Today I’m travelling to The Gambia. I have a long and challenging journey ahead of me as I drive through Senegal in order to reach our destination: Serekunda in The Gambia. Join me as I experience West African border crossings, travel through extreme terrain and take The Gambia's notorious ferry. It's going to be a bumpy ride...

You will be very pleased to know that my next video (on Senegal) will be longer in length. It's not finished yet but there's a lot of content to pack in so it will be at least 20 mins I would expect. This video you have just watched here covers a day where there was a lot of driving so I didn't manage to film enough to fill up a longer video. I hope you will enjoy the next video... and with that I best get working on it 😅

@@awenaturale yup! They haggled my driver literally every 10-20 mins. Every police check point wanted some type of tip. When I finally approached the ferry, they wanted some compensation too. My driver handled everything. I wasn’t coming off any money. The ferry it’s self was actually easy and simple.

Why weren’t you allowed to film at the border? Did you have to pay the bribe?
@EllaMcKendrick
@EllaMcKendrick Жыл бұрын
Filming at borders can be risky in causing upset. I didn't want to attract unwanted attention that way. We didn't pay a bribe but it's worth noting we were with a guide who had a good relationship with the border officials. Had we just been there on our own, it may have been different

@@Charcmode remember reading somewhere, that it stems from the fact that former UK colonists used to pay their employees a wage of 2 shillings (UK currency pre-decimilisation). Coloquial (slang) speak for a shilling was a bob so from there white people were called 2 bobs hence toubab. But now the meaning is "white people".

@@EllaMcKendrick No, it is not wrong. But sometimes it is not so nice, if peoples know your name, but still call you "toubab" I dont call all gambians, when I see them "gambian".
