This is the Extended unedited version of the walk from the weekend. It's got a lot more walking across the fields and yelling at sheep. Just in case you wanted to see the full distance of the walk.
Last week I visited the grand old house of Boscobel house. An estate in the midlands of the UK that once hid King Charles II as he fled palimentary forces during the civil war. As well as the actual building there are two other related sites in the area.
The first is the The Royal Oak, where the King hid in the branches to avoid enemy soldier. Although to be fair the tree that is currently on the site isn't the same oak but a descendent from that tree.The other site is White Ladies Priory. The ruin of an abbey which also hid the King during his escape to France.
While the house is the main attraction in the area, if the weather is good it's worth going to the other two sites. The Oak is a quick walk just behind the house and out of the garden. Where the abbey is about a 20 minute walk across some fields (and a little bit of road).
To get to the Oak you have to get a ticket to the house. But this also gives you access to the other facilities (Cafe, shop and toilets) should you need them. White Ladies priory is free to enter although there isn't much of a car park there. Both the Oak and Priory are on some pretty rough terrain and may not be suitable for people who are mobility impaired.
