This Resistance Band Workout for Seniors | Lower Your Blood Sugar will build muscle to help lower blood sugar and help seniors over 50 stay mobile and independent.
In this workout, we use resistance bands with handles and mini bands. We will aim for 10-12 repetitions of 10 exercises that target the upper and lower body and core. You'll also work on improving your balance with the lower body moves.

Strength training is important to build muscle and increase bone density for seniors to prevent falls, the number cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries among older adults. Strength training also provides many benefits for individuals with prediabetes, including improved blood sugar control, enhanced insulin response, reduced risk of type 2 diabetes, weight management, and overall health improvements.
The American Diabetes Association also recommends strength training for people with type 2 diabetes to help with blood sugar control. Additionally, studies show that strength training is as effective as aerobic exercise at boosting how well the body uses insulin.
Strength workouts build muscle and help the body become more efficient at transporting glucose from the bloodstream to muscles. After exercising, muscles will continue to use glucose and blood sugar may be lower for several hours.
Aim for two strength sessions a week covering all muscle groups with at least two days of rest in between. For optimal health, this should accompany 150 minutes of cardiovascular exercise per week, such as walking.
Estimated calorie burn for:
🔥 A 120 lb (54.4 kg) person: 55 calories
🔥 A 200 lb (90.7 kg) person: 91 calories
Please note that these estimates are rough calculations and don't take into account individual variations, such as fitness level and other factors that can affect calorie burn. Additionally, these estimates include the calories burned during the exercise itself and do not account for the calories burned at rest or through other activities throughout the day.

Thank you, like your band routines to help in building strength. I had shoulder surgey about 18 months ago and have had difficulty gaining strengh. Have done these for a few days and I feel they are helping. You're both FABULOUS!

I loved this workout! I usually don't like using resistance bands, but I liked these moves and they felt very good - especially the ones for the core. I'm dealing with a lot of arthritis in my right shoulder, which does make some moves more difficult because of pain...I try to modify those. Thank you for continuing to come up with creative and interesting workouts to keep us motivated and growing in strength!

I love your videos. What exercises are good for back fat and abdominals (also known as midriff bulge? I'm not sure if back fat comes with age (I'm 75), or can I diet better and exercise it away?

Hi there! We're so happy you enjoy our workouts! Losing pounds at your waist, back, and overall occurs when you decrease calories through a healthy diet and burn calories with exercise. If you have done our high intensity interval training (HIIT) workouts (bit.ly/3MbznVl) with moderate intensity, you are working on blasting fat! HIIT workouts burn more calories/fat in a shorter period of time -- they include raising and lowering your heart rate in intervals such as 30 seconds of exercise -- at the end of an exercise interval you should be a little out of breath. I recommend doing HIIT workouts 1 to 3 times a week with at least one day of rest between each session to let your body recover. Also, I recommend doing strength training (like this resistance band workout) to build muscle overall including your abdominals and back muscles. I had a stroke in December 12th 2021 what can I do to make my left leg hand arm get better it's been 2 years ago plus I got another blood clot in my left leg now so it really hurts me to walk around around now please give me advice to help you out thk yu

The resistance bands around the legs were hurting so I couldn’t continue. Was I doing something wrong? If I tied too loosely they dropped.

No, you're not doing anything wrong. When you tie the band and have tension on it, it does apply pressure to your leg. The key is to find the right length so there is constant tension but not too tight. It may be better for you to use the mini bands that are wider and may feel more comfortable. ❤️
