I'm a bit surprised such a vast area is gated/fenced. Its like a giant safari park.

Did you have just the one day in the crater? Doesnt look like you saw very much. I’m asking because I am planning a trip myself. However, if that was one day-I’ll admit-I’d have been disappointed.
@EllaMcKendrickКүн бұрын
Yes, I just spent 1 day in the crater. The vehicle entry fees are quite high ($295 on top of your $70 entry fees per person) so most people tend to only spend 1 day here. You'd have been disappointed with seeing elephants, lions, buffalos, zebras, hyenas, warthogs, hippos, wildebeest, 2 species of gazelle, serval cats, countless birds, golden wolves and waterbuck (and perhaps more I'm forgetting as this was over a year ago now) in 1 day? I've been on a lot of safaris across Africa and I'd consider this a good day on safari. You may be disappointed in many safari destinations, especially considering that wildlife is unpredictable and on some safaris you may not see much at all. For example, on one day in the Serengeti I saw 3 leopards, a cheetah, dozens of lions and much more. Then on another day I didn't see much at all beyond elephants.

why not fly in in 1 hr? we also do so and dont loose a day on the road.
@EllaMcKendrickКүн бұрын
You can certainly fly, yes! But at $300 per person each way, it isn't within everyone's budget range. I personally like to drive as I enjoy admiring the scenery 😁

Hi Ella My husband and I are travelling to nthe Serengeti in Tanzania, and then onto the Masa Mara in August for the migration. What type of mount were you using for your camera? I could see the body mounted to a bar on the truck in several of the video shots. Will that fit on most Safari trucks?
@EllaMcKendrickКүн бұрын
How exciting! You can view a list of all my gear including the mounts (there are a few parts to them) here: ellamckendrick.com/my-gear/ The mounts fit on most safari trucks, yes. I've put them on around 6 different vehicles at this point.

Hey Ella, I hope you're doing well. I was watching the video and noticed some really cool aerial shots. I couldn't help but wonder, are drones allowed in the reserve?
@EllaMcKendrickКүн бұрын
Hey, thanks for watching! It's very expensive to purchase a permit to fly in the reserve. In fact bringing a drone into Kenya is a very expensive process as they are strict about 'importing' them. There are places where you can hire a drone in Kenya instead. These shots were actually filmed in a different part of Kenya and not within the reserve.

Probably if you would have asked a women opinion they would have said that they were agreed with it, but why ? For the social pressure, for achieving a ''status'', beacuse since you are born they said that you have to do it, a woman that would decide to not get a FGM how would be treated in the community ? She couldn't have baby, she couldn't have an husband and she wouldn'd be accepted by the rest of the elder women. What if we take this woman and we put her in a community where you don't need to get a mutilation to achieve the status of being a Woman and being accepted by other ? Would she still be happy about doing it ? Sometimes traditions are Social Pressure. My opinion.

@EllaMcKendrickКүн бұрын
Thanks for watching! It's not advisable to go out of the car in the middle of the Serengeti - there are instead designated lunch and toilet spots where you can walk around. You can get quotes and book your safari here: safarisbyella.com/quote/
