Click to subscribe: bit.ly/1Tb2yUt - It's been a busy 2 weeks and it's been rough for me on the fishkeeping side. Hence the lack of videos. I lost my favorite fish, the Green Spotted Puffer, and my tanks are getting dirty. I'm fixing that this weekend, but it quickly got out of control

It's pretty darn cool to have found another fish keeper who keeps both salt and fresh water, has a full time job and does so much in the hobby. Got a new sub outta me! :) (watching all your old videos)

Seemed like a very busy week! We get that all the time as fishkeepers and neglect are tanks.

Yeah. It has been quite busy. I've now moved on to building my kids a fort, then I have to concreted the patio...so it will be busy for a while. But I will find time to spend in the fish room. Luckily the sun goes down and the work outside has to end. :)

Thanks Scott. Of course the title was a bit overly-dramatic. lol. It's been a busy month. With the bad there was also some really cool moments with the fish.

I jost lost 2 tangs last night for no reason a all am I am also pissed. My tank is clean and parameters are perfect. both died at same time no disease and I cannot explain it. Damn. Now I only have one stripped bleny in a 60 gal tank with beautiful corals and I am confused about what to do next. Anyway great video. get a new tooth brush and scrape the algae off of rocks and get as many big snails as you can a little bag of phosgard and do water changes every week on salt water tank and you will fix phosphate problem. Thanks for all your vids.

Bummer Eric. That's frustrating. I've added 24 snails am changing my phosgard more during this time to get it back in check. I'll buy a new toothbrush. I'm guessing it's best to pull the rocks out when I do a water change and brush the algae off in the bucket?

I can't move my rockwork, so I just net out the clumps after toothbrushing. I would recommend a lawnmower blenny (and PLEASE start quarantining your new fish!! 30 days is standard) in your case, since a 40 won't accommodate tangs.

+Infamous Aquatics for sure! The new life in the guppy tanks has been very fun and rewarding. Now to get those Picasso and DaVinci clowns to pair up....

Fingers crossed on that. Though they are both clowns they are still not the same species of clown. I hope it works out for you though. I would love a pair from that batch!

what size tank are the clown fish in? Is it just a regular rectangle or a biocube? I eventually want to start a salt water tank and I'm wondering if you can keep clown fish in a regular tank. Sorry to hear about the puffer.

I had clown fish in a 20 Gallon tank with saltwater and a regular hang on back filter for a while. I did have live sand and live rock in it, but moved them to a 29G Biocube - just because I liked the look of it and found one used for a great price.

Your cichlid does not appear to have ich. It did, however, look a lot like columnaris does. If you did not dose antibiotics and he's alive, my guess would be that he did not have it, but look up the disease for the future. Green spotted puffers only live about 4 years if they are not slowly acclimated to brackish or even marine conditions.

The cichlid is doing much better with no dosing. Must have just been beat up

What?! The high of the hobby dies? Say it ain't so Deon! :) The high definitely isn't as high because of time constraints, but it is still calming to come out and work on the tanks. I don't like cleaning many things, but I really enjoy cleaning my tanks.

check out melevs reef- algea removal method/control. also it is recommended to have 1 snail per gallon for algea control. like your videos keep up the good work. I'll be posting a video about the ai prime soon I've had 2 on my 65 for a year now.

Thanks Michael! So I bought 12 snails to start when I first started the tank and the toby killed them all... I just watched Melevs Reef video about hair algae removal a couple days ago. He dosed with PhosRX and then just pulled it out. I went to give it a try and the lfs said it didn't fix the problem and that I should about getting the PH levels in check with PhosGuard... It gets confusing because everyone has their way of dealing with things and they vary greatly. Going to try frequent PhosGuard changes and see if that will help. If not I'm using PhosRX then pulling that junk out.

This is true, everyone has their own way. My protocol is switch my lighting to 15k if I'm on 12k. To 20k if I'm on 15k. 20% water change a week for 3 weeks. Vaccing the tank and sump. And I'll only feed frozen food. For some reason I think pellets cause more algea. I also physically remove as much as I can, I even break out a tooth brush I have just for my tank. Another thing I is keep a very shallow sand bed. I'll jack up the flow for a bit every couple days to remove detritus. That additive that melevs reef uses brings the phosphate to 0 and makes it easy to pull off algea. Never used it but seems legit.
