Expanding the Hornby Junior Set

A few extras to the collection and some ideas to move forward with this project. Looking for ways to improve the realism, increase the performance and construct a layout that would suit the set.

What a great idea. I bought the blue Paddington set made in Vietnam and a separate Express with extra track. I removed the motor from the Paddington train and swapped over the bodyshell from the Express. I found an adhesive printed coach set on eBay which I am changing the carriages, however the couplings aren't compatible with the other sets so a bodge was needed.

The "Diodes" are actually resistors!! You could try a folded loop figure of eight layout, if the loco can cope with the gradient and towing 4 other carriages.

I think you might be able to use the forthcoming R7338 Maglight with your train.

Hi Allen, thanks for the heads-up, it's a great idea. In fact, I began work some time ago to scratch build a similar lighting system. I have all the parts including reed switches and magnets. I'll probably buy one and then make a few of my own. Thanks again and all the best....Tom

Fantastic video! As a fellow Hornby Junior owner and operator, I can’t wait to see how you continue! I also found a similar set on another site (not the Jouef one!) and I still have to make the comparison video!

Thanks Again, Ed. Right now I'm working on making the car connections a little more prototypical, that will be in the next video. I've also got some bits for the layout. Just waiting on some resisters so I can build the LED light consoles for each end. Looking forward to your comparison video. All the best...Tom

fabulous Tom..its actually quite well made isn;t it?!...the more you see the more it looks great value..this would be of great interest at an exhibition!....cheers dave

Hi Dave...Cheers mate. Yes, it's quite a well made model, all in all. Plenty of scope for upgrades ;) You'll be amazed to find out with this set actually comes from. More about that soon. All the best :)

Haha...Yes! I'm attending another meeting next week, maybe I'll see you there ;) It doesn't end there, though...Just before I put myself on an Ebay ban, my itchy fingers got the better of me. More about that in the next 2 videos. Yes, the extra cars make it look slightly less like a toy. At the moment I'm doing some more work on the realism.
