VENICE BOARDWALK, October 23, 2023 - A dramatic scene unfolded on the Venice Beach Boardwalk earlier today. While dining on a restaurant patio, a local man spotted a passerby shouting, "Bike for sale for $60" as he rode a bicycle that looked all too familiar to the diner. The bicycle was, in fact, the same one that had been stolen from his daughter in Venice just nights ago.
Without hesitation, the father confronted the cyclist, verifying the bike's identity by unlocking its combination lock. The cyclist countered, asserting he'd bought the bike at a garage sale over the weekend. A dispute ensued between the two, drawing the attention of a Venice Safe Team ambassador who tried to de-escalate the situation and promptly called the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).
Before LAPD officers could arrive, the suspected thief fled, leaving the bike behind. The officers took a statement from the father upon their arrival and then left in pursuit of the suspect. In a heartwarming twist, the father contacted his daughter, sharing the good news and asking her to retrieve her recovered bicycle.

Especially in larger cities, cops only respond in a timely fashion if you are a big business or wealthy individual. That's why many smaller crimes go unreported, no one wants to sit and wait 8-12 hours for an officer to eventually show up and take a report. Because that's usually as far as it goes, they're not going to send in the detectives and forensic team because someone smashed your window or took a package off your porch.

I had the same thing happen to me. It was a year after my bike was stolen, I saw it being pushed down the boardwalk by 2 guys. I was riding my newer bike with a buddy and told him to hold my bike and I went and grabbed the bars and wouldn't let go. We pushed and pulled our way to the Lifeguard tower by the Roller Coaster at Mission Beach. I told a lifeguard the situation and he called the cops. I had bought it new and had the receipt with serial number at home but I had reported it stolen by serial number right after it was taken. The cops verified this and asked the guy where he got it. He said he bought it from a friend but couldn't remember his name. The cops told me it would be too hard to prove who stole the bike and told the guy if he wanted to press the issue they would arrest him. He decided to walk away. I had to ride home holding the 2nd bike next to me like the bums do when they steal bikes. Ha. It took me a year to find it and was probably a very lucky event to come across it, but I looked at every bike after the loss and one day, there it was.

@@richardelliott8352 There is a LA news reporter that let her bike get stolen. They put a couple of trackers on it. The first time time it got stolen, a man in the subway had it. He was angry when they asked for it back. He said "I'm an addict! I have to get high!" As if it was everyone's responsibility to facilitate this. He was a big scary dude. The next time it was stolen similar to the they one in the video. The news crew found a middle aged man and woman loading it along with dozens more in the back of a van. This was a very good video, the police should see this video for what it really is. If it was not the guys bike he would not know the combination to the lock on it which he certainly did when he finally opened it up! A crime was stopped, the rightful owner did not back down, and it was proved the bike did belong to him and his daughter. This is why it is very important to know how to hold your ground no matter what situation you're in. If you're in the right then stay in the right.

Sadly, writing something on a tire would normally wash away. Instead have something unique etched into a part of the frame small enough to not be noticed but big enough to read if you know where it's at. Even if they try to repaint it, they'd have to spot the etching and scratch it off but nine times out of ten they are just trying to flip it as fast as possible for a quick buck and won't try to repaint it as that would take a full day of waiting to flip.

I think this goes to show how much better quality of life is in Venice or really anywhere in Cali for that matter. People are way more open and chill in Cali because of the nice weather and scenery all the time whereas in NYC, especially when it gets cold, nobody will speak to or want to have anything to do with you.

The dude who had the bike probably didn't actually steal it like he said, but it was still stolen property. That's why you have to be real careful buying items from individuals giving you a great deal on something that's obviously worth way more than what you're paying. As they say, if it's too good to be true, it probably is. Than again, maybe he did steal it, who knows. Hardly. The guys sites Trump in his anti-stealing speech, yet Trump stole top-secret classified info, lied about it, said he owns it, spent almost 2 years trying to hide it. Trump tried to steal democracy with his fake-electors but look how quick that is unraveling, his attorneys plead guilty and are testifying against him. Not just their words, but with massive paper trail and receipts. .. In the Tax Fraud case in NY so few in just a few weeks we learned: Jeff McConny, controller for TrumpOrg since 1987, working under Alen Weiselberg, testified under oath he committed fraud for Trump. McConny said the fraud was not by accident, but by design, inflated value by 2300%. Don Bender a 15 year outside accountant for an accounting firm called Mazers with Trump & Trump family as his biggest client testified under oath of Trumps fraud. Allen Weisselberg testified submitted fraudulent docs and data at Trumps direct request. Week 3, Patrick Birney, Assistant Vice President of Financial Operations at The Trump Org testified he was to lie and fabricate the financial statements. Expert Doug Larson of Cushman & Wakefield, Commercial Real Estate Brokers listed by Trump Org as its appraiser for years tells court he never did the work and had no idea he was being listed. This is just the beginning. Mark Hawthorne, the Trump Hotel chief accountant, testified about a $290 MILLION DOLLAR fake number on Donald Trump's balance sheet for Trumps hotels. David McArdle of Cushman & Wakefield testified Eric Trump hounded appraiser to inflate valuation of property on golf course. They have 160+ names on their witness list. All the evidence, testimony against Trump are from people on Trump's own team, Republicans, people loyal to him. in NY fraud trial, Why doesn't Trump address Don Bender of Mazurs was witness # 1 testifying against him that he is a fraud, the fact that all the bank statements and paperwork show he's completely guilty of fraud, instead he comes out and repeats these ridiculous things accusations that do not dispute or disprove any of the hardcore facts

Waited a few weeks and bought a replacement which I rode for several years before seeing a guy riding my old bike. I told him I liked his bike and asked where he bought it. He replied "from a kid in his subdivision for %150". When I told him it was stolen from me and $150 was a suspiciously low price, he offered me $150 to compensate me. I refused because of his honesty. That kid lived across the street from me! Unfortunately, the family had moved away.
