i hadn't thought about doubling base strings, but that definitely makes sense! my knots are longer than they are wide, so for a perfect 1:1 execution of an alpha pattern, it would follow that doubling a base string could achieve that effect! i should try that some day altho I have a feeling it will be fumbly any frustrating! lol

i normally double base things as it makes the bracelet or keychain thicker and my knots and rows look better if i didnt my knots would be really small since i use dmc crochet base string size 8 and its really thin on its own

I figured it was probably something to do with knot size! I’ve tried using different sizes of crochet thread before and some of it is DEFINITELY way too thin. Good idea for the other ball of crochet I have hanging about.
