James takes a look at various fan edits, including one's for The Hobbit, Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Kill Bill, Man of Steel, and... Darkest Hour, starring Gary Oldman? Huh?
This video features the music of Ichabod Todd, a good friend of mine I hope you'll all seek out and support.

I re-cut the Lord of the Rings. Removed as much as I could of Peter Jackson's nonsense, and most importantly, I changed the sequence of the story to be like in the books. For example, no cutting between Sam/Frodo and the Aragorn/Gimli/Legolas orc hunt in the Two Towers. Even though the optical quality of my version is not up to Jackson's version, all tolkien fans I've shown it to have thought it's much better.

There’s one fan edit that’s probably one of the best and it’s the Recobbled cut of the Thief and the Cobbler. As some of you might know, Richard Williams was booted of his own movie because of the almost 3 decades it took to make, and it was crapped on by Miramax into an unfortunate Aladdin ripoff. Because of how obscure and unknown this movie is outside of diehard animation fans, you can literally find the entire thing for free on places like KZfaq, this includes the Recobbled cut fan edit which extends the film by almost 30 minutes and removes the crappy musical numbers from the Miramax cut. It also uses rough animation and storyboards to fill in the gaps. It’s really interesting.

Sincerely, the best kind of fan edits is the transformative fan edits, the ones that change everything about the history or the style of the movie (like that one that merged two movies) Two noticeable fan edits that I think of right now is: Larry Kenobi, a six episodes mini series that transforms the obi series into a comedy about clubs, drugs and… Larry (my favorite series of this year actually) And pulp empire, an edit of the empire strikes back that imagines how the movie would work out if it was edited like an Tarantino movie. These kind of wacky and different fan edits are very fun and create an completely new experience! (I Recommend the watch)

I will seek those out for sure! I saw a trailer for Larry Kenobi, I didn't know it was a full fan edit.

Fan Edits are great man! They're not always about criticizing current movies, sometimes it's just about alternative ideas!

Great video. What I like about fan edits is it provides an insight into why some movies didn't work. And while not all fan edits are perfect or even at times struggle to justify their existence, they are a fun way to discover different approaches to improve a movie.

I HIGHLY recommend M4 edit of the Hobbit! It fixes the continuity errors you noticed by clever re-purposing of some frames, as well as editing the existing ones to fit together seemlessly!

Big Fan of Fan Edits myself and i have to say i agree 100% on Finest Hour. Its brilliant. I saw a bunch of great Edits Like UGS by Wraith in which he creates a new way of watching the Shyamalan Movies Unbreakable Glass and Split. Also great is the the Godfather Opus by Wraith. Or the James Bond Series by DigiModification. It looses all the fat of the Daniel Craig Bond Movies and creates a compelling TV Show out of it.

I'll have to check those out. I have the Godfather Saga and the Godfather trilogy, which aren't so much fan edits since they are official releases, but it's still a great way to watch those films.

film fan edits served its purpose like how mixtapes are given for special people, mixed by ppl that loves the music and want to share it with others

I've only just started getting into doing Fan Edits. It starts small like adding deepfakes of Tarkin and Leia to Rogue One; next thing you know you're in the midst of taking apart Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny - tho not sure yet if that one's actually salvageable, but at least I can't make it worse!

I definitely need to check out the Hobbit edit, because I loved the book when I was younger but the film trilogy just put me off from the start because it seemed so unnecessary. A more streamlined version would be up my alley, even if it does suffer from a few continuity gaps. The shifts between the past and present battles against Pennywise in the "It" edit also seems like a nice creative touch. Superman spinning the world backwards makes more sense if you interpret what he's doing as similar to the Flash and going so fast he breaks through the time barrier, and the earth reversing is just a visual depiction of that.
@ManicExpressionvideo
@ManicExpressionvideo Жыл бұрын
For the most part I didn't miss any of the excised content from The Hobbit. The biggest issue was where those dwarves were during the attack of Smaug and how they got to the mountain after. If that issue could be fixed there would be no continuity errors at all. The It fan edit makes both of those movies better, especially chapter 2 which, on it's own, is pretty weak. That's a good explanation of what happened when Superman turned back time, though I don't really need an explanation to enjoy that scene. Like I said, I see Superman as a fairy tale character. He could spin the world backwards just cause :)
@NimbusAngelo

@@ManicExpressionvideo I think the M4 Hobbit Book edit fixes that issue. Also, the M4 edit is better than the Ed edit, and I highly recommend it!

It's way easier to point out flaws than to suggest improvements. Any dumbass can see that the pacing is too slow, but not many can figure out why and find ways to fix it. It's true in cinema, but also, in any domain... usually it's the difference between a bad and a good boss or a bad and a good teacher, one will bitch about your errors, the other will help you get better. Same goes for movie direction and same goes for movie criticism.

One thing I feel that I have to mention is the 6-minute cut of Star Wars Episode 8 that someone made, for all of the Perceived "Misandry". And by that point, it's just easier on your sanity to Not watch the film at all!
@ManicExpressionvideo
@ManicExpressionvideo Жыл бұрын
I've not seen that one before. I initially liked Episode 8, I thought it took some risks and went in interesting directions, but in the years since it has fallen in my estimation. First off I feel like Episode 9 didn't pay off what was set up in Last Jedi, which makes both those movies feel pointless. Second I have heard a lot of the criticism of the movie, and while I don't agree with all of it there is a lot where I see people's point. The sequel trilogy started off promising but ended up one of the more disappointing continuations of a franchise for me.

I have a Halloween 5 edit on my page that restores the original 'Dr. Death' opening and violence, as well as tweaking the movie to feel more cinematic and closer in quality to Halloween 4. I also have a Halloween 2018/Kills supercut called 'Halloween: Evil Never Dies' that runs 2hrs 45mins - if you'd like a link to this, let me know where I can reach you!
