Wow @heysang thank you so much for your generousity and support to us! The kindness of the Korean people is the reason I've decided to spend the rest of my life here, and I'm so lucky to have found such a beautiful and amazing place. Yujin and I will use your donation as motivation to work hard and keep creating videos, and we'll add your name to the end of the videos as a little way of saying thanks. Hope you are healthy and happy, and have an amazing week!

It's so sad seeing some of these old structures and neighborhoods being replaced with bland, copy & paste apartment high rises. I feel like some of Korea's character, culture and history will be forgotten once they're gone, especially along with the old folks who used to work and reside in them. That being said, it was pretty cool to tag along and listen in to your conversations with them. BTW, that abandoned market would make a good backdrop for a horror movie or a Silent Hill type of video game 😆 Thanks for another great video!
@lostthenfound
@lostthenfound 2 ай бұрын
It's definitely unfortunate to see @ICDeadPeeps. Hoping that it doesn't all go away, as they are great places to visit just to feel a sense of where Korea came from and also the community vibe that they bring. Also agree with you that the market would be a great backdrop for a horror game! Thanks a lot for watching!

Thank you so much @janemaskell613! Really appreciate the kind words! A lot of people from my generation and younger have become to rely a lot on technology, and forgot how to socialize with each other, so we have a lot to learn from the older generation for sure! Really fortunate to spend time with the elderly whenever possible. Hope you are healthy and happy!

It's incredibly poignant that you began this video with a Hanji shop, especially given the title's focus on Saemaeul. During my year in Andong, I was deeply struck by this contrast. Visiting a Hanji factory, I learned about Korea's painful journey of development. Hanji and Saemaeul symbolize two opposing visions for Korea: one preserving tradition, the other embracing modernity. The world has yet to fully grasp this painful history, but it will one day. The older generations of Koreans have stories that are nothing short of extraordinary. I once met a woman who witnessed North Koreans crossing the Han River at the onset of the Korean War. She was always eager to share her experiences and was a truly lovely soul. After her husband passed, her health declined, and I saw her less often. Then one day, she visited our group, struggling to walk. She handed me an envelope with money inside, asking me to take everyone out to lunch without her. I never saw her again. She knew it would be her final farewell, and so did I. All I could do was feel fortunate to have experienced her grace. Her kindness and resilience left an indelible mark on me. Every day, the stories of remarkable people in Korea are coming to an end. We can only be grateful for the chance to listen and appreciate everything they've endured to create the comfortable life we enjoy today.

Agree with you here Elias. Also wow that is a really touching experience you had with that woman, and as someone who lives here also not that surprising (which is amazing to be able to say). A lot of the elderly here have hearts of gold and are willing to give anything they can to help others. You met an incredible human-being, and I'm sure you think about her frequently and she impacted your life in many ways. Just reading this is impactful to myself as well. It's pretty amazing how far kindness and love can go in that sense. Totally agree that we need to be very thankful and grateful for what they sacrificed to give everyone such an amazing and peaceful place to live.

@@lostthenfound She was truly an angel who blessed my life, sharing her wisdom and concerns about the development of Korea. She sensed her time was nearing an end, but her words linger. There's a specific charm to Korea, especially in the older stories still ripple through the likes of us younger folk and also from the winding streets of places like Naksan Iwha Village or downtown Andong. I believe many captivating K-Drama narratives are influenced by Korea's era before and during rapid economic development. The older culture exuded warmth and interpersonal connection, which is so beautifully reflected in these stories. As a demographer, I have a theory that the younger generations in Korea may face shorter lifespans than their grandparents. This could be due to rising social isolation, extreme polarization between genders, and a shift away from a healthy, whole foods-based diet. I'm in contact with a professor from Seoul National University who is an expert in Korean demography, and the unfolding story is unique globally. Korea's demographic transition is occurring faster than any other in history, making it a fascinating case study.

So glad I found this channel recently. Enjoying going through the whole catalog. Visited Deungchon-dong today to try 'the burger place with no sign'. Truly one of the best meals I've had in a long time, looked identical to when you visited, I think the owner was even wearing the same outfit! Unfortunately the first place you visited in that video I was unable to find on naver, might've closed down :(. Regardless, can't wait to go back for more simple burgers. You truly don't find places like that often anymore!

I wish they at least would have some variety in the apartment buildings being built rather than cookie cutter buildings. Its also sad to see those markets are in a state of disrepair but I hope whatever is going to replace it at least attempts to capture the charm areas like that had. From the picture you showed of what was planned to be built, I don't think so. 😥
@lostthenfound
@lostthenfound 2 ай бұрын
Totally agree with you there @blackbelt2000. I think a lot of apartments in Korea are being built to be as profitable as possible right now, so they don't prioritize variety too much. Hope that changes someday!

Have you thought about doing a video showing the hotels, even just the frontage and foyers, locations etc. We are looking on Agoda and the pictures are small, we have Lotte hotel Seoul and Stanford, (which I think is nearby), as choices don’t really understand if the location is good. Have seen your recommendations however they were often hostels, older folks and families probably want something with a bit more comfort. Great channel BTW
@lostthenfound
@lostthenfound 2 ай бұрын
@craigtrigg834 thanks for watching! The Stanford Hotel in Seoul is a bit out of the way, but the Lotte Hotel Seoul is in the perfect location to get around everywhere (it's in central Seoul), and it's a very nice hotel, so if it's within your budget then it's perfect in my opinion!
