How are the predators have they been major issues without a cage or netting? We have raccoons local cats but mostly raccoons that cause problems that I have caught trying to fish in our little pond it is why I am making mine MUCH deeper at least 4 feet straight down no ledges for them to take fish from. :/ I would love to hear how your fish have been fairing as you seem to be in a location with more wildlife. FYI I live in a city so I was shocked to even see the raccoons.

We moved into a house with a fountain similar to the koi pond, where would I find my supplies for pumping out the water? We need to drain and give it a good cleaning as well and may need a new pump.

You've got yourself a right fight against nature for the rest of your life.. Inexplicable why you don't go along with nature and embrace wildlife, frogs, toads newts dragonflies, water beetles, bats, birds, and plants galore... Oxygenating plants, marginal plants.. And decay is good!!! All the saprocillic species associated with decay.. Obviously fungus, beetle larval stages.. You'll be snipping off every lily leaf as it yellows and threatens to rot. But hang on nature abhors a vacuum! You call it modern? I understood composting funerals whereby we get buried not burned in shallower graves in wicker caskets where the soil life can get munching on us.. That's modern.. Will you opt to be pickled for eternity in formaldehyde? Not just Inedible but also toxic to soil life and ground water.. That's one idea of modern.. Old fashioned 1950s modern?!

Thanks for the sub. I think 2 75 Gallon sponge filters will do well, especially if you are in the shade and do partial water changes. I think water filters are my favorite filtration

I had one for about 7 years. Community tank, 55 gallons, with dwarf gourami, neon tetra, mollies, african dwarf frog, nerite and mystery snails. he never picked on any fish. Such great personality (wife's favorite), we had some cheap plastic rock ware piece with a good sized hole in the back. He would hide there often, especially during the day, but when he was out he was super inquisitive and moved in a more purposeful way compared to other fresh water fish.

I purchased one years ago and was told he was good for community tanks but every morning I would wake up and a fish or two would be missing. I realized my leaf fish was predatory and enjoying nightly snacks. He was beautiful and I loved watching his quirky behaviors but I had to take him back. I wouldn’t mix neon tetras, endlers, or rasboras in with them unless it’s a large tank and they’re full grown.

O.O I've never seen an anemone walk before... and I lived on Guam. I'd love to have a little 30 gal with some chromis and a little puffer, starfish and some shrimp and maybe 1 black clown.. I'd love to have a crosshatch trigger but I don't have $840 to spend on one fish. (don't have that period actually) I have no intention of doing the live reef thing though, I'd want to do the planted tank/macroalgae thing just like you see in tide pools. I think if I had a bigger tank I'd have to plan a trip to San Francisco and go catch some wild fish out of the tidepools instead of spending the money on them. That was the best part about living on Guam, if you needed water, coral or fish you just went to the beach.

The exact cause of hole in the head are electric poles that emanate from the brain of the fish. These poles start at the brain and run down the electric pathways of the fish. The cause of this situation is "capacitance" Most fish tanks have lights that emanate electromagnetic energy into the water. Pumps and heaters as well, The water isn't grounded as it sits in an insulator (glass or plastic). The water becomes electrically charged and unable to release the energy. The tank becomes a "capacitor," the electrical brain activity reacting with the charged water body creates a cathode. This cathode, ionizing the flesh at the location of the magnetic poles that emanate from the nervous system. Once the flesh is opened up by this electric affect, allowing infection. The infection is secondary to the magnetic cause. Ground your fish tank to earth It only takes a few mili amps [ma] over long periods to cause this situation.

I had an Oscar that had this, and the hole formed completely through his head. He still lived for a year or so longer, but he did eventually pass a while back. Was weird to witness, but I learned a lot about what causes it.

@hooktherapy

One stock pond had regular comet goldfish that had grown to about 3-4 inches and the other had fantail goldfish which many refer to as fancy goldfish. Orandas would also fall into fancy goldfish. There are about 20 or so types of goldfish that fall in he "fancy" category.

I would not dare allow my water to look that horrible and green.... That water in that pond, should be clear.... You should be able to see all the way to the bottom... Those poor fish....
@hooktherapy
@hooktherapy Жыл бұрын
Green water doesn't mean it's unsafe for fish. How many real ponds can you see to the bottom of? It actually makes them targets for predators if they can be spotted all the way to the bottom. It is an aesthetic. I liked keeping my water clear...hence the large water change during the extreme heat of the summer. I also got large bubblers to make sure I couldn't see to the bottom in spots because the top was agitated and offered spots for the fish to hide. But, green water doesn't mean "poor fish". read up on it.
