Testament to how popular this style of machine is by the nations that manufacture modern iterations: Israel, India, China and now France thanks to Antoine. Probably one or two I missed in there. It's easy to see why production cutters love them, you can have a whole rack of dops ready and waiting with next to no adjustment between stones. Definitely a skill worth building for a well-rounded faceter.

Hey Justin. Have a question. Just getting into cutting stones. My question would be. What would good laps for Sapphire? It's all I intend on cutting. At least for now. Awesome show Good knowledge.

For cutting, any type will work fine; topper, plated, or sintered. 360/600/1200 is a normal cutting sequence for all stones on topper/plated laps. For polishing sapphire many people choose BATT, and you can’t go wrong with that lap as it’s pretty much universal. Some people like copper or the harder BA5T but if you’re just starting out a Batt is probably the best idea for all around polishing of sapphire and more. 8k/60k is a normal polishing sequence for sapphire.

What stone is it? If it’s a quartz, switch to something else for learning. Your sequence is good.

@@makumegane9628 yes that’s the problem. You can’t polish any kind of courts with diamond powder. As you’re learning, use other stones like garnet, aquamarine, tourmaline, spinel, anything but quartz. Come back to quartz later once you’ve mastered some other skills.

getting the peg into the right hole all the time doesn't seem efficient, Antoine is having to lean over and look up to verify he's getting it in the right one, someone give him some Ibuprofen 😞 !!!
