It's no surprise that ELRS LoRa spanked Tracer's FLRC in an equal-mW test. Any other outcome would mean a flaw in the test. Even more impressive is that ELRS did it on a ceramic antenna, which is estimated to be about 6 dB less sensitive (equals 1/2 the range) than a wire antenna.

It really makes it a no brainer for any BNF micro to use something like this. I recently put an xm+ on the nanohawk x, because I really don't trust flying d8 spi on anything faster than a whoop. Nanohawk has pads brokewn out for r1, t1 and t2, r2. The smart audio is on uart 2, and sbus uart 1. I am assuming the inversion for the frsky sbus pad wouldn't stop me installing ELRS or Crossfire on t1, r1. I really don't want to take it apart again..it's a nightmare to get it back together :D

Agreed. I still don't understand why everyone keeps doing these tests other than clickbait (and I mean no disrespect to Gal; he's an awesome dude). Everyone here in the comments is just here to s**t on TBS and not really giving credit where credit is due. Ehhhhrrrmmm.... CRSF. Also like you've said in some of your videos... What's going to happen if they flip the LORA switch on Tracer, or put a LORA firmware out? Tracer is still new. I'm personally team TBS. I enjoy their ecosystem. It's almost apple-esq if you will. Everything talks to each other if your using cloud. Nice being able to do just about anything I need from my Fusion in my goggles. Plain and simple though competition makes for advancement and innovation. We're in some pretty awesome times with FPV.

@@linuxbarista The reason it is blowing up is because of the open source nature of ELRS. Everyone loves an underdog and if anything this is just going to force TBS to release the good sauce. We all know Trappy is a business genius and he holds back his own products so he can release awesome updates (like LORA). I am not saying that is a bad thing by the way, a guy has to make his $$ :D

Nice test, I just finish switching 25 of my 5"+ drones to TBS and most of them don't have GPS and TBS has never fail me a mile out so i'm good with what I have. Thanks for the great vid.

Thanks man! TBS CRSF is very reliable and I am using CRSF on most of my quads. ELRS is very promising as well and so far I am very impressed with it.

This is crazy considering there is 2 antennas in the best configuration on tracer, and only 1 ceramic antenna on elrs. Do you remember on which packet rate elrs was ? I'm glad to make the switch, thank you for the test.

@@KremerFPV Indeed, wings too. I have 5x 868mhz receivers already, all of my radios have modules to support it. The 2,4ghz is almost as good as the 868mhz is in the open air but UHF cuts through the red brick like butter 😁

But according to the test of the FATSHARK power meter, the actual power of betafpv elrs25mw is 56mw, 100mw has 160mw, while TBS only has 26mw and 98mw, can this explain the results of this test? 翻译用户还搜索了

So ELRS at 500Hz went another ~15-20% further then tracer at 250Hz. What happened on the way back where they both dropped?

Tracer failsafed at 1.72km, ELRS did at 4.00km, that's over 125% further than Tracer!

Another great showing for ELRS! One question though- both receiver antennas were horizontal but only one antenna had it’s nulls pointed towards the Tx while the other was oriented more optimally. Which was which? I would have liked to see the antennas on opposite sides of that plastic box from each other instead of at 90 degrees from each other so that neither antennas had their nulls pointed at the Tx.

Tracer nano has 2 antennas... It wasn't 2 receivers in the same box, ELRS receiver is shown later (around 0:10) sticking out the box with its tiny ceramic antenna.

Is it normal that ELRS's RSSI is always 10 points above Tracer's RSSI ? Same power and same frequency it should be at close numbers right? (same thing for dBm) Does the ELRS rx is more sensitive than the Tracer ? Are TX outputs really at 25mw? i can't find output measures of the TXs on youtube :/

@@changeagent228 the magnitude is insane, -10dBm, we are talking about 6 times more sensitive and more (-3dBm is dividing by 2 the received power) , it's more sensitivity difference than between ev800d and a Rapidfire if i compare with our analog video systems

@@changeagent228 It's normal for ELRS LQ to drop off rapidly as RSSI approaches the noise floor or the receiver sensitivity limit. ELRS devs recommend watching both RSSI dBm and LQ together to anticipate when failsafe is imminent.

ELRS also seems to be at 500hz ultra low latency mode indicated by the 7xx LQ right? Why not test at the same packet rate?

Not really.. Tracer isn't made for range in the first place so the comparisons are flawed from the get go. It is made for low latency racing and freestyle.

2.4 will go down to 10mW, but the betaflight 900 only goes down to 100mW.

The rx was just connected to an FC and was carried over the DJI Mavic Air 2. When trying to reconnect it showed a Runaway error.

Holy S***! That really makes me want to do some blasphemy to my Mambo. I usually use Crossfire with my Mambo and Tango2 (ofc). Maybe I'll keep Tracer RX:s in box just put ELRS 2G4 RX:s in my quads that don't need Crossfire. What a great time to our hobby. 10-15USD RX:s beat 30-40RX:S and 15-50 USD TX:s beat 60-100USD TX:s. And it's OPEN SOURCE!

@@aerialcombat Yes but... Have been burned by BetaFPV stuff in past and there are already issues with the capacitor they left off their module. Namimno uses a different processor setup, not not gonna reach ultimate speeds and updates different. HGLRC left wifi antenna off their boards and other issues. Leaving Happy model, maybe the worst reputation in FPV but still the most avaiiable ELRS stuff out there. Heard rumer of IFlight ELRS comming but will if and when?

Yep. For a freestyle build it will be good of course and you can get much farther if you will increase the output power (Or flash it with the new LORA firmware that TBS are about to introduce).

It would be nice to compare them with similiar antenna setup tracer antena appears to be around 2db on tx and rx 2db, but elrs have got tx with 5,6dbi and on tx ceramic 3,7dbi, when plugging this info in range calculator to get on tracer 1,7km sensitivity would be -87, so when changing antenas on tracer to comparable to elrs it should get around 3,3km. It is only theoretical consideration, elrs can be handicapted by non ideal position of antennas, it seems to be hard to judge which is better and by how much, without more similiar antennas. I still expect elrs to win but I would like to see it in more fair comparison

The ceramic antenna should be less sensitive than a wire antenna, regardless of its gain pattern. Informal tests estimate that it is about 6 dB worse than a dipole wire antenna.

Further driving home the point that TBS should be avoided, 915mhz crossfire gets stomped on by cell towers greatly impacting it's usable range in the real world, in addition the lower frequency tends to get killed by the ground or fresnel zone interference. 2.4ghz is really a more optimal quadcopter control frequency, a proper LoRa protocol 2.4ghz rx will easily outfly any video system. Lastly, tracer is junk, the hardware is good, however they have it artificially limited to not compete with crossfire, don't give you money to a shady bullshit company.
