this drug more accessible as well, specifically because it was indicated (by the news) that it would be covered by Medicare.

Unfortunately the price is not great even for this. It is generic because the branded patent has expired and other companies can now make it. In this case the price is still high What word is it is not as effective as others and the same cost or more

I have just subscribed and will begin the tirzepatide "adventure" next week. I am confused about all the powders and supplements that are recommended, such as collagen peptide, protein whey powder and fiber supplements. I've looked through your video list for a video on this but cannot see any information. Can you please advise what is recommended in the way of powders and capsules and supplements? Thanks so much.

This is Christopher - Thanks for watching. We have built out a store that shows you the things that works for us.I will attach the link. But nothing is mandatory. Start the medication give it a few weeks, eat real food (protein, meat seafood, beans, yogurt, etc), eat fiber (fruits, veggies, etc) drink water, take a multivitamin and then add what your body needs. None of the extra products are requirements - but you may find them useful. Have fun on your adventure and remember its a marathon not a sprint. thedownsized.org/downsized-store/

@@thedownsized Thank you. I understand. What I do not understand, and that may come with time, is why and how and how often are collagen peptides and protein whey powders and fiber concoctions utilized? Is it all guess work? I mean, do we learn as we go? Are they all taken every day? Or only when it appears necessary? I'm sure I'll figure it out but, as a neophyte to dietary supplements, it all seems Greek to me here at the beginning. 🙂
@thedownsized
@thedownsized Ай бұрын
@@rhondalyn100 the reality is you may never need any of them. The protein will depend on what you eat. Some people like the protein supplements and powders because they do not get enough protein in the those regular meals. Weightloss can cause muscle loss so the goal is to slow or prevent that. Protein helps - meat. Fish, beans, yogurt etc. some people have a hard time getting the 80- 100 grams of protein that are generally recommended based on your body weight. So the supplement with the protein powders. The fiber, mag 07 and miralax are all for constipation and are dependent on your digestion. Many people have constipation. Laraine has a video coming out next week about it and several videos on what she eats. Start simple and addresses the side effects as they come take a good multivitamin and drink water You will be ok
