LMFAO! Me and my buddy BOTH fell asleep during the first 20 minutes! The only thing good about this was the Pizza Hut that we ATE! We BOTH fell asleep! This was a terrible film and we got our money back! YES INDEED. We both got our money back! It was that bad!

I was so disappointed that some of the stuff from the trailers were removed. The "i dont wanna go to hell!" practically sold this movie for me in the trailer because it gave me chills. I was also really disappointed that the girls went from "sorta possessed" to "SUPER possessed" with barely any build up. In the original, we go through 3/4 of the film just watching Regan and Chris get terrorized by this inhuman spirit until she's finally completely taken.

As disappointed as i was with this movie, the parts with flashing images were pretty damn scary! Maybe it might have happened a bit much but still some of those shots looked scary as hell. And i praise those girls! They did an awesome job!

Pazuzu felt like he got game these last 50 years . The Location of George Town in the original film felt so creepy and atmospheric… here it felt like Haddonfield from the Halloween trilogy . Was waiting for Michael and Corey to pull up on a motorcycle together .

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I'm totally confused. First, to bring Ellen Burstyn back just to blind her was really disappointing, and with Chris's knowledge of Exorcisism,(sp?) to go into Katherine's room, alone was pretty stupid. Katherine, being dragged to hell is so sad as well as confusing.

The movie was ridiculous trash! The big reveal in the end was that the dad asked the doctor to save his wife..a wife who is not important AT ALL so nobody cared 😂😂

It wasn't a great movie by any stretch but I agree, for a supposed 'expert' in demonic possession and seeing what the demon did to the priests that were helping Regan, I didn't get why she would go into the room alone and start yelling at the demon. Just dumb, lazy writing and a quick way for them to write her out of the rest of the movie for the most part.

Kathrine being dragged was predicted to me demons are tricky so when they said choose one and the father said I choose kathrine he didn know he was choosing her to be sacrificed not to survive just like the blk father choose his wife and she died….. y’all have to remember this movie was based off of a ritual not a exorcism….. everyone was working to let the demons to wreak havoc on earth not to compel the demon

Agree with all the points here, and also just hated the spoonfed message of “it’s about people, and we need to come together, and love each other”. I don’t have a problem with that message, but I do have a problem when it’s spoonfed and blatantly put into a cheesy monologue

The fact that they brought back Ellen Burstyn to reprise her role from the original movie and just wasted her like that with very little screentime and not even significant to the plot it's just a disgrace, you erase her from the movie and it wouldn't make any difference. I mean, hello this is Ellen Burstyn, one of the greatest actress ever who starred in the original classic, a Triple Crown of Acting winner. How the hell they wasted her like that is just baffling to me, makes me upset! The trailers shows that she's going to have a big role yet turned out it was just a thankless serviceable role, what a giant marketing scam🤦

It's because she didn't want to be in the movie in the first place, Producers begged and doubled her salary for the role. In which she donated most of it to charities in New York.

Still, as bad as this movie was, at the very least they should use her very well, this is just extremely desperate. In the last two terrible Halloween movies, you get a lot of Jamie Lee Curtis scenes at the very least, this is just pure desperate

Wow I'm at a loss of words for this movie. Not only was this movie bad, but to make it worse the ending was ruined because my theaters audio cut out. This movie could have been something special. The first half had me LOCKED IN and they completely dropped the ball. Also I just wanna say thank you for all these amazing videos 3c you gave me a love for cinema.

You can't please everyone. it's hard to please fans who won't move on to something new. Just as difficult to please the younger generation as they are already desensitized to most of this. The point to that mattered to me was ☝️was the story line convincing ?? Or did it make sense ? ☝️ was the acting solid ☝️were the scary or creepy parts effective at all. ☝️was the relationship between characters and their conflicts convincing ?? ☝️how well did the movie pace itself ?? I think this movie got a solid rating for all of those things. One of those things I did appreciate was the conflict later on revealed by the daughter of the father. She was effected by his decision to save the wife instead of her. It added a phycological conflict that put their relationship in some sort of jeopardy. it wasn't the daughter telling him though. It was the demon as a mediator between them instigating. The tears were of his daughter but the demon was telling both the daughter and the father of what it knew. The daughter was just nearly finding out as her soul was being held hostage from within. The relationship the father and daughter had felt convincing and the conflict he had as a widower was impactful. His stowick performance reminded me of that inner conflict father karris was dealing with regarding his faith and there the lack of. The father of the daughter did not believe in God, the devil because his wife which was all the good in his world was taken from him. Even though Katherine is the background character supporting actress I feel her performance really stuck out. She did really great at acting. I mean it really brought it home and she reminded me of Linda Blair in a sense. I'm glad they casted her to keep the audience feeling as if there was this familiar presence which grappled them down to the realization that this is connected to the exorcist universe. Not only the casting but the FX makeup they used wasn't anything short from reminding you that it was connected to that franchise. Yes I would have preferred Ellen Bernstein's part be a bit longer. I think the only thing I had trouble with was that if her character was injured in such a way she would have passed away in reality. The elderly that age can hardly take a fall less anything that savere. I do think pazuzu in the originals was much stronger but this demon this time was efficient. It wasn't playing much games. It was like *I'm taking these girls souls right now* The stakes were definitely higher. It was interesting to actually see the demons drag Katherine to hell. That's imagery you don't quite get in the originals. Was the movie over all perfect ??? No. Did it hold up pretty well and make Plenty of references to the original ?? Yes I'll agree adequately enough. I would watch it again. It's not at all a replacement for the original and I don't think that's what David Gordon wanted to do. He respected the originals while creating an incorporation that connected the universe. Did you need Regan and McNeil in the movie for the story to hold. No And that's the best thing about it. This movie wouldn't be affected if they were there or not. It could stand on its own two feet if it had to. Over all It's great to know that the returning actors were available. it was certainly a treat just seeing both Linda and Ellan again.

I personally think with the next film called “deceiver” i feel like Katherine is not dead and she comes back hints deceiving us to thinking she is dead. Also, if you noticed the dad tossed the water that had some of the evil spirits in it down the sewer i think that’s going to come back into play somehow.

How would you feel about this as the premise for the third film if made? The heroes get unexpected help from the most unlikely ally of all: Pazuzu. In its culture Pazuzu goes both ways and can be used against Lamashtu so..............

You know, I don't think thats gonna happen... But if it did, it would be theologically sound in a way. (sorry, I study demonology lol)... But the Demon Pazuzu...in some ancient religions, is thought to be an evil spirit who is called on to help fight against other evil spirits... The original Exorcist actually touches on that although briefly in the Iraq sequence... theres a piece of subtitled dialogue, where Merrin is looking at the Pazuzu head he had dug up at the archeological site, and the man looks at the head Merrin is holding and says to him "Evil against Evil"...

I think what could have made this better or at least giving a reason for Regan's mother being in the movie; would be having Regan being a mother, and having the demon go after Regan's daughter or maybe even her son, and that way it gets 2 legacy characters in the movie, and gives fans of the original something interesting.

Completely agree about the lack of focus on Katherine's side of the possession...it seemed like her family went through more of the horror I would expect in an exorcist movie. If was Burstyn, I wouldn't want to do another Exorcist either with what William Friedkin put her through in the original.

Bro, don't kid yourself. The next two movies are going to be even worse. This man has no idea what he's doing with these legacy characters, is a disgrace to classics he touches, and if they couldn't even land the first one, what in God's name makes ANYONE think they're gonna pull a good movie out of their ass for these next two? I'm going to assume the next movie will reveal the girl that got dragged to hells family will be trying to find ways to get their daughter back, which leads them to become the villains, and ariund the midway point it's revealed the the surviving girl is actually still possessed. The movie will then end 1 oc 3 ways. The possessed girl will be dragged to hell. The possessed girl will be saved from the demons grasp. The girls will swap places(probably the goal of the villainous family). Regardless of the outcome the third movie will probably be about mass possessions happening as a result of the previous movie, and it'll be revealed that the demon has been setting this up since the original Exorcist movie. *This is all coming from someone that's never finished the original Exorcist, and hasn't seen this movie, so I'm purely basing this off of my limited knowledge and the reviews I've seen*

I have to disagree with you. FOX season 1 of The Exorcist did bring back Regan and Chris to showdown with Pazuzu, (who by the way, isn't the demon in this film), and it was brilliant. You didn't find out until mid season it was Regans daughter being possessed and it was just brilliant.

I personally enjoyed this movie quite a bit. I think in todays age, people go to movies to look for things to complain about as opposed to just trying to enjoy the movie itself. I do think this would be a good stand alone movie, and not necessarily an Exorcist franchise addition. But if they are planning three of these, then maybe there’s something special they’re planning to build up to which I’m personally interested in seeing.

When people come out and say that the original film wasn't anything special and blah blah blah. Well, that's the pinnacle of demon possession films and is one of the greatest films ever made, so if that's not their cup of tea I don't see why they would even go see this film.

Literally the first thing I said to my friend when the credits started rolling on this movie when I saw it yesterday was “they should’ve saved Linda Blair for the sequel” because I agree with all of your points. I loved the first half, than it had to become a sequel to the original and got dumb. Also something I noticed is there’s only one mention of Father Karras and Father Merrin… and it was turned into a goddamn joke. For what the movie was, I didn’t hate it. But it could’ve been WAY BETTER. I’m hoping that they’ll learn from their mistakes on this one for Deceiver and whatever the 3rd one will be called. I’m not one of the people who hate this movie but I completely understand why people were disappointed by it and even just outright hating it.

As far as exorcist movies go I really liked this movie due to double exorcism and multiple religions idea but I agreed with the points made against it. I don't like it when a horror movie has a legacy character return only to kill them off quickly or in this case maim them and leave them sidelined in the hospital for the rest of the movie. Her being involved didn't really add to the plot. They couldve just mentioned her by having the guy read her book and and watch videos of her interviews and that couldve been it concerning making connections to the original movies.

I was so consumed by the trailer and the idea of this being an actual Exocist sequel that I missed some of the fails that you pointed out. I definitely agree with the lack of back story on the religious and family and the cutting of the VERY scene that excited me in the first place!

During the finale the 1 thing I was waiting for that would have made it a little bit more heart-felt would have been the Main dad asking for his wife to help protect their daughter. Showing that its not just belief in god but belief in others to help, from the living or dead. It would match with their "it takes people" motto because it would add another person to help. Full honesty tho im glad both girls didnt make it out in the end, mainly because movies typically dont let kids die at the end of the movie, so nice subversion.

David Gordon Green in a recent interview said he might not make the other movies, so they might get someone more competent in the horror genre to make them. He is not a bad director, his cinematography is really good for example, but horror is just not his thing.

Exactly, how in the hell he went from an interesting indie director to a talentless horror hack? He made some good drama comedy movies like Snow Angels, Joe, Pineapple Express, Stronger, Prince Avalanche then somehow he ends up making shit like this

Probably had the worst theater experience of my life watching this. Not only was the film atrocious, but there was a whole row of stoned guys talking behind me the whole movie, a group of girls were screaming obnoxiously at the terrible excuses of jumpscares, and like half the theater was on their phones. Man bring me back to how moviegoing used to be.

I'd rather these legacy sequel trilogies just make 2 good movies and consider the original the 1st movie. Still a trilogy but imo, if Blumhouse ended with Halloween Kills and ending Myers, it would've been way more entertaining to watch Halloween, H2018 and Halloween Kills. I feel like this new trilogy will suffer the same fate where it just is diminishing returns.

Honestly happy I decided to wait for the reviews for this movie. For me, Exorcist and Exorcist 3 are the only good movies in the series, so I was hesitant about this newest entry. Thank you for saving me $20 on a movie ticket

Chris really showed up for 5 mins got stabbed in the eyes pretty disrespectful to her character. When they had Katherine dragged to hell I was pretty shocked cause I thought they were gonna save them both but then they try to make the ending seem like all is well now. Easily the best part of the movie was the exorcism the 2 girls when possessed were great especially the one with the cross on her head. Seeing Regan was nice but literally this movie didn’t need them whatsoever. I can see why this movie is called exorcist believer since the father didn’t believe in any of this but he was made into one by the end of the movie. Maybe exorcist deceiver will have a possessed character convince one of the characters to do something for them promising them something in return but then they get lied to.

It’s a stereotype in movies like these where religious parents think they are being punished. Katherine ain’t coming back she’s long gone by now we know that no argument.

How u feel about what they did to the returning character is how the star wars fans felt about those returning characters. Why bring back beloved or important characters just to kill or besmerch them. I feel your pain brother

The original is in my top 5 of all time. My expectations were low, but really wanted to like this new one. Saw it opening Thursday, damn I was disappointed. Hopefully DGG will learn and make a solid sequel and a kick ass finale.

I don't really think there's much of an audience for The Exorcist anymore. I mean if you've seen the original Exorcist, you've seen pretty much every demonic possession movie of the past half century. It's very formulaic and I just think the tank is out of gas on The Exorcist and the whole demonic possession subgenre. People just don't care anymore. I sure don't anyway.

@@SmileyySmiley They really were. The story I think still has some steam left in it is The Vatican Tapes. Unfortunately that movie tanked hard at the box office, so a sequel is never gonna happen. Goddamn shame too. I honestly think people didn't go see that movie because they thought it was just another possession movie. That's not the case at all. You ever see it?

Like you said, I didn’t go into this movie with high or much expectations. Even still I was somehow let down by this movie! The jump scares were lackluster and very slow to build. Angela’s dad lacked so much emotion, like when the lights kept flickering, when his daughter appeared out of nowhere in the bathroom, even when his front door was AJAR!! I loved how they made the various religious backgrounds come together to perform the exorcism, but their scenes were disorganized and chaotic to me. Angela wanted to contact her mom, who was Katherine trying to contact?

I don't know I personally enjoyed the movie. I am a fan of the original and whilst I do find it strange to introduce a legacy character just to kill her I thought the rest of the writing was well done. I think one of the reasons I may have enjoyed it more is I didn't really care about this movie before I went to theatres I didn't watch the trailers and that made everything feel kinda crazy when I didnt know what to expect, such as the one lives one dies scene or the body and the blood scene, and while i do see many flaws I also am excited for deceiver.

I really like this movie. It builds tension well and has good pacing. All performances are great and some good nods to the original. You could argue that maybe the 3rd act was a bit rushed but my hope would be the People who joined at the end get fully fleshed put in the next movies. Overall i enjoyed this film and don't understand all the hate around it

All the hate is because the movie was not paced well, and it definitely didn't have good tension. I mean like it was said, 1 child was pretty much completely ignored, and secondly the girls go from acting a little stranger to fully on possession. Like with movies like this you have to flesh that out a bit, but hey if you enjoyed it that's your opinion.

I rarely watch one of your spoiler videos without watching the movie first. But your spoiler free review, plus two of my friends seeing it today and only saying it's bad without giving details, I had to watch this. My two friends love the original and all the sequels and prequels, so them hating this one has me intrigued. But yeah, I have no interest in watching this now, or the sequels if they do make them.

The ending was so moronic as they present the outcome as a "Happy Ending" when one of the girls is dragged to Hell and her family's grief is completely ignored and dismissed as a "speed bump". If they were going to do that it would make more thematic sense for Angela to be the one dragged to Hell, as she is the main focus of the two girls. The father's secret of him actually choosing his wife over his daughter is a major conflict that the Demon uses against him, so it would make more sense for during that final decision Victor would choose to save Angela, only for it to be the 'Trick" and Angela is the one that the Demon takes. That is the kind of sick and twisted thing a Demon would do to someone, and it makes sense as the Father's original decision to choose his wife over Angela would be something that a Demon would look to exploit and further punish the Father over. As Katherine is barely a character in the movie, so her fate is obvious since the second trailer, and it would have been more shocking to pull a bait and switch and have the Angela character be the one who the Demons trick them into sacrificing. Then you could have Victor trying to atone for condemning Angela for a second time and have the sequels focus on him trying to save his daughter's soul.

You stake the eyes to kill a witch. And its certain witches i think that marry fallen angels. Like in hereditary the grandmother was one of these types. Maybe thats what they are saying that she was a witch all along she was an actress Hollywood 🤷🏽‍♀️. Could be why Reagan doesn’t mess with her. I think the idea about going in depth with the families would have been dope too. Im going to wait till this streams but I still excited about this film.

I concur with you that the film definitely had some good plot threads to expand upon but it all feel flat. IMO, after both girls returned, I feel only 1 of them should have become possessed, thus allowing proper character development, then as a shocker have the film end with the demon then taking possession of the other girl (lead-in for the next film). Also, I feel they shouldn't have bothered to bring back Chris McNeal, seeing as how she really adding nothing to the plot whatsoever. If her scenes were edited out, it wouldn't change anything about the film.

Like i said before Exorcist tv series handled the legacy characters with respect and gave them proper send off if show was limit series felt a satisfying conclusion to franchise. I dont want to spoil the twist and reveal why possession happened in first film. If anyone was disappointed with Believer i highly recommend you check out the Exorcist show its worth the watch and makes you wish movie picked up where show ended kept story going. I have reaction you did Chris i agree that wish we could have seen more of Katherine and her family build up the relationship with both families and it would have been gut wreching both families deciding who decides lives or dies also if they wanted to go route one of the parents offers to take childs place to die like Angela father could have offered himself to die sacrificing himself for his daughter and doesn't allow Katherine family to make that choice instead taking Katherine place since he doesn't want them to go through that experience he did with his wife and daughter or idk something to make Believer more impactful. Believer while it was nice to see Linda Blair and Ellen Burstyn together again on screen after fifty years but it didnt feel earned or an emotional to see them together after all these years once again series did it better it showed tension between legacy characters and you felt the moment was earned.

At this point there has to be another follow up sequel to this movie because there were just too many time gaps between the actual ritual, the disappearance, and the Infestation - Oppression - Possession sequence. It felt like it happened all at once without any build up but one scene of both girls showing signs of possession, I get they obviously wasn’t going for a slow burn horror here but it was waay to simple to enjoy. I really hope this isn’t the way the story ends ..
