As for the longer term stay visa, under Thailand tax law, if you stay 180 days or more within a year, you are considered as a Tax Residence and hence subjected to Thailand Tax.

I love Food Mart with every fiber of my being lol. Go Wholesale (Central's rival to Makro, on Sukhumvit road) has even cheaper beef mince (235B/kilo) but I really do like Food Mart. They still provide plastic bags, for one ;)

You can still make money in the US but not much.. Electricity is so expensive looking at roughly maybe a little under $300 for a pound.. Thailand seems to have Las Vegas prices on bud..

The only international flights in and out of Hua Hin is to and from Kuala Lumpur. You should have tried Hua Hin. There are interesting night markets, two nice shopping malls and the expats are more long term and sedate. These are not the Pattaya sexpats you will see. If you get a chance to go to Langkawi then take the boat to Koh Pi Pi, I'd love to see that. It's been twenty years for me and Pi Pi has changed a lot from what I've seen.

Yea Pattaya is an area in Thailand I will avoid because of the transformers,all of the pub bars and prostitutes and the consistent non stop motor bike riding yea no thank you.This is another reason why I didn’t choose Phuket,Bangkok,koh samui,koh krabi nor koh phi phi.Not even hua hin,these areas in Thailand are perfect for getaway for a few nights but staying there long term that’s a big no no for me.These popular and commercialized hot spots have lost there cultural and traditional setting so I would not spend no more than a few days in those areas.The perfect areas in Thailand to stay long term however is in the middle of the country,far north and far south beyond krabi.

Avoid plastic wrap, food containers.

Once you hit that 180 day mark in a calendar year you then pay taxes. Same as in a lot of countries. Stay 179 days in a year and avoid it. You don't want double taxation.
