exhaust Temperature Too low caused by faulty new diesel particulate filter fitted to this Ford Transit MK8 2.2

Brilliant mate all it is is common sense if you don't understand how it works you can't fix it iv repaired loads of these things and you my friend are spot on its a pleasure to watch someone who knows what he's on about

Hi im an automotive tech, only really have experience in gas diag. I was thrown for a loop when my boss gave me a ford transit diesel. Code is p240a exaust gas temperature sensor bank 1 sensor 2 below desired value. Tomorrow i will check the function of the vaporizer and possibly swap the temp sensor 2 with 3. HUGE learning curve going from a gas to diesel

I love these video's. I'm having problems with smoke coming from a Lexus IS 220d I just bought. Subsequently I've had to learn about the DPF system to try and work out the problem. Every time I watch one of these video's I learn enough to be able to isolate problems and have some idea of what is going on. I hope you might see this and be able to answer this question. My suspicion is it's a bad DPF pressure sensor. I think it is telling the ecu to set off the vaporiser at the wrong time causing a lot of smoke. Every time I disconnect the battery the smoke stops for a day or two. Would disconcerting the battery reset the soot level to zero?

I had the same issue and it was the fuse for the vape valve in the engine bay

They usually blow again soon if you put a new fuse

@ORileysAutos I meant after we changed the vape valve sorry. It was firing diesel into the exhaust and not igniting it due to the fuse being blown. So I was led to believe anyway. I'm sure you'll sort it out 💪

Hi Jimmy. Is the egr maybe not fully closing causing dpfvto not reach 600 with vaporiser on?

It wasn't smoking like this until he fitted the aftermarket dpf.

The 2.2 transits when the vaporiser is on in regen EGT11 (pre cat) should be 440-450C. EGT12 (preDPF) should be around 580-600C, and EGT13 (post DPF) should be 630-645C. Poor temp rise on EGT12 would indicate poor quality/quantity of metals or damaged cat/dpf, assuming all else is good like vap working, throttle body and egr closing properly during regen etc. The cat is close coupled to the DPF so aftermarket DPF means aftermarket cat.. Been there before with aftermarket on transit, no good. Go to ford they do a ford reman unit for 800 and will give you 300quid off that for your old core even if its an aftermarket one. Reman one is perfect, no white smoke at all. hope this also helps someone like Jimmy it stops them going aftermarket route as its bad news.

EGT11 also known as CAT1. EGT12 = CAT2. Pre 2013 early EUR5 there was no EGT13

I've got a bad case of ash blocking my dpf,do you recommend buying a new dpf or let the garage try and clean it I'm leaning towards buying the dpf I have heard horror storys in regards to baked in ash

@@ORileysAutos rac came out to me and told me the codes were to do with ash. When I Finnish work I will give you the codes if you like I would appreciate youre advice.its a Mondeo 2.0 litre diesel. It won't do any more regens due to the ash build up

Bit of a broad statement… I’m in Bristol, and there are 3 different members of the DPF Doctor network within short distance or good independents like BAE & DTM. Jimmy seems like a reasonable bloke, give him a call rather than free advice in the KZfaq comment section.

@@SouthGlosAutoElec I'm in Devon mate all these dpf specialists around here are pretty useless tbh I'm going to have to bite the bullet and get a new filter. And not at all this could help others. I'm glad of his advice and knowledge wait till you see my codes I've already told you what Mr RAC man said
