The lives of these tigers from an illegal breeding farm have been shaped by abuse, fear, and suffering for years. Fangio, the 18-year-old tiger, was kept in a tiny cage, barely larger than the size of an average car. The ground was covered in mud and excrement. The stink of rotten cadavers fed to both tigers thickened the air. This awful smell reached our experienced rescue team before they could even see the enclosures up close.
It was one of the most shocking keeping conditions for tigers our team had ever seen. And they have seen a lot... 😿
There was no place in Argentina that could give those two tigers a species-appropriate home that could provide them with the care they urgently needed. Moreover, tigers are not native to Argentina. 🌎 This is why the authorities asked for our help.
With the support of you all, our amazing followers and donors, we could make this high-risk mission happen in May and managed to bring Fangio and Charly to Jordan. At the Al Ma'wa for Nature and Wildlife sanctuary, a project we run together with the Princess Alia Foundation, they are now able to recover from their ordeal in the past and start a new life! 🌟

BY THE WAY: Sustainable solutions and legal change are key to improve animal welfare in Argentina. There is much more to be done for captive big cats in Argentina, and Fangio and Charly are symbols of hope. FOUR PAWS has offered its expertise and support to the authorities to work together on improving animal welfare for big cats and other animals in Argentina and advises the implementation of measures to stop the illegal breeding and trade with wild animals!

The sweet face of the tiger at 4:38… it’s heartbreaking to see how they lived for so many years. Horrible ppl to take their freedom away just to make money in a breeding program. I’m very happy that the tigers were rescued & will now live the rest of their lives in peace & comfort! Thank you Four Paws! 🐅🧡🐅🧡🐅 (p.s. the one that’s 18 yrs old (Fangio) is the same as 88 years old in human years! A senior kitty!)

definitely, though I do not think the guy who owned them upon rescue was actually a mill breeder, but rather more a hoarder in the case of the tigers, as many hoarding situations are people who genuinely met when or even at times have mental illnesses, and were just incapable of caring for them properly, yk?

SO glad I donated to this project. They have been through so much. I hope the older one lives at least 2 or 3 more years... He's suffered 3 times longer than the other one. Poor babies 😢

Four Paws does such wonderful work and they have several sanctuaries over the world. I donate monthly to them and would encourage whatever amount to do so as well. What a shame the other animals in that horrendous place could also have been rescued.

According to the law, private keeping of exotic non-indigenous is illegal in Argentina. All big cats should live in natural reserves. It is difficult to enforce this legislation and localize the illegal keeping farms, as they are inly few signals received! However, as Argentina cannot offer any permanent place for non-native big cats and authorities have been looking for ways to stem this terrible trade, FOUR PAWS offers support to work together on sustainable long-term solutions for captive big cats in Argentina.

Why is this abuse of animals allowed to continue? More to the point, why is this work left up to charities and why are Governments around the World not supporting these Charities and their vital work? Governments should be locking up the criminals who make profit out of the misery of these beautiful magnificent creatures! These criminals are an affront to all the human species imo.

Hi, Keeping of non-native species is actually illegal in Argentina. The authorities are currently working on adjustments to animal welfare law. FOUR PAWS offers expertise, knowledge and support to the Ministry of Argentina in order to work together on improving animal welfare for big cats in Argentina.

Please support this work. I rescued small animals - cats, dogs, possums, raccoons, squirrels, for about seven years. These are great cats or bears or whatever the animal is. But, most importantly, whether people are well-intentioned or not, keeping a wild animal is not good. They require general health checks, dental checks, and any other medical help which most people may not consider. Therfore, to all the excellent and well-prepared rescue groups, Gratitude. To the always above and beyond work they do.

Happy to see that Four Paws was able to help again in Argentina. I'm curious to know why an electrical fence in the first enclosure? I'm guessing it doesn't hurt them but I've never heard this before.

Hi Sakinah, Indeed, it is not of course not meant to hurt them. Our sanctuaries and thus adaptation enclosures are all built according to international standards, and include security measures for all rescued animals and caretakers. 🐾
