And to think, this music was "scandalous" in its day! Those racy Viennese! Kind of like Elvis Presley....:)
@legaleagle464 жыл бұрын
It wasn't so much the music as the dance itself. It was considered scandalous because it was the first dance to require a man and a woman to dance in a tight embrace. That was considered obscene by the cultural standards of the time, and it wasn't really deemed respectable until Queen Victoria popularized it by dancing it in public with Prince Albert (who was German, and was probably the one who introduced it to England, just as he introduced the Christmas tree there).
@waynej26084 жыл бұрын
Yes, and to think, this was before Strauss was turned on to reefer, by Dylan. 😎
@mrs.alexander35284 жыл бұрын
Johann Strauss, my absolute favorite composer. I appreciate the complexities of Mozart and Beethoven, but anything Strauss has done makes me want to dance, even if I haven't danced in decades. Did you know that he was the second most famous personality in his lifetime? Queen Victoria was first. He was also quite the romantic. He was married 3 times...he was widowed by the first, the second was an actress and the union ended in divorce and the last...he renounced Catholicism and moved to another country to marry Adele, 30 yrs. his junior. They were the loves of each others lives and stayed happily married until his death.

You are so right. When my middle son was in Kindergarten, he couldn't settle down when it came nap time. I told his teacher ( who just happened to be his Sunday School teacher as well ) to put on some classical music. The only thing she had was Montovani. She put that on the following day...end of problem. I always played the classics at home every day from the time I brought the first one home from the hospital. There was an hour every afternoon when we all laid down in the front room and "chilled out" when they got to be toddlers. Good for me...good for them.

Watching this video took me back to a time of class & elegance, along w/ manners and courtship, and men and women enjoyed “dressing up” for a date....only in certain classes and filters does this exist on a regular basis. TRULY MARVELOUS DANCING VISUALLY, along with the atmosphere being masterful as was the music....For a moment, I was lost to something more elegant and beautiful than I have seen in years and I forgot all of life’s troubles, including the cancer I fight. What a gift this video is❣️❣️❣️❣️ I think I shall make a Variety of Satin Designed Pillows in ALL these colors in my bedroom😘

por que no los dos - have a dance off to settle all wars. I heard that native Americans used to play Lacrosse in order to determine who won a battle instead of slaughtering each other.. whether that's true or not, it's a lovely principle (although people would probably get killed playing that death sport anyway)
@Droepram7 жыл бұрын
Because war gets you territory and cultural prosperity. Take the English speaking people as an example. War allowed them to spread themselves over entire continents, their language will never die and their musicians and authors and filmmakers and journalists have access to global markets, whereas for other cultural groups that privilege does not exist. Many centuries of warfare, including WW1 and WW2, were fought by the English to cement their dominance and ascendancy and they definitely reap the benefits this very day.
@tacosmexicanstyle78467 жыл бұрын
Droepram well, WW1 and 2 weren't exactly about Britain cementing their power - the empire was well and truly done for when the backlash from WW1 hit them in the Great Depression
